D+0h: a tiny bit of deposit in the filter, smells of sour cherry, D+5h: dark as ink, smells of blackberry, raspberry, bread and a little bit of eucalyptus, smooth in the mouth, full body, not completely dry, has a little bit of residual sugar left, in the mouth sour cherry, bread and blackberry, in the aftertaste acidity, bread and blackberry, good length (30 sec), well-made red wine, I’m still undecided if I like the smell and taste of bread.

Pale yellow colour, smells of honey and of the spiciness that comes with muscat, at first it has a light body, but that gets fuller with time, thus the second glass has a medium body, in the mouth honey and the muscat spiciness, not completely bone dry, has a tiny dash of residual sugar left, in the aftertaste lychee and muscat, good length (15 sec), really good summer wine.

Pale yellow colour, smells of gooseberry, very slightly of flint stone and of nuts, not that dry/tart, so has a little bit of residual sugar, medium body, in the mouth gooseberry and a little bit nutty, the 14% alcohol are well integrated, in the aftertaste gooseberry and sour touch, good length (15 sec), not that great, would not buy again.

Pale yellow colour, smells of gooseberry and quince, in the mouth gooseberry and quince as well, has a certain residual sugar left, so is more off-dry, medium body, in the aftertaste acidity, gooseberry and a little bit nutty, good length (20 sec), this wine really lacks in typicity, no flint stone aromas, not as good as the 2015 I had last year.

Pale golden colour, smells of gooseberry, medium body, in the mouth gooseberry and melon, a little bit off dry, so not completely dry, has an oily-sweet core, medium acidity (so still quite a lot for a wine three years after the vintage), in the aftertaste acidity and gooseberry, very good length (20 sec), there is some winestone/ cream of tartar in the glass after the last pour, very good Riesling.

One litre bottle, pale yellow colour, smells of passion fruit and gooseberry, light body, only a little bit of acidity, dry, but not in a tart way, tastes mildly of passion fruit and gooseberry, in the aftertaste passion fruit and gooseberry as well, medium length (10 sec), quite good for the low price (I paid 6,50 Euro) and the fact that it’s a litre bottle.

From a half bottle: golden colour, smells of dried apricot and butter brittle/ butter scotch, light body, sweet, but not overly so, in the mouth butter brittle/ butter scotch and a little bit of dried apricot, in the aftertaste butter brittle/ butter scotch and gooseberry, short finish (5 sec), good BA for every day. When I compare my earlier notes to this one I think it’s time to drink up my remaining bottles.

Pale golden colour, smells of flint stone and slightly of petrol, light to medium body, has a little bit of residual sugar, so is not completely dry, doesn’t have much acidity left, in the mouth a little bit of flint stone and a little bit of petrol, in the aftertaste acidity and apricot, medium length (10 sec), goes from a great nose over a middling taste to a poor finish, so the smell promises more that the wine actually delivers in the end, nevertheless it’s a good wine for the price when you think of how much similar Nierstein village wines from other producers cost.

Pale yellow colour, smells of pear and gooseberry, in the mouth gooseberry, acidity and a little bit of pear, medium acidity, has 11,5% ABV, light to medium body, doesn’t have much residual sugar left, quite dry, in my eyes even a little bit tart, in the aftertaste gooseberry and acidity, good length (15 sec), well made Riesling for fans of more rough/austere wines, I personally would have liked more residual sugar.

Very pale colour, has small bubbles of carbonic acid, smells of rhubarb and gooseberry, light body, more off-dry, so a little bit of residual sugar which is balanced by a nice and crisp acidity, in the mouth rhubarb and gooseberry, in the aftertaste rhubarb and acidity, medium length (10 to 15 sec), good and tasty Vinho Verde.

Pale colour, has some small bubbles of carbonic acid, smells of pear and gooseberry, light body, kind of off-dry, so not bone dry, in the mouth pear and gooseberry, nice acidity (more than the Grüne Veltliner I know have), in the aftertaste pear and a little bit of almond bitterness, good length (15 sec), good white wine, I like it better than the Grüne Veltliner I know.

Disgorged in June 2018 after 94 months on the lees, 4th batch with 1300 bottles (according to the back label).

Pale yellow colour, fine mousseux, smells of melon, green apple and a little bit nutty, medium body, dry, but not in a tart way, in the mouth melon, green apple and nutty, doesn’t have much acidity, in the aftertaste green apple, nutty and acidity, very long finish (30 sec).

Tasted blind I would not have guessed this to be a Riesling sparkling wine, it reminded me more of a NV champage. I had expected petrol notes after ten years. If you like your Riesling sparklers to taste more of Riesling, then you probably need to drink those with shorter time on the lees.

I would have scored it higher, if it had tasted more like Riesling. As it is, it’s not bad either, it’s just not what I expected or particularly like.

Very pale colour, has big bubbles of carbonic acid, smells of pear and in the background a little bit of melon, has a medium body given that this is a simple Vinho Verde, there is a little bit of residual sugar and a lot of crisp acidity, in the mouth pear and a little bit of melon, in the aftertaste pear and acidity, medium finish (10 sec), for a simple 2,99 € a bottle Vinho Verde this is quite good.

Pale yellow colour, smells of flint stone, apricot and minerality, medium body, creamy with a certain residual sugar, so more off-dry, medium acidity, I had expected more acidity in such a young wine, but perhaps 2018 was simply too hot, in the mouth gooseberry and melon, in the aftertaste gooseberry, acidity and a little bit of apricot, very good length (20 + sec), good Riesling, which could have had more acidity.

Pale yellow colour, has some small bubbles of carbonic acid, smells of gooseberry and in the background mildly of melon and flint stone, has a lot of acidity, medium body, in the mouth gooseberry and melon, the residual sugar is hardly recognisable due to the high acidity, the wine appears to be not even off-dry, but almost dry, in the aftertaste gooseberry, melon and acidity, good length (15 sec). Good Kabinett, which tastes almost dry because of the high acidity, with the low alcohol of 9% it’s a very refreshing summer wine. It’s a little one-dimensional, though, so not in the same league as the Prüm Kabinett I tried last week.

Would not buy again.
