  • It's a show off after more than three days in the bottle (cork back after every pouring out). Highly acidic juice with strong tanning(lack of fineness). Truffle, forest, grilled meat and smoked oak of course for a reformed Barolo. Balanced and rich palate for a 24 year-old wine. Long and structured finish, medium+ body. Good for drinking now.

  • Three glasses in Gambero Rosso at the time when they were fascinated by New oak barrels. Heavy, toasted aromas of stewed fruit (almost prunes), coffee and smoke. Full boded, but lacking some freshness to Balance the (too) sweet fruit. Lengthy aftertaste, but rather Heavy. American style. This is not due to the vintage (very warm), we tasted this wine back to back With the 1996, and the 1996 showed exactly the same aromas and taste profile. Somewhat disappointing.

  • Ready to go with only 30mins in a decanter. Very dark and heavy on tar characteristics. Some meat/leather but very much like liquid asphalt in looks and appearance. Very nice but without enough red fruit or floral complexity to score higher for me. At peak already but obviously no hurry. A recent gift from Mr Grasso from his cellar, this is the first Runcot vintage. Quality has significantly increased since - the 2010 (due for release Sept 2016) was just amazing when I lasted tasted it with the family. One to buy in multiple cases.

  • Appena aperto, quasi 3 ore prima di servirlo, appariva scomposto e poco espressivo. Al momento del servizio invece si è offerto in tutto il suo splendore. Naso non ancora completamente terziarizzato, con marasca, frutti di bosco e rosa secca, sopra a tabacco liquirizia, goudron e chiodo di garofano. Le tostature del legno sono state oramai assorbite da lungo tempo. In bocca grande struttura, con tannini magnificamente evoluti, equilibrio ad alto livello. Delizioso finale lungo ed appagante. Non può migliorare ulteriormente, vale la pena aprirlo ora.

  • This wine is ready and at its peak. Leather, musk, meat (blood), some herbaciousness, cherries, even some fennel detected by some. VERY old school and backward and beautiful. Very well balanced. Tannins well resolved and a smooth silky texture on the palate.

    Second only to 1990 La Turque and just ahead of the 1989 Rauzan Segla. Not bad for an old Italian seeking a seat at the table.
