Healthy light ruby without lightening or tawniness. Dominated at first by anise scents. Lighter weight, proper Volnay. A bit grippy to start, but then the fruit actually blossomed and gave it a bit of welcome flesh. Not great, but pretty amazing for a wine from a vintage that was written off years ago.

6 Red Burgundy tasted at Primas. Had a typical barnyard nose, not as stinky as the previous bottle, with lots of acid and fruit in the mouth, sweet/sour fruit taste, long, pleasant, complex flavors that indicate great promise in 4 years. Third place.

6 Red Burgundy tasted at Primas. Had nice, pleasant fruit on the nose with lots of barnyard, followed by more of the same on the palate but lacks depth. Some thought it corked so a second bottle was opened. $43 retail, fifth place.
