  Reconditioned at the winery with a Diam cork. Obviously in good shape on the first pour. Subtle and elegant aromas of cherries and earth. Similar flavors, with just enough acidity to keep this fresh. Elegant. Added depth over one hour, with the last glass being the best. This performed very well.

  This was really quite nice; the nose showed some caramel and baking spice initially, with air more dried red berry fruits come to the fore with some underlying forest floor and mushroom, a hint of dried lilac. The palate is mature, but still has very good balance and elegance. Maybe a tiny bit thin in the middle, but really delicious.

  Had Eyrie 89 and 85 side by side, 85 showed much more maturity than 89, 85 was funkier on the nose, with earthy herbal nose and tea leaves, on the palate, it offered soily and earthy sensation with some darker berries vs 85.
  
  Eyrie 89 was extremely elegant yet with great layers and structure, if I blind tasted them I would certainly guess they are burgundy wines, and to be accurate, I would guess they are from Chambolle. During the dinner, we discussed which Chambolle producer could this be, turned out we are leaning toward Ghislaine Barthod. On the nose, Eyrie 89 offered floral sensation, red currants, and slightly mature raspberry, on the palate, the red fruits were opulent but not jammy or overly powerful, what was great and amazing about this wine was that lingering, seductive and intriguing acidity, absolutely love it.

  Dinner at S.K.Y. (Chicago, IL): Tasted side by side with the 85. Library release. This is amazingly young and still rather primary, especially when compared to the '85. Having said that, it has a lot going with terrific depth. Gets more and more complex with air picking a range of secondary earth, tea and leather elements. Terrific.

  Dinner at S.K.Y. with The Little Horse and Ms. Bubblehead (Chicago, IL): I purchased this from retail recently, so I suspect this was one of the late release bottles -- I didn't get a chance to check the cork on it, but this had a black wax top. In any case, next to the 1985, I thought this was the much better bottle. The fruit was so much more delineated, with far more richness and expressiveness, but this wine still retained the delicacy and lightness that are so important for wines made from this grape. There's a lovely vein of racy acidity that balances out the slightly sweeter fruit here. Extremely perfumed and complex, this is yet another example of Eyrie mopping the floor with so many Burgundies.
