Tasting Ground official tasting, Chateau Cantenac Brown vertical tasting (Oinoscent): 68% Cab Sauvignon 32% Merlot 16 months French oak (60% new, 40% 1st use) Harvest dates: Merlot 23-29/09 Cab Franc 03-04/10 Cab Sauvignon 10-19/10 13.50% alc -/- Bottle open 09.20 tasted 11.20 Big powerful nose, broad, fleshy, ripe red and black fruit, juicy, showing depth, the fruit is more distinguished, youthful, more oak but definitely well in balance with the fruit. Palate showing full body, very ripe, rich, red fruit, shows warmth but not heat, very dry, highly extracted, spice and oak notes, broad, long finish. If I had to find something here, I’d say that feels a bit flabby, lacking some nerve to be truly great. But drinking very nicely even now and almost everyone loved it in the tasting

Opened up and let decant over a couple hours. Felt way too early to have opened. Wish I had kept for additional aging. Have a few more bottles so won’t open those for a while.

An easy afternoon with close friends. (By BV @ PdV): Bouquet with a lot of lactic, metal and candy impressions; still very youthful. On the palate creamy yoghurt, juicy, good acidity, and round tannin. The wine is still very youthful. Probably wise to wait at least until 2028 before uncorking a bottle. 92 - 93++

This is still quite youthful with superb grippy intensity to go along with the ripe dark red fruit. A voluminous wine with good acidity and verve along with firm but opulent tannins. A classic iron fist in a velvet gove and I love this for mid-term aging. This is a Chateau I've avoided in the past but not anymore. Shows best now with 3-hour decant and a charred steak. 93+
