5/6/24, 1:09 PM - Thanks for the note. We tasted this wine (and then purchased) when we visited them last month and I agree that is a great young wine that will benefit from several years of patience!
5/4/24, 8:20 AM - I have 3 of these purchased as futures. We have had the 2000 alongside the 2003 twice now (most recently last month) and the 2003 was clearly the better wine each time. Having said that the 2000 Calon and most of the 2000 left bank that we have had still seem very young so I'll keep mine a few years and hope for improvement!
5/4/24, 7:58 AM - Thanks for the note DC. I Have 1 left out of 6 purchased as futures and my notes agree with yours (except for one off bottle I brought to Steamboat). I'll drink the last one this year.Cheers!
5/3/24, 10:06 AM - Thanks for the note. I have one of these, purchased long ago. Planning to open it on its 100th anniversary in 2027.
5/3/24, 1:11 PM - Fun experience for sure...how good it will be remains to be seen!
4/24/24, 10:04 AM - We opened another bottle (we still have one more) last night. Gave this one a little more air. I think this is probably near peak maturity. It is certainly drinking very well.
4/7/24, 12:12 PM - I've got 6 of these and your note about the wine having a touch of sur-maturité scares me just a little. Wondering if this was decanted and if the sur-maturité lessened over time? Thanks for the note!
4/8/24, 8:13 AM - Thanks for your reassurance!
3/30/24, 9:02 AM - Thanks for the note! Sottimano is actually in Barbaresco not Barolo. I am a big fan of their single vineyard Barbaresco's. Try a Pajore.
3/27/24, 6:35 PM - I've got 2 left so I may try another before long and give it some more air. Mine also improved some over the course of the evening. We just got back from Cabo and are going to Willamette Valley in a couple of weeks. Hope you are doing well. Cheers
3/6/24, 2:53 PM - FYI, You marked this as flawed but your notes say very good. (I am a fan of your notes)
3/8/24, 10:09 PM - I also have a couple of bottles of this and will open one this year. Thanks for the note. Cheers, Scott
2/29/24, 11:37 AM - I thought that both this and the 2001 Arrowood Reserve were drinking great. I expect the Pontet Canet to drink well for at least 5 years if not longer. Thanks again to both you and Carol for the great wines and hospitality! Let us know if you ever want to come to Nashville.
2/24/24, 11:31 AM - Motz, I always love your notes but couldn't help but notice that when you tasted the wine in November your description made me want to open a bottle and follow it over a few days but after 3 months under Coravin your score was the same but the key words that impressed me "so pure, so Margaux" and "sleek and refined palate" were nowhere to be found. Do you think 3 months under Coravin adversely affected the wine?
2/24/24, 2:38 PM - Thanks, just curious!
2/24/24, 2:43 PM - I normally wouldn't drink these so young but I have 6 so I'll have to try one soon!
2/24/24, 11:36 AM - Thanks for the confirmation. We had another half bottle in September that was just fine so I hope this is a one off experience (I revisited the following day hoping for improvement but it was just as undrinkable). I still have another half bottle and two 750's so we will see!
2/24/24, 11:12 AM - Agreed, I have a couple of bottles that were disgorged 11/18. I'll try one soon.
2/10/24, 8:42 PM - Thanks Rick, I have 3 halves left. I’ll try another one soon. Happy birthday!
2/2/24, 3:27 PM - Thanks for the note! I am a little surprised. I had one in December and it was at peak, probably still had 5 years left before what should be a long, slow decline. Bottle 10 of 12. Any idea how it was stored?
1/21/24, 9:44 PM - Mark - I am starting to drink through some of my left bank 2005's and I think the Branaire is maturing a little faster than some of the others. Great wine...this is the first of 6!My wife and I will be in Ft. Meyers from 2/6 to 2/13. If you are in town and want to meet for dinner or a glass of wine let me know. Cheers, Scott
1/15/24, 9:56 AM - Unless you are actually posting a tasting note you should use the Private Consumption Note so that everyone does not see it. Thanks!
1/11/24, 9:16 AM - Thanks for the note. It is very difficult for me to evaluate a lightly corked wine since they often show as flat. I'll have to open one soon...hopefully it won't be corked.
12/31/23, 12:09 PM - Mark, thanks for the note, especially the confirmation to give it some air. I have one left and may open it NYE.
12/30/23, 9:36 AM - One of my favorites as well. We have had 6 out of 12 bottles all purchased as futures and stored at 55 degrees. 5 were fantastic and one was corked.
12/16/23, 12:25 PM - Nice find!
11/28/23, 7:01 PM - Please just mark as such and/or record as a personal note. Should not be in the public section. Thanks!
11/25/23, 8:54 AM - Rick, who did you buy the wine from?
11/14/23, 7:29 AM - Thanks for the note, I'll wait a few years to start my case. Wondering if you opened this ahead of time and if you decanted?
11/14/23, 2:20 PM - Thanks, I will follow your advice!
11/14/23, 7:31 AM - Thanks for the note, I was going to ask about decanting as well! Cheers, Scott
10/29/23, 7:22 PM - Had my only bottle of this tonight. Beautiful Syrah!
10/27/23, 3:07 PM - Please put tasting notes not private comments in this area. Thanks!
10/20/23, 9:16 AM - Completely agree. We had our last bottle of this on Saturday and it was fantastic. Classic Pauillac.
10/12/23, 9:19 AM - Great note, thanks. I have a bottle I may open this weekend - Would you open ahead and/or decant and for how long?
10/12/23, 10:06 AM - Thanks
10/9/23, 3:39 PM - Yes, This should have the structure to age 5+ years. I may try one this weekend when we have some friends in town.
9/26/23, 9:01 PM - Completely agree DC. Very pretty bottle. Mine was disgorged 1/22 and still appeared quite young. Cheers, Scott
9/16/23, 10:08 AM - There is a separate area for notes like this that are not public tasting notes - Private Consumption Note. Thanks!
9/16/23, 10:19 AM - There is a separate area for notes like this that are not public tasting notes - Private Consumption Note. Thanks!
9/11/23, 2:33 PM - I do not think they are getting any better. This was 5 of 6 and decent for what I paid for it as futures but nothing special. I had a bottle a year or two ago that was clearly over the hill.
9/11/23, 2:37 PM - My last Monbousquet of any vintage, just not my favorite style.
9/11/23, 2:51 PM - I think that is a good rule of thumb.
9/16/23, 9:43 AM - DC -This was my 5th of 6. All but 1 have been fine so hopefully your last bottle (and mine) will be good as well!
9/9/23, 8:28 AM - Thanks for the note! I just brought a number of 2008's including this one home from long term storage. I was wondering if you decanted the wine and where you think it is in its drinking window? Thanks!
9/11/23, 7:41 AM - Thanks, I'll try one soon.
9/1/23, 9:01 AM - One of my favorite 2003's as well. I've gone through 15 of 18 (purchased as futures) over the last decade and they have all been outstanding. I give them a shorter decant now and will probably finish my last 3 over the next 5 years.
9/9/23, 2:29 PM - I bought 10 cases from about a dozen different properties as futures based primarily on Parker's review. He suggested that there were 2 dozen great wines and a lot of mediocre wine. The vintage was early maturing and a bit on the ripe side for sure but I have been extremely pleased with Branaire-Ducru, Léoville Poyferré, Clos Fourtet, Duhart-Milon, Calon-Ségur, Léoville Barton, Smith Haut Lafitte, Sociando-Mallet and d'Armailhac. I am down to my last 20 bottles - mostly Pontet-Canet, Leoville Barton and Leoville Poyferre.
8/26/23, 8:30 AM - Nice note Charles, Thanks!
8/26/23, 8:12 AM - I read your note on this and given our shared experience with the 2017 Domaine Guillemot-Michel Viré-Clessé Quintaine I figured I had better open this one immediately. Luckily this was fine...I have one left which I will open soon!
7/8/23, 3:43 PM - Too bad, the first one was excellent. I have one left which I will drink at home soon and hope for the best.
8/4/23, 12:23 PM - We had our last bottle yesterday and it was very good with no oxidization issues.
8/4/23, 2:41 PM - Agreed, I commented on this in a Wine Berzerkers thread and got a very thoughtful response from Gautier Roussille an oenologist and part of the family that owns the winery. We exchanged a few PMs and he said they may had a problem with corks of that vintage with an HD on it (mine did). They use low sulfer so would also be more sensitive to oxidization. He also offered to replace the bottle if ever I visit. All in I thought that they gave a reasonable explanation. That said, I have 4 2020's so I hope I don't have any issues with them. Hope your last bottle is good!
8/5/23, 7:56 AM - If you do please report back!Cheers
8/6/23, 9:15 AM - Glad it was good. Now I am on to my 2020's!
8/9/23, 1:18 PM - Mostly Chablis for me as well. Cheers
7/31/23, 12:28 PM - One of my favorites, I think that they are one of the best producers in the price range.
8/2/23, 12:43 PM - I was going to suggest another vintage until I saw your post on the BB that you bought 2021!
8/4/23, 9:32 AM - I haven't tasted 2021's at all. From what I have read it is not a great vintage. I would focus on 2020's - they are excellent.
7/15/23, 2:29 PM - Thanks for the note Mark. I have not tried any of my 2005 PC but for my palate some of the left bank 2005's are just now starting to show some maturity. Might have to give one a try this year!
7/16/23, 1:50 PM - Rick and Nancy are great! He is right, We love Bordeaux and it is about 45% of my cellar. Some of our best friends are big PC fans and we drink a lot of it with them. Maybe we will do a vertical of 2000, 2003, 2004 and 2005 and report back. If ever you get to Nashville let me know!
7/17/23, 7:44 AM - Mark, that would be great let me know. DQ, it would be great to get together as a group or if you are in town. We travel quite a bit as well so I will let you guys know if we get down your way.
7/13/23, 1:08 PM - Thanks for the note! I took a look and saw that they used 60% new oak, certainly less than the 100% treatment some wines get.
7/9/23, 11:16 AM - Thanks for the note. I suspected that these need time. The 2016 Cavallotto Nebbiolo's are just now coming around.
7/7/23, 8:02 AM - I almost opened a bottle of this last night based on your review. We ended up going in a different direction for dinner but I will try one soon. Thanks, Scott
7/2/23, 11:47 AM - Not sure what you meant by "More of everything than the Giscours". Isn't this a note for the 2015 Giscours?
7/2/23, 11:51 AM - Not sure what you meant by "More of everything than the Giscours". Isn't this a note for the 2015 Giscours?
5/2/23, 10:25 AM - Thanks for your report Mark, I am glad to hear the high praise! Great vineyard, great winemaker.I don't buy a lot of Napa these days (mostly old world) but bought a couple of these at auction recently because I still remember the La Jota Cab Francs from the mid 90's made by Helen Turley. Absolutely the best Cab Franc I ever had from California.
4/1/23, 2:13 PM - I think you are right about this wine needing more time. Cavallotto's 2016 Nebiolo is still improving.
2/2/23, 12:46 PM - Thanks for the note. The 1987 was always my favorite until the 1997 took over 6-7 years ago. I have 1 bottle of the 1997 left, I'll have to try it soon.
12/30/22, 4:45 PM - Thanks for the update. I've got 6 of these that I bought as futures...$22.75. I think I may start on them in the next couple of years depending on your notes!
12/30/22, 9:59 AM - What does "Bachman" mean??? It should be a tasting note for public consumption.
12/29/22, 2:58 PM - Thanks for the note, I never posted publicly on these but I agree that it is a beautiful bottle of wine and a steal to boot!
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
