That rare combination of very easy to drink with lots of complexity, already in a wine of this age. Really delightful. Abbreviated notes, but it was a standout for sure.

If you own this wine and have a lot of patience, this is going to be a gem. There is a fabulous depth of flavor that comes from its seamless layers of black and red fruits, smoke, licorice, olives, and spice. Rich, intense, full-bodied, and seriously concentrated, even its youth, it is hard to deny its potential. Drink from 2025-2055.

We decanted this upon pouring to give it some air. Initially I found aromas of bacon fat, maple and face powder, reminding some of the Copain syrahs from earlier days. Moderately inky dark fruit, and grilled meat. The decanter helped loosen up the wine yet there was a coil that remained and some rocky tannin around the edges of the wine. And the oak it saw during elevage is still playing a primary role, adding some dark chocolate. There is a core of red fruit here but it's all feeling pretty youthful still. What I value about Aloka sharing this with us is to taste a wine of this caliber that is early in its arc. Without an early look, then we don't have a way to help calibrate where the wine may head into the future.

A definite winner! Nice dark fruit, medium texture. Some charcoal and mild pepper on the finish.
