A still enjoyable wine, especially with foods that include fresh flavors such as garden tomatoes, but has the two main warning signs that justify putting a Rhone wine on the watch list for consuming sooner - a growing barnyard in the smell, and a growing sourness in the mouth.
Long et opulent, cochon, j'adore. 91-92 pts
Nose blackberry, black raspberry, garrigue driven. Screams Rhone grenache. Good minerals, slightly hot, good balance, still showing strong fruit, some age showing, but I think it has a few years ahead still. long finish for price point. Paired well with steak.

If you are looking for top-end backyard or Sunday afternoon wines to enjoy over the next five years, this is one of the last 2007 parcels I’ve been able to find (at an enticing price). My guess is that most of you will be very happy to have these laying around the cellar when unexpected guests arrive or a party of one (you) dictates experimentation with the 2007 vintage but you can’t bring yourself to open a prized Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
2007 Charvin Cotes-du-Rhone 'Les Poutet' - Limited 60/person (compare at $20-25+) (while I wasn’t that enamored with this wine last year, it continues to get better and better. It has gained depth and structure with time in the bottle – it is more tannic and serious than the above review would have you believe – should be at peak in 3-4 years, not now - JR)
Plus, a bonus wine that I find especially enticing despite my usual dissatisfaction with this producer. From a great vineyard source...
2007 Gerin St. Joseph - EXTREMELY LIMITED (if you admire the animal of Syrah that can only be found in this area of the world, you will thoroughly enjoy this wine - should continue to improve for several years – JR)
