A Private Rhone Paulee in London: My bottle. Beautiful acidity and autumnal notes. Double decanted but really should have remained in the decanter. Still young but in early drinking window. My second place at the lunch after ‘06 Rayas and many others agreed. 94

Starts out reduced for an hour, but this blows off, showing black pepper, blackberry, and hints of olive and garrigue. Still has plenty of fine tannic structure and moderate acidity, for the next two hours the fruit expression wins this battle. Then the last glass or two shuts back down and the reduction reappears. Not a big wine and I'll give this and the Reynard several more years.

Heater week; 3/8/2024-3/17/2024 (Chicago, IL): While I liked the 2013 Reynard more than the 2014, I liked the 2013 Chaillot more than the 2014. This is really elegant, and shows the red-fruited quality of the vintage very clearly. Of course there is the typical Allemand silky palate, and the lighter fruit makes this actually quite approachable now already.

Taken to a dinner party and slow ox’ed in bottle for a couple of hours. This is the best bottle yet of my case with a beautifully complete nose of campfire and autumnal leaves. Palate needed swirling but delivered dark fruit and roasted notes. Still young after 10 years, but slowly coming into its own. This was a pirate wine against a bunch of top Barolos including Mascarello and Roagna and ended up WOTN for some and tied for my WOTN. 94+/100

This bottle did not quite live up to the heights of the prior one but did deliver trademark husky purple fruit and autumnal finish. 93/100
