4/29/24, 9:04 AM - so what's with the stingy score then Neil? ;)
2/20/24, 9:01 AM - exactly the same experience had with a bottle last week. was all a bit average and uninsiping.Hopefully a dumb phase but I only opened a bottle previous to this a couple of months back that was good
12/14/22, 12:54 AM - Nice note - good to hear it’s singingJust 2 bottles left for me too :(Think you’ve scored it wrong with 81 ;)
11/20/22, 9:14 AM - Good to see your positive note on this as I’m still holding onto a mag of the 15 & 16Drink up or no rush?
11/20/22, 9:51 AM - Thanks Neil - good to knowNow I just have to invite over some people who’d appreciate it
11/1/22, 1:23 PM - What kind of spice is that? 😂
9/29/22, 10:14 AM - Hi MichelI appreciate people have their own scoring systems but do you rate this as an average/below average wine ? Your note doesn’t quite sound like it lines up with the rating scale that is meant to be used on CT: https://support.cellartracker.com/article/49-tasting-nites-and-ratingsJust clarifying if the score is skewed.CheersMike
10/16/22, 7:28 AM - Good to know. Your note is indeed useful - just a shame for you that it didn’t live up to your expectations. Just part of the ups and downs of the world of wine I guess :)
9/5/22, 1:49 PM - useful note thanks John. I take it your 2012 was under screwcap ?
9/6/22, 1:16 AM - I've been drinking them since 2007 vintage and still have a bottle (stelvin closure) that I'm holding on to, along with a couple of 2008s that I think have cork closure.I stopped buying it from 2014 vintage though as I started to find it was a little too hard and heavy for my palate and the screwcaps seemed to keep them locked in their youthful state that you have to hold on an age for them to show as they did on day 3 for you. With the winter months approaching it'll be time to revisit a 2012 with a good decant by the sounds of things
6/8/22, 3:23 AM - Indeed, it was a real pleasure. Well worth opening a bottle if you have some. Unfortunately I only have one bottle remaining from my case. Will have to hunt for some more
5/28/22, 7:00 AM - Is it the drinking of musar when camping that makes it glamping? :)due to be in a tent this week but hadn't planned to pack such quite distinguished bottles, maybe I'll have to reassess...
3/22/22, 5:34 AM - Useful note thanks. Did you PnP or decant?I'm planning on taking a Mag to a dinner next week and was planning on double decanting the night before
3/26/22, 12:18 AM - thanks for coming back - Sorry, I hadn't picked up that your TN was from 6yrs ago, I thought it had come up as one of the more recent ones in the list :) really appreciate you still trying to assist though. Chapeau
1/4/22, 12:56 PM - Nick, was this the base Cuvee PB (~£9.99) or the "Grand cuvee" PB (~£19.99) ? Majestic replaced an 01 Musar I ordered with a bottle of the 15 GC. I'm interested to give it a try to see how it compares, especially as the 01 mooses I've had so far have been a little underwhelming
1/4/22, 1:24 PM - Cheers. I’ll give it a go in the not too distant future and post a note on here and WP
12/29/21, 2:24 PM - You’re lucky to have had some sublime ones. I’m resigning myself to all my 01s being the thin versions unfortunately. Hoping I might luck out with a single bottle I bought from another store
10/11/21, 3:24 AM - A similar experience had by myself last night with the 2009 vintage
10/11/21, 1:41 AM - Yeah, I figure that’s the case but there seem to be so many reviews on CT that rave about it already. Different palates I guess or possible bottle variance.... it should come good
4/15/21, 2:50 PM - based on the final parts of Andy's comments I'd agree with Tannintastic to think it sounds like he's talking about Arana which shifted to GR status from the 2012 vintage
3/28/21, 2:11 PM - All my 2002 corks have been shocking. Buy a butlers thief/ah-so 2 prong opener has been a game changer. Definitely worth buying for these corks. No more fishing/filtering out bits of crumbled cork from your wine
2/3/21, 5:59 AM - I'm starting to wonder about bottle/case variation for this wine because my experience was very similar to yours. I had high hopes having read so many gushing reviews but TNs seem to either say its great or lacklustre. I've had other vintages which I've enjoyed but my first bottle of 10s was disappointing. It may be that I didnt give it enough time to open though as is was pretty much a pnp
12/31/20, 4:05 AM - I can tolerate oak, often enjoying the additional dimension it brings but this was way too much even sitting decantered for a couple of hours.I’ve enjoyed 04 & 07 bottlings of Ardanza, so hope this is just a case of bottle variation or that it will improve as it integrates. I’ve got 08 & 09 in mag formats to try when we’re allowed to mix in groups again so will see how they’re showing perhaps
1/3/21, 12:22 AM - It had a 2hr decant in a wide bowl decanter which I’d have thought would have done it some good. 20 bottles already?! Sounds like you have a good amount of experience these :)I’d have never thought to give it a 12+hr decant for fear of it going acidic. I’ll bear that in mind next time thx
10/24/20, 12:36 PM - Best CT name <doffs cap>
10/21/20, 2:50 PM - Great note Christopher. Very helpful as I’ve yet to open my 14s but will hold off for a while longer based on your insightful note and experience other 14 vintages I have tried so far
9/30/20, 11:09 AM - EP price in the U.K. was £27.50 a bottle so ~€30 and $35 before taxes
9/21/20, 3:05 PM - Cheers Yassine. I’ve seen them in action and they do look good. Other than my Musars, my cellar is a bit to young at the moment to justify paying out that sort of cost for a corkscrew....but likely to get one in future when the bottles start to get olderCheersMike
5/27/20, 7:47 AM - cheers Nick, this is v useful. I take it yours was a 75cl ? I've a mix of halves and wholes from this vintage but I've recently been drinking 02 on halves, which apart from very crumbly corks is drinking well. Sounds like I'll give an 03 a crack for a side by side some time soon.Mike
5/11/20, 2:01 PM - Glad I made the effort to translate your TN. Very good and informative write up Mali. ThanksMike
5/12/20, 5:26 AM - Cheers Mali.I’ve got 12 sat in bond waiting for a couple of years while I make space in the wines stored at home.Mike
3/23/20, 1:00 AM - I think it has been the luck of the draw. I spoke to some of the Carbonnieux team at a bdx tasting last year and they admitted there had been challenges with closures for previous vintages and they had changed the corks they were using in more recent vintages to fix things.Glad to hear your half dozen have all been enjoyable. It’s a very good drop when it’s in correct condition
1/7/20, 4:15 PM - I take it you haven’t got round to trying it yet Peter?I picked up 6 today so hoping to open one in the near futureMike
12/23/19, 9:14 AM - Seems to be a running theme with the 2010 “roulette”. Such a shame because when it’s on point is very good but more are showing ox’d than those that aren’t.Bad batch of corks perhaps
11/5/19, 3:04 PM - Nice note and nice find for a fiver !I picked mine up for £10 having tried it before on another vintage but should still be pleased at that price
9/30/19, 2:07 PM - Nice to follow 2016 updates Jeff. I’ve bought TSC 16, 17 & 18s purely on your say so. Looking forward to give them a try in the future
10/1/19, 10:47 PM - Thanks for the suggestion Jeff, but finding a single of the 2015 in London is as rare as rocking horse poop! I’ve yet to come across any local indy selling singles and shipping costs found online from other parts of the U.K. adds ~30% to the cost of a single bottle. Was hopi g they’d make an appearance at one of the bdx tastings I’ve been to this year but sadly nada. Will keep hunting around in the meantime
11/4/19, 11:00 PM - Wow that’s a great find Joe! What’s that about $8 saving?I don’t hold much hope for Costco Uk stocking this but if they do I’ll be down there pretty snappy for a few more if it’s a similar price
11/2/19, 2:48 AM - Great TN John. Take it yours was from a stelvin closure? I’ve got a couple left with cork seals so keen to hear how these are going
11/2/19, 7:09 AM - Cheers John. Good to hear that the cork closure is doing well
9/9/19, 9:01 AM - Very useful not thanks and seems similar experience for me with this wine, particularly on the dilute finish. I only managed to pick up 2 remaining bottles so not the end of the world. Do you think the improvement with air might mean these could be better at a later date or just needs a while to breath before approaching ?I think the 2010 L'Anclaie that M&S used to stock may possibly be a better find if any appear on shelves.
9/11/19, 9:34 AM - likely to be even cheaper today if they still have any. M&S seems to be wiping out all their sticky/sherry/port stocks right now. Some lucky folks out there picking up some real bargains
7/25/19, 5:02 AM - At a recent tasting I was speaking to a representative of Carbonnieux who said that for the recent vintages they have changed the type of cork they use which will reduce the frequent instances of prem ox that we’ve seen in the 2010s.I’m guessing it still made for a good sauce for the mussels at least?
4/14/19, 2:18 PM - Was yours cork or stelvin closure?
4/15/19, 11:35 PM - Cheers Gin. I’ve got a couple left but they’re cork closure so will be interesting to see how they’re holding up in comparison.Mike
4/12/19, 8:14 PM - Thanks Jeff re heads up on 2018. I was about to ask if you’d tried it yet because I had heard it’s on par with and possibly even better than the 16sLooking forward to seeing your reviews on the 18s EP
4/14/19, 1:24 AM - Cheers Jeff. Imagine it has been a busy couple of weeks. Look forward to seeing your TNsThxMike
2/26/19, 10:52 PM - Your score is a typo I guess as previously you’ve given 91s ?
9/2/18, 12:10 PM - I’ve been sitting on the solitary bottle of this I have based on other reviews. Do you think holding on might improve things or just best to drink it now and see what I think?
9/3/18, 4:52 AM - Cheers Neecies. Appreciate you coming back. I’ll continue to hold for now then and look out for other TNs in future. The Tahbilk Marsanne isn’t a wine you commonly come across at many wine merchants/retailers in the UK from my experience unless you specifically look for it online. I happened to find a single bottle some years back on a bin end shelf so picked it up to try.Interested to give it a try but plenty to get through in the meantime so no rush if it’s best to hold for now.CheersMike
8/6/18, 9:17 AM - ha, very true - that's often my view on sparkling wine too. But sometimes when you're sat out in the sun, a chilled bottle of rosé sitting in an icebag is just what the doctor ordered, no food needed.
7/25/18, 2:33 PM - Couldn’t agree more. A very disappointing wine. As sacrilegious as it sounds I’m thinking about using this for blending with a flabby white to see if there’s any potential use for anything other than plug hole cleaner
7/3/18, 6:19 AM - Interesting as sounds very similar to my experience. I have 6 more bottles so will have to keep my fingers crossed that they are more like your 2nd rather than our first ones!
7/3/18, 5:24 AM - did you open it shortly after lying down/transporting it ?I've found it to be similar in the fine sediment making the wine a bit murky but if you stand the bottle for 24hrs before serving it settles at the bottle to pour a lot clearerMike (also from SE12)
7/2/18, 10:41 AM - I couldn't agree more. A great wine that still continues to improve with age.Just a shame is less easily available in the UK now.
6/1/18, 5:38 AM - Do you mean better than it's white ?
6/1/18, 5:59 AM - good to hear :-) Very useful tasting note thanks. I bought a solitary bottle that was sitting in a shop last week but have since been thinking about purchasing a case. It's not chateau I've tried before but sounds like it's worth picking up more.
6/1/18, 2:33 PM - Thanks. I’ll keep an eye out for them.Mike
5/30/18, 1:10 AM - Excellent and informative tasting note. ThanksI was due to open my bottle of this over the weekend but didn’t get round to it. It’ll definitely be on my shortlist over the coming weeks now.
3/22/18, 11:24 AM - good to know Nick. so you're suggesting to drink up by 2022 ?
3/22/18, 10:04 AM - Do you expect to see any improvements from holding on to it ? what would you recommend as drinking window if so ?
3/22/18, 9:57 AM - I fully agree. I have just the one left after cracking a bottle open last week. Lovely stuff! I wish I had more
11/29/17, 9:18 AM - So do you reckon to drink this up over the next year then Kevin? Think its just you and I with the CT holdings of this wine - it's a shame Co-op don't stock this or many other fine wines they used to a few years back.
11/3/17, 8:32 AM - Hi Frans, your Musar reviews/wine look like they registered under either the wrong Musar wine or wrong vintage. The grand vin (Chateau Musar) isn't released until at least 7 years after vintage and the current vintage release is 2006 (previously was 2009), so if you're drinking 2011/12 vintages you're probably drinking/reviewing one of the following?:Hochar Père et Fils Red (https://www.cellartracker.com/list.asp?Table=List&iUserOverride=0&fInStock=0&Wine=Chateau+Musar+Hochar+P%E8re+%26+Fils#selected%3DW2816950_1_Kccac6286a872da5a5d30ffc195325a6e)Musar Jeune (https://www.cellartracker.com/list.asp?Table=List&iUserOverride=0&fInStock=0&Wine=Chateau+Musar+Musar+Jeune+Red#selected%3DW2704024_1_K074631202b9359fb31ee88e57e02fd290)cheersMike
6/27/17, 5:07 AM - Very useful tasting note John. Based on previous vintages, I couldn't agree with you more. This is probably the best QPR dessert wine I've come across which punches well above its weight.Mike
6/26/17, 6:34 AM - Ich stimme sehr mit Ihrem Hinweis. Ich war ein wenig enttäuscht von der 2006 Jahrgang haben es wirklich genossen die 2004 in der Vergangenheit.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
