D+0h: cork comes out intact with a standard corkscrew, a tiny, tiny, tiny bit of deposit both in the filter and the bottle, smells of dark fruits, perhaps raspberry? D+4h: dark as ink, on the rim slightly purple red, smells of blackberry, a little bit of smoke and a little bit of graphite, smooth in the mouth, has a certain residual sugar, so not completely dry, medium body, in the mouth blackberry and graphite, in the aftertaste blackberry, graphite and acidity, good length (30 sec) good red wine.

Bottled unfiltered in 2007.
D+0h: cork almost breaks when using a standard corkscrew, so I switched to a butler’s friend to get the cork out completely, for a port of this age it’s only a medium deposit (if it was a red wine, I would call it “a lot of deposit”), smells seductively of currant D+13,5h: colour between dark as ink and purple red, smells of currant, a little bit of liquorice, a little bit of eucalyptus and a little bit of dark chocolate, smooth in the mouth, not hot/spirituous, sweet, but not overly sweet (for Warre, which has one of the sweetest house styles in the port trade, it’s almost “off-dry”), medium body, in the mouth currant, liquorice, dark chocolate and a little bit of eucalyptus, in the aftertaste liquorice, dark chocolate, currant and acidity, very good length (45 sec), good unfiltered LBV, but I had expected more from Warre’s which probably make the best unfiltered LBVs on the market. Everything that makes a great port is there, but it’s kind of pale or tuned down right now. I guess given the vintage it probably needs more time (one or two years) to really show its true potential.

D+0h: a very lot of deposit in both the filter and the bottle (this wine is truly “unfiltered” as the back label clearly states), smells of raspberry D+3,5h: colour between dark as ink and purple red, smells of blackberry, plum and in the background a little bit of raspberry, smooth in the mouth, medium body, has a certain residual sugar, so not completely dry, in the mouth blackberry and plum, in the aftertaste plum and blackberry, good length (30 sec), a really good red wine for a small price (I paid 7,19 Euros).

D+0h: no deposit in the filter nor in the bottle, smells very, very mildly of strawberry D+4h: colour between dark as ink and purple red, smells of strawberry and raspberry with a little bit of violets in the background, medium deposit, smooth in the mouth (albeit also a little bit metallic), has a certain residual sugar, so not completely dry, in the mouth strawberry and raspberry, in the aftertaste violets and strawberry, good length (30 sec), I think the strawberry notes come from the 12 months maturation in barrels that were used to mature vintage port (as the marketing blurb put onto the bottle neck loudly announces), young ruby port usually tastes of strawberry.
This wine is a crowd-pleaser without anything that would make it interesting. Would not buy again.

I prefer the Pombal do Vesuvio, so a 100% Douro wine, will not buy any Post Scriptum in the future.

Bottled in 2021. Bottle is open for 24 hours. Purple red colour, smells of raisins and in the background a little bit of smoke, full body, not very sweet for a port, smooth in the mouth, not hot/spirituous, in the mouth raisins and in the background a little bit of smoke and also a little bit of almonds, in the aftertaste raisins, smoke and acidity, very good length (45 sec). If it was a 10 Year Tawny, this would be a good port, but for a 20 Year Old Tawny it’s quite mediocre. I’m really glad this was on discount.
In addition to this, the bulky show-off bottle is very unpractical. It doesn’t fit into any bottle cooler and only stands askew and bent forward in the bottle shelf of the fridge door.

Bottled unfiltered in 2001. D+0h: cork comes out intact with a butler’s friend, the cork is branded with “Quinta do Castelinho LBV 1997”, not much deposit in the filter nor in the bottle for a port that has been in the bottle for 20 years, more a medium deposit, smells of cherry D+13,5h: ruby red colour, so quite a light colour, smells of marzipan, cherry, eucalyptus and in the background a little bit of liquorice, not very sweet (for a port almost half-dry), smooth in the mouth, light body, in the mouth marzipan, eucalyptus and cherry, not hot/spirituous, in the aftertaste marzipan, cherry and a little bit of both eucalyptus and acidity, very good length (45 sec), is quite evolved in comparison to the last time five years ago, I liked it better then, perhaps I will decant my other (and last) bottle shorter (perhaps just for 6 hours).

My last (unfortunately bad experience) with this wine was four years ago, so I was ready to try it again:
The bottle is open for 24 hours. Dark as ink, smells of dried strawberry, violets, a little bit of eucalyptus and wet stone (is this what is called “minerality”?), medium body, smooth in the mouth, not very sweet for a port, not hot/spirituous, in the mouth dried strawberry, violets and a little bit of wet stone, in the aftertaste violets, dried strawberry and acidity, good length (30 sec), the last two glasses that are poured have a lot of deposit (it’s truly unfiltered), I think I will decant the next bottle through my usual filter into another bottle to get rid of the deposit.
Really good Reserve Ruby. I ordered four more bottles online, hopefully none of them is corked.

I’m kind of disappointed by this wine, perhaps it’s in a closed phase at the moment?, in any case I will let my other bottle (I think I have another of the 2016 (I’m bad a keeping track of my wine cellar)) rest for a year or two more, perhaps it will pull itself together with more time.
PS: The 2016 Badia a Coltibuono Chianti Classico is much better than the 2016 Brolio and drinking beautifully right now. It might be due to a more accessible style, perhaps the Brolio simply needs more time.
