  • This has aged wonderfully. Aromas of raspberry and cherry compote, with lots of smoky, menthol, leather, mushroom and soy glaze. Fresh acidity on the palate with smooth tannins, but enough to give the wine some structure, still. Subdued red fruit, but still there, it's the non-fruit elements that give this wine serious power and complexity: mushroom, leather, scorches earth, sage, black pepper, soy. Deep floral and black tea notes as well, anise and minerals on the finish. Stuck between two much more heralded vintages, I was really surprised at how well this was showing. One of my favorite Cotes du Rhone wines.

  • Thin but lively garnet color. Earthy, spicy aromas. There is a ton of cherry fruit, but the acidity and backbone are threatening to give in. Matched great with flounder lightly sauteed in a balsamic reduction.
