  • 01024. Intense rose petal, soaring hawthorn red fruit, lychee, ripe blue fruit, earthy, quite meaty, muddy, horse piss, lots of spice, dried chili powder, citrus and tropical acidity, orange flowers, vanilla and bakery spice. So ethereal and lifted to the best of tradition, with notable hint of rough even burnt tannins of Volnay. Such density and strength and so sweet. Old school winemaking at its best. 94-95+

  • From magnum. Still youthful, with well balanced fruit and soil tones. 93+

  • 23 years old wine but still deep and beautiful red color.

The nose is fragrant, sweet, red rose with full of imagination, a hillside house in autumn, fresh air, natural scents combined. This is a Henri Jayer style.

In the mouth, very round and great balance, sweet claret of truly Burgundy wine, lovely dense, firm structure. This is very very top performance at this moment.

Aftertaste is like a warmer wing chair in front of a fireplace on the Christmas day. Very happy, may it be the most happiest moment of my drinking wine.

This is not Volnay. This is a sweetness of Romanee-Conti, the density of Jayer's wine and the most beautiful picture in my mind. Great Great Great !!!

I would like to buy 100 bottles if I can find it.

    93-95/100 and beyond.

  • Private Chef Dinner at Yann's New Place (Flatiron, NYC): Blood ruby, light bricking. What a deep, deep floral nose this has, red cherries, orange blossom, sexy musk; maybe a least bit of heat showing but no problem with that! The palate is BIG and extremely dense with fruit, sweet; a Syrah-like (and off-putting) note of bacon blows off quickly, fortunately. Splendid. Wonderful balance very much in the direction of fruit. Wonderful, floral length. This is certainly the best Pousse d'Or I have ever had, by miles. Ready, but probably even better with 5 more years, and then it will be in its prime for a long, long time.
