Oyster white colour with fine bubbles and quite frothy. Delicately floral on the nose. Clean and biscuity on the palate with a smooth, refreshing finish. One of my favourite champagnes.

Pale translucent red. Nose full of red berries and pomegranate. Delicate tannins on the palate with decent finish. Very quaffable at a price that wont break the bank.

A Margaux that wants to be a Pauillac. Big and booming cassis impact on nose and palate. Langorous finish. Woohoo!

Stunning corpulent Margaux. Decanted for 4 hours. Deep garnet colour. Fragrant on the nose with notes of cassis, wet sawdust and black tea. Smooth yet powerful on the palate - felt like I was tucking into a rich dark chocolate cake. And what a finish. It went on and on. Magnificent for the Chateau’s third wine. A thoroughbred, oozing class.

Delightful. Had to let it breathe first and then WOW! Smooth and dry with a hint of citrus. Reminded me of why champagne is such a treat!

Afrer 2 hours of decanting, opened up well. Inky purple red in the glass. Floral bouquet laced with cassis and strawberry aroma. Soft and dry on the palate: berries, liquorice, cashews, hints of citrus. Big, bountiful finish. Huzzah!

Ruby red hue. Pomegranate and herbaceous aromas. Elegant and velvety on the palate with alcohol at 15% very well integrated (no heat). Balanced fruit and tannins. Quite dry with medium finish. A very pleasant surprise!

They brand themselves as “summer in a bottle” and they are not far wrong. Refreshing and delightful rose from the South African couple (Koos Bekker and Karen Roos) who own the Newt in Somerset, UK. Gets a big thumbs up from me!

Surprisingly good. Decanted for 2 hours and drank at one sitting. Plummy bouquet, soft on the palate with silky tannins. Only knock is that finish could be longer. Was expecting to be underwhelmed but was impressed overall.

Elegant St Julien wine which many feel is under-rated. I have found this vintage consistently delightful. Fragrant, medium bodied, red berries infused with blue fruit. Silky from nose to finish.

I have done a fresh tasting which is causing me to alter slightly my prior assessment. Not as insipid as when tasted in 2016: this time, delicate wave of red berries swept across my palate and the finesse was palpable. Still, though, not a great value wine.

After leaving to mature in cellar, was looking forward to this tasting. Started well post decanting. Intense dark red fruit on the nose and packed a punch on the palate. Decent finish. 10-15 minute into it, took a wrong turn. High alcohol content suddenly hit and fruity intensity lost. Odd and disappointing.

Have given this another go and what a difference a few months can make! Decanted for one hour. Has softened and opened up into medium-bodied, loosely structured and easy drinking wine with reasonable finish. Redolent of plums and game. Not a superstar but enjoyable nonetheless!

Decanted for an hour. Deep garnet colour. Floral cassis nose, a little on the subdued side. Soft tannins. Dry but sumptuous fruitiness mid-palate and hot on the finish. Enjoyable even if maybe astringency on high side. Not sure it merits the accolades given by Parker...

One of the best St Julien wines I have had in a long while. Combines the elegance of a good Margaux and the power of a blue-blooded Pauillac. Inky garnet colour; strong cassis nose; dry and earthy on the palate with notes of game, truffles and tobacco. Good length on the finish. Vive la France!
