  • A tired wine showing some gravel, tobacco, spice and earth. The 2nd glass was almost not drinkable. Based on the first glass an easy pass and worth about $30 a bottle if that.

  • Dubai Emirates lounge. The usual impressive wine line up. Only tried a few of the Bdx. 07 Lalande, 06 Lagrange and 06 Cantenac Brown next to each other. All from open bottle in fridge and likely opened for some time already.
Best to my surprise the 07 Pichon Lalande: slightly evolved color with a touch of browning, wonderful smooth on the palate, medium fruit but without any sweetness, tannins entirely integrated, very elegant, fairly short finish though. 92 and at peak over the next 5 years I would say.
Cantenac Brown is showing better concentration, sweeter fruit but does not come accross as well balanced. Medium (-) length. 91+ good now but perhaps still with a slight upside with another 2-3 years in bottle.
The Lagrange, which is a wine I usually really enjoy (think not only 90 and 2000 but also for example 1994) cannot keep up entirely here. The fruit seems leaner than for the two others and the tannins are sticking out here a little. Comes across as a bit rustic right now. Perhaps this can soften and come together with another 5 years in bottle but would not bet my money on it. 89+

  • Emirates: This was served in business on the connecting flight. Garnet, dark fruit, wood spices, round and accessible without the hardness many of the 2006 showed in their youth. Tannins fully integrated. Medium length. Nice and ready to drink.

  • Rather intense, slightly medicinal. Not what I expected given it's age. Perhaps a bit over the top, oak and dense herbal fruit. But mercifully without the dry grape skin character that can afflict 2006 vintage Bordeaux.

    Interesting, worth trying again later.
