  • Mellow old pauillac perfect for a September afternoon. Found at back of cellar long forgotten

Looking at previous notes from 2017 I expected to pour this away. Not at all. The fruit is a bit dumb but still there. Blackberry and bramble and a slight bit of leather. Very nice indeed on a warm autumn bank holiday afternoon with the wife

  • Good, but it took a while for to open and find some of the fruit. Clearly the fruit has dimensioned with time. Probably was best 5 years ago.

  • Fine, ripe nose of red fruits, vanilla, graphite, road tar, tobacco and herbal freshness, but was a little weak on the palate. Present acidity without sufficient flesh and concentration. Had this wine twice over the last year and it showed much better each time.

  • Tasted from a perfectly stored bottle:

A wonderfully rich and complex nose of tobacco, truffles, and plums with a touch of classic pencil-lead and leather. An open bottle of this wine transforms every room into an old library filled with leather-bound books and half-drunk glasses of sherry. There is nothing else for it but to fill it up as a room scent.

Well, if you should also drink it, you will experience a still well balanced wine with lots of fruit, tobacco, leather and a hint of anise. A spectacularly decadent wine. The only criticism I have is the shortage of power. But this is attributable to the vintage. I will look out for the 1990 vintage in the near future.

  • double blind. ha! if you want to torture your friends, bring a decent label wine to one of our blind nights, and be prepared to be embarrassed and have it show as composte. this would have been good had it been poured over the washboard stomach of a $1,000 an hour hooker, allowed to pool in her belly button, and then sipped thru a hep c resistant straw. alas, we had to drink it out of glass.
