Pop n' pour and then consumed over a couple of hours. Gorgeous full nose of earthy red cherry with all kinds of earthen accents to the mature red cherry fruit. The palate is round and still fresh but showing excellent complexity and depth. Terrific precision throughout. Aged Eyrie simply doesn't disappoint. This is this exactly what I want from mature, aged Pinot Noir. Brilliant.

Dinner at Booth One (Chicago, IL): This was the runner up behind the 1973 Latour for the wine of the night. The nose here has a moderate amount of earthy funk, and seemed to be more mushroomy and earthy than the 1985 Reserve that I had opened a few weeks earlier. The palate follows through with the nose, and the fruit opens up with a beautiful sweetness while being counterbalanced with a slight touch of earth (the funk is more on the nose than the palate). Elegant and classic pinot, and another bottle that just makes me wonder why I don't have more Eyrie in my cellar...
