Nose: stone fruits, cold steel, peach, white flowers Notes: the more recent vintages of Sauzet's wine often shows a mixture of stone fruits and strong minerality. The wine evolved after opening for 20-30 minutes and a peachy aroma started to come out together with some white flowers. This may be quite attractive to drinkers who like their Chardonnays slim and cold, less so for my taste though. Although there has been quite some irregularities in this vintage, I think this wine is well made and still tastes quite youthful now. I would give it another 3-4 years before trying again. Plenty of spearmint to the aroma. Has the most pure white peach fruit. It is unctuous, with Grand Cru-like weight and power. It is intense and a wine of detail and finesse. Superb!

Rescue Animal gathering at Jailbreak - all Burgundy (Jailbreak Brewery, Laurel, MD): Expressive nose displaying ripe yet cool concentrated yellow and white fruit, apple, lemon curd, a hint of oak, honey and wet stone. Excellent concentration, nicely layered concentrated yellow and white fruit, rich but also showing strong mineral, bright acidity and a long dense yellow fruit driven finish with honey and a hint of oak at the end. This is a big scale, dense and deeply tone wine.

Annual Chicago winos visit - Champagne, White Burg, DRC, La La and SQN (Officina - Washington D.C.): Slightly subdued nose displaying coiled yellow fruit, lemon curd, honey, steel, rainwater and wet stone. Very good concentration, coiled citrus, rich yet precise, bright acidity, steely mineral and a medium to long shy citrus fruit driven finish with wet stone at the end. The fruit is shy and the overall expression is a bit straightforward.

This winemaker’s Les Perrieres keeps disappointing. The 2015 was shy and non descript when I drank it last year but I thought it might have been due to the stemware and the humidity of a hot un air conditioned Asian Kitchen. But the 2016 drunk in Como Cookhouse’s air conditioned splendour, albeit not in crystal stemware, also produced the same reticence. There was some limestone and cool pebbles with hints of citrus but ever so slightly. It feels elegant no doubt but so muted it was frustrating.
