amazing colour, limpid mid red with no browning. Nose fresh red fruits some underbrush, very vigorous. V youthful on palate long still tannins evident but red fruits behind. Bursting with flavour and lively acidity. Remarkably fresh and delicious. Will last 10 years on this showing.

Volnay @ The Ledbury (The Ledbury, London): Smoother, slightly meaty nose, maturing, a little caramel. Again, strawberry fruit on the attack and mid-palate. Sweet-fruited within a more restrained frame. Again, a nice strawberry fruit coming through. Nose opens out to cigar and a touch of leather. Engaging. ****

Very fine, completely ripe. Beautiful nose, floral, but also forest, very interesting. Excellent balance on the palate, very complete. Very broad, a little backward, you have to taste over and over again and every time you notice something else.

Christopher Prain's Mature Burgundy Dinner @ Ten Bells (Upstairs @ The Ten Bells): Smells of bolognese - make of that what you want. Focused. Red fruit. Expressive. Really tasty.
