For my last bottle I wrote that it was time to finish up. This one was in a much better shape. Perfect maturity, jammed black fruit and cedar in the nose. Well balanced, expressive on the palate, with black chocolate, cedar, tobacco, port, clove, animal and mentholic notes, blended to please. Sorry to repeat, but most Bdx enter the scene between 15 and 20 years, that's how it is! Drink now and over the coming 2 years.

Pre-sale tasting Winefields Auctioneers: Again a 2003-surprise, a ripe colour and lots of ripe fruit, but not too ripe, lovely bitters and tannins; no signs of the heat of 2003.

En Primeur campaign for the 2022 vintage Day Four (Bordeaux): From Magnum. A little savoury, meaty note married to sous bois, blackcurrant bramble support with a smidge of leather. Medium plus intensity acidity, tannins are hard, chewy, tight, liquorice and black hued fruits in support. Meh.

Fully matured, cedar, leather, plum, tobacco in the nose. Medium bodied, the palate is elegant and finely structured, with fully matured red berries, chocolate, tobacco, cedar. Some acidity creeping into the finish, time to finish up.
