    (POUTET Charvin) Weekend

    Dear Friends,

A few well-priced Rhones set to arrive shortly...

If you are looking for top-end backyard or Sunday afternoon wines to enjoy over the next five years, this is one of the last 2007 parcels I’ve been able to find (at an enticing price). My guess is that most of you will be very happy to have these laying around the cellar when unexpected guests arrive or a party of one (you) dictates experimentation with the 2007 vintage but you can’t bring yourself to open a prized Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

All are well above their level:

2007 Beau Mistral Rasteau Vieilles Vignes - Limited 24/person
    (compare at $20-28+)

    2007 Charvin Cotes-du-Rhone 'Les Poutet' - Limited 60/person
    (compare at $20-25+)
(while I wasn’t that enamored with this wine last year, it continues to get better and better. It has gained depth and structure with time in the bottle – it is more tannic and serious than the above review would have you believe – should be at peak in 3-4 years, not now - JR)

Plus, a bonus wine that I find especially enticing despite my usual dissatisfaction with this producer. From a great vineyard source...

2007 Gerin St. Joseph - EXTREMELY LIMITED
(if you admire the animal of Syrah that can only be found in this area of the world, you will thoroughly enjoy this wine - should continue to improve for several years – JR)
