My 4th experience with Les Carmes H-B, where I was initially dissapointed with my two very tight and shy bottles of 2011 vintage, but much better impressed by RL's 2010.
Then comes... LMC's 2007 magnum on the occassion of SKT's belated birthday. The best Les Carmes I have ever had with such great minerality!
Blend: Merlot 45%, Cab Franc 45%, Cab 10%. Maturing: 50% new barrels, 50% once-used barrels, for 18 months.
Nose: Black fruits, with beautiful vanilla roasted oak. Palate: Blackberries, blueberries, hints of red fruit, and fresh cedar too.
With the nose, and first taste on the palate.. I was led to describe this as a early 2000s vintage Bordeaux, from the left bank. Not so far-off! Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied, with silky minerality growing in concentration.
Tannins: Rounded but still some structure, aging beautifully in this large 1.5 L magnum format. Acidity: Medium Finish: Medium-long and complex with spices.
Vintage: 2007 had a cool mild winter and spring, requiring a lot of work in the vines. This included thinning of leaves and bunches with precision, followed by a sunny Sept and rigorous selection.Average age of vines back in 2007 was circa 37 years, in this Pessac-Leognan property with its gravel over clay-limestone terroir.
Wonderful bottle, and definitely one of the Top 3 offerings of the night... thanks brother LMC!

First of my six bottles purchased as "cellar discount" at local wine-shop. Had been blow away by the 2000 vintage and still have 2010 in the cellar. This 2007 certainly doesn't compare, however the vintage isn't in its favour.
Nose - not that expressive fire, burnt rubber aroma's I was hoping to find. Still, it vaguely came through, quite passive though and it died over time ( shame ). Taste - nicely integrated tannins, very smooth and flowing well around. Flavour - again, missing that punch that an for example SHL07 does show.
All in all, for 30 Euro / bottle, this is a lovely Bordeaux wine, but not typical Pessac to me. Still, to be enjoyed right now, and a couple of years left to go ( 2020-2021 ).

Medium nose intensity with notes of oak, charr wood, black fruits, spices. Medium+ finish. High tannin and acidity.

Decanted. A few more years, but it isn't better. Fine, and typical, and still old school, but not improving. 13%

One year on and opened another bottle - my initial notes still stand.
Well made seeing the vintage, but not wow nor particular high-end.
