  • 100% Cabernet Franc.

  • Originally a Bordeaux blend, this Bolgheri has evolved into a 100% Cabernet Franc masterpiece. Young and vibrant, full bodied with plum/cherry/blackberry/raspberry, espresso and chocolate on the nose followed up with a quite similar taste. Smooth and well balanced this SuperTuscan is drinking well now and should continue for another 10 years. Time to stock a few more in the cellar. Thanks Jack for sharing this and giving me the opportunity to taste my first La Macchiole.

  • Drunk over two evenings - it did not change dramatically. Deep Burgundy colour. Immediately on bouquet, you pick up the richness and ripeness of this Paleo. Aromas of Black Doris plums and other red and dark fruits, tea leaves, espresso and a little dark chocolate. Also, dried herbs you would associate with Cabernet Franc. Very ripe, rich and unctuous on palate. Generous, dense with serious fruit weight and power. Flavours of black currants (a suggestion of cassis), mocaccino and high cocoa chocolate. Some vanillin oak artefact that needs more cellar time to properly integrate. Suave, fine grained tannins. Nice savoury, earthy elements emerged on the second day giving a hint of where it will go when it starts to move secondary. I'll be holding my other bottle for 8-10 years.

  • Middle to light red at the rim - lightly aromatic nose with earthy notes. Medium bodied but dense and still tightly wound. There is a slight bitterness on the finish (which should go with more ageing) also a little heat. Needs more cellar time (2 years+).

(Le Macchiole Paleo, Toscana IGT) A unique expression of Cabernet Franc (100%), showing lavender and herbal aromas with a trace of eucalyptus. Blackberry, tobacco, and Spanish black olive appear on the palate. Beautifully balanced, though still young.
    Appellation: Bolgheri
