Dark red, but with a good degree of transparency. Not much aromatically. Very lean, with noticeable but not intrusive tannins. Not very rich or satisfying in the fruit department. Didn't improve in the glass. Wondering if this bottle was mishandled somewhere along the way.
I took this to a friends Cabernet Franc tasting on 10/17/15. It had a deep, rich and completely awesome bouquet of cocoa, mocha, black cherry, plum, cinnamon and spice aromas. The palate was rich, layered and delicious with flavors that followed the nose.
Blind tasted in a flight of 5 2009 SuperTuscans. Nose and palate showed oak notes, red fruit, red plum, flowers, forest notes, sweet spice. Others thought it screamed Cab Franc but I didn't get that. Rich layers, excellent wine.
I concur with recent notes. This needs a healthy decant, 3-5 hours is probably best. It holds a strong structure and a solid tannic backbone, impressive for the vintage. Notes of ripe raspberry, coffee, blueberry, violets, lavender, intense but the tannins keep it interesting. Lacking the "green" notes cold climate cab francs possess and i adore, but this is highly appealing still. Flavors linger long on and balanced on the palate and i think this will develop over the next few years and hold for a decade. Lovely
