89+ pts

  • Rhone Tasting: Elegant and floral with sweet cherries and roses on the nose. Silky but still firm tannins, lots of plums and red cherries. Smooth but still powerful with notes of herbs, black pepper, red pepper, earth. Tasted blind, I guessed this as an 09, it was that well-structured and seemingly young. Impressive to see how well this is doing (given proper storage, of course). Charvin’s Le Poutets can age!

90 pts

  • Bought chez Charvin and stored in France. I can see from my notes that this wine was drinking well in 2010 and four years later it continues to do so. The nose is floral and dominated by pretty ret fruit, the palate gentle and refined showing the same red-fruited profile. This shows the same elegance and refinement I find in Reynauds wine and which I've found in the lighter vintages for Charvin. There is no hard edges here but the tannins are still present underneath which means there is more to come. Enjoyed over several days with no change of profile.

  • Something wrong here. Sharp on the attack, something off-putting, jagged palate. Did not improve over three nights.
