  • Dinner at Canard (Canard, Portland OR): There is an upfront quality to the nose that is immediate and plush with sassafras, plums, red cherries, strawberries, sour red cherries, spice tones, peppery notes, violets, and some rose petals. The Medium/full bodied feel is plush and balanced with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium tannins. I really like the upfront nature of this even nearly 17 years on. This is drinking beautifully and if its not mature now, then it never will be.

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about 90 minutes.

Garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of potpourri, saddle leather, red hills dust and red berries. Flavors of cranberries, red berries and red cherries. Medium acidity, medium tannin, medium to full bodied. Drink now.

  • this bottle was on the decline... the acids and tannins had faded enough to leave the wine texturally a bit "mushy" or "soft" on the midpalate... would be interesting to taste with a burgundy from a vintage with similar weather at a similar point in evolution to compare how the backbone of the wines aged in comparison... still a very enjoyable wine. drink up.

Tasted non blind with dinner. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about two hours.

Garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of dust, berries, raspberries, cherries and a hint of rubber tire. Flavors of berries, raspberries, strawberries and a bit of cherry. Medium to tart acidity, medium tannin, medium to full bodied. Drink or hold. I'm torn whether to drink or hold my last bottle see where this beauty might go.

  • Medium pale browny red, like a 10 yr old tawny - nose is cherries, forest floor - elegant and intense with exc acidity to carry it along, it has a pure silk mouthfeel, and a complex winey-ness, great length and precision, lovely. What Pinot is all about.
