  • No notes taken. A bit too woody and pushed for a Barbaresco for me, but the substance is impressive and the potential is undeniable. The wine already shows it‘s elegance and lightness. I guess in 10-15 years, this could become great, but in true Gaja fashion, this will always remain a rather modern expression of Nebbiolo.

Decanting: Open and ready from the go, no extensive decanting needed.

  • 14 different vineyard sites. Its got a pronounced smell, but not crazy high expression to it. Mid palate is soft and easy, and then a back bone on the back. Insanely over priced.

  • Tasted at Gaja masterclass conducted by Mr.Giovanni Gaja himself at the Wine Merchant Langsuan, Bangkok. The 2019 Gaja Barbaresco has expressed beautiful delicacy, complex aromas of rose, orange peel, hibiscus, lavender and licorice. It has an exquisite balance, smooth texture, medium-bodied, feminine in style, fine-grained tannins and a lovely finish. Finesse should represent best for this wine, definitely lots of upside potential, still infant but already offers pleasure today yet should integrate better given a few more years.

  • Brilliant mid ruby, vibrant and quite light. Nose is quintessentially rose petal, mid red fruit beneath it, but dominated by the florality giving it real lift. Fine, lightly velvety tannins and good fruit in the mid palate with decent length. A touch o evolution and richness lending itself to The accompanying sweetbread and duck. ****

  • Decanted for an hour before pairing with osso buco…

Powerful aromas of red fruits and blossoms with a hint of organic, mushroom. Mild tannin, despite youth, and very drinkable now. Held up well to powerful veal dish.

I’m sure it will age very well too, the challenge will be to keep them!
