  • Friday Double Blind Tasting $60+ (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): Deeper extraction, brighter reddish violet rim; deep nose, plush, velvety nose, dense, tar, black fruit, plum; dense and extracted on the palate too but it wants to show a cooler climate influence, liqueured, textured, cocoa, tobacco, serious and deep; Clarendon Hills Syrah?

  • Decanted 3h but I'd go closer to 5h at this moment in time.

Black olive, cassis, vanilla, mocha, fruit cake heavy with baking spice, black cherry, peppercorns, tobacco.

Forget about this in your cellar for another few years. Even with decanting at this moment you're not getting the full value of this wine.

  • Decanted 6hrs. Been quite some time since I have purchased a Shiraz north of a Hundo, actually make that never, but a dear friend really wanted to try this so we split the tab. I was expecting something along the lines of a Amon Ra - huge ripeness, heavy, well made, fun to drink, etc. And while it was to a certain extent, it leaned more towards a Dead Arm of many vintages ago, say ripe blackberry fruit that carried a touch of fresh eucalyptus leaves, sound acidity, and very, very fresh. Yes some new oak pokes through on the back third, but there is plenty of raw material to absorb and make this work. Not hard to be inclined to enviosion a good 15 years or more of positive evolution. Very happy to break from my purchasing norm and while the overall value play is a little suspect at $130 - splitting this cost had resulted on a pure focus of the wine itself.
