The 2016 iteration of Château Haut-Bages Libéral is a deep-to-opaque ruby blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, aged for 16 months in French oak barriques (40% new). Flaunting an intense aromatic array of cassis, Montmorency cherries, lavender, coriander, pencil shavings and cocoa, it is a medium-bodied, freshly acidic red with well-integrated alcohol (13.5%) and flavors that mirror the nose. At this stage, the plentiful tannins are silky-textured, yielding to the oak component that has not yet fully assimilated. Layered in the middle and concluding with a lengthy, mineral-laden finish, this rivals the 2019 as the best version of Haut-Bages Libéral that I have ever tasted. Give it a bit more time in the cellar to allow the oak to meld. Tasted over a three-hour period from a bottle that had been decanted off of its sediment and then Vinturi-decanted, this showed best after the first two hours in carafe. Drink 2026-2046.

Opens up with scents of cherry and coals, has a soft and elegant feel, picks up some richness with air, flavors hint at crunchy blackberry, cassis, graphite and charred meat, finish just keeps creeping, well balanced, continues to open in the glass, a short decant is reasonable, drinking well

Bonne longueur. Encore 2-3 ans avant la maturité.

This has really picked up steam over the past few years. Now, you find a classic Pauillac, medium-bodied, fresh, crisp, and floral, with hints of tobacco, cherries, currants, and spice. The palate is loaded with sweet, red currants, spice, herbs and cassis. Drink 2024-2045.

무엇보다도 신선한 산미와 구조감의 조화가 매우 매력적인 보르도. 보르도가 항상 이렇다면 얼마나 좋을까. 집 나간 까쇼에 대한 취향도 돌아올텐데.
