Coravin fun - Cornas and Leeuwin Estate (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Dusty, blackcurrant and baked beetroot, leather and spice, touch of red currant, cream & vanilla. Juicy, cream and vanilla over muted red and blackcurrant. Tight, flour textured tannins and a little alcohol warmth on the finish. Nice despite the warmth.

Really surprised when this was unveiled - was thinking it was an old world Syrah with rich red fruited flavours seasoned with leather, spice and ferric earthy notes on a medium weight frame. Drinking really nicely now with tannins fully resolved, and a gentle, polished texture.

Leeuwin Estate Birthday dinner (with ringins) (Bitton Restaurant, Erskinville): Ripe blackcurrant tending to cassis, leather, slight truffle, earthy…palate similar, juicy, silky tannins, long. Crikey. Lovely.

Leeuwin Estate Tasting and Dinner (EL Ideas Chicago, IL): Brief taste, good flavor, a bit on the end of its life cycle, still good with quail.

Decanted briefly for sediment. Exceptional. Bordeaux style, tons of graphite, great balance of mature Cabernet fruit and acidity. Drink now-2017
