Medium yellow. As was the case a few years ago, this had a lot of sulfur to accompany ripe yellow fruit and just a bit of seashell. Lush texture but inadequate acidity and shortened by the sulfur. Hardly recognizable as Chablis at this point, and a totally disjointed wine that is going nowhere. A major disappointment as I had hoped that somehow this would be spared from the flabbiness of the vintage, but there is no escaping it, even if you tried to mitigate that characteristic with excessive manipulation. A recent encounter with the 2006 Raveneau Clos shows that this is no fluke when it comes to the top wines. I am ready to jettison my remaining stock. You have to go back to 2003 to find a Chablis vintage that is less appealing than this one.

Still fresh, slighltly golden in color, staightforward but not special, good minerality pear and touch of lemon and sea brine.

Progress Report-2006 Dauvissat and Raveneau Chablis (Northern California): This had by far the most typical Chablis briny, brothy aromatics. Less sweet than the Vaillons or Forest. Medium weight, lovely texture and surprisingly ready. It showed some sulfur as it sat open.

Crisp and clean, honey suckle and pear, terrific chilled and even better as it warms as rich flavor lingers
