This was one wine out of a lineup of seven and didn't get as much attention as previous bottles. The biggest thing that stood out is how young this came across. This bottle was purchased at auction and everyone agreed that whoever owned it had a cold, well-controlled cellar. All of use would have guessed a 3-5 year old wine. That compares with other bottles I've had that showed beautiful aged character - chalk it up to storing around 65 F. Anyway, not much of a note here except to say it is a great expression and, as previously noted, more N. Rhone than south and if you've stored it well, it's got years to go.

The previous bottle had been picked up from a retailer and transported a number of miles less than three weeks prior to consumption. This one had another month to rest and it was quite different. Much fresher and refined. I think it had years left in the tank. Now I really, really wish I had more :(

Paired perfectly with a slow roast lamb shoulder dish. This bottle showed nice aged character if a bit "off" at some points. (It was recently purchased from a retailer which I think is reliable, but with which I have not experience.) Like other bottles, more northern Rhone than stereotypical California Syrah, more aromatics even though their is a strong ripe dark fruits thread in it; came across it touch sour at times, which worked with the food, and showed dusty earth and herbal tones. Very nice.

With 10 years of age, this Syrah was hitting on all cylinders tonite. Still deep and dark purple in color, the nose and palate reveal a beautifully balanced wine that comes across more French than Cali. Red and black fruits are complemented by earthy notes. The tannins have softened nicely, and the wine's refreshing finish is lengthened by the med acidity. Drink now through 2020+.

Delicious. Perfect right now. Pepper, tobacco, boysenberry, pepper, crushed stone, raw meat, clove. Really good for a single varietal.
