A get well present after my surgery last fall, was supposed to be my first bottle post but I’m glad I waited until now to properly enjoy it Red plums, chocolate, tastes like Pomerol mixed with California cab. Drinking nicely but for my palate would have liked to wait 5-7.

This was a back to back tasting on two consecutive nights. It confirmed my feelings about this wine on the first night. That it lacked gravitas. There’s not much of an finish that lingers on your pallet. Blueberries and blue fruit predominate on the nose and palate, but they disappear quite quickly. I expected more from this wine as the professional critics seem to love it and raved about it. The CellarTracker ratings are more accurate compared to the professional ratings.

Everything about this wine is Pomerol. From the floral, truffle, cocoa, and dark red fruit nose, all the way through to the silky, fresh, sensuous finish, this is what great Pomerol is all about. Drink from 2023-2050.
20-vintage La Conseillante vertical (Fribourg): Part of a 20 vintage vertical (key takeaways in the tasting story). A straightforward wine with ripe cherry fruit. Precise with sweet spice, herbal and floral complexities. A bit of bees wax, too. Very ripe and high-octane palate that lacks integration. This is interesting as fresh in the bottle in 2018 this was one of the highlights with clearer, lighter red berry type of fruit and ultra-fine tannin. Needs revisiting….
