This is relatively ripe, juicy, dense, and smooth. Champs-Chenys is below Charmes, and this bottling is from older vines. A lot to like in a village wine, and good value, if you are okay with a bigger style.

Drank side by side with the 2002, which I prefer for the long haul. In the interim, this is drinking very well. Throws notes of hickory, red apple skin and airy red berries, though overall it's a little muted compared to the 2002s nose. Medium body with crunchy red fruit and good balance between acidity and tannin, which has mostly resolved. No rush to drink these, but I wouldn't sit on them for perhaps more than five more years.

Lovely and loaded for the long haul. Very gevrey with earth, underbrush and soil tones that dance on the palate. Easy to see this improve for 20 years with cold storage and last for 30++

(Domaine Joseph Roty Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champs-Chenys) Rich sous bois, tart cherry nose; tasty, concentrated, strawberry, raspberry and tea palate; medium finish

Drank from 1/2 bottle. Light brick red colour, with Some sediments.
Nose: Quite opulent - lots of dried fruit. Smelled exactly like a port!? Would never have guessed burgundy from the nose
Medium/light palate however, with subtle fruit (mainly strawberries), and velvety mouthfeel, so more traditional burgundy here.
