Wine gathering at RJ's; 4/4/2023-4/7/2023 (South Carolina): Incredibly complex tertiary dominating nose displaying mature sweet red fruit, plum, dry cherry, a hint of cassis, leather, strong tobacco, lead pencil, sweet spices and earth. Still showing generous red fruit, warm and rich, bright acidity, strong iron mineral, still showing a bit of tannins, and a long mature red fruit driven finish with tobacco and iron at the end. I am a big fan of very old Bordeau and I love the mature red fruit expression that can only come from old reds. There are no great old wines but only great bottles and this is great.

Last of the two bottles. Surprisingly lively still and held up well in the glass for much longer than expected. Very acidic (as the previous bottle). Wonderful aromatics on the nose when letting the wine rest in the glass for a bit.

Very interesting to try. Surprisingly acidic, probably due to it being considerably past peak. Not much fruit left. Lasted for about 5-10 min in the glass, then it was "gone".

Cubs Playoff Wines (Lake Forest, IL): A real treat to try. Mature earthy aromas of a dusty autumn walk through a forest. Dry dark flavors with some nice elements of sweet dark cherry. Finishes a bit lean and dry, yet offers nice pleasure. Based on this bottle, which had nice dark color, although quite opaque, best days behind. By no means dead or void of interest. Thanks GW.

Sweet tea. Amber color. Earthy. A bit top heavy, with more old-wine character than anything particularly characteristic. Fun.
