  • Bell pepper and jalapeño, strong stony mineral notes that I sometimes get in Washington wines. I know this bottling is one of the more highly regarded in the region, but it simply isn’t my cup of tea.

  • [Tasted double blind at Kevin's]

I immediately thought Bordeaux blend, but not from Bordeaux. Tasted more green to me, thus either a higher Cabernet Franc blend (pyrazines) or from South America. I didn't think it fit California so went with Chilean/Argentina.

Med+/pronounced intensity, red and black fruit, plums, cherry, cassis, bell pepper, tomato leaf, oak, leather. I thought the herbaceous notes were fairly apparent, but not in a bad way. Very smooth tannins, med tannins, long finish, full body. Ended up pairing it with enchiladas, worked quite well. 93 pts

  • The fifth vintage of this wine which I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying since the 1999 vintage. Impeccable winemaking, with the ability to age for 20+ years. Youthful even at six years. Always leads with a dark loamy, slightly sour soil entry, followed by juicy blackberry, ripe black cherry; crunchy black plum, dark chocolate, black coffee, herbal tea, and sweet baking spices. Displays the perfect balance of black fruits, soft tannins, integrated sweet oak, and medium acidity. Perfect accompaniment to grilled ribeye; grilled asparagus, and whole mushrooms. Finishes focused and long. Can drink now with hearty food and decanting, but this might drink well for another 15+ years. World class and quite impressive. A personal favorite, equal to Don Melchior, Sena, and Clos Apalta.

  • Decant for 2 hours. It is elegant style with good combination of fruity and earthy taste. I don't think it can change much if I age it for a few more years. For the price, I think I can choose something better.
