PnP and drank throughout the day. On the nose - dried fruit, bitter herbs, and slightly musty. On the palate - plum, dried herb, leather. Nice molasses-like sweetness. Soft, smooth tannins; however the body felt out of balance.

Tonight’s bottle restores my faith in this wine; the previous bottle showed aged/raisined fruit, but tonight we are back on the beam. With all due respect to the much lauded 2006, this has long been my favorite Produttori normale, and both my wife and I really enjoyed this paired up with fresh bread and cheese, not to mention a little pesto from Claudio’s 🍷👍

Opened several hours early; double-decanted for sediment about an hour before tasting. Attractive dried floral nose with some mature notes of beef bouillon and a hint of soy. Really lovely medium plus bodied palate with flavors that follow the nose. Easily the star of our lineup today. This sat in a wide bodied glass for several hours and became more mature tasting yet stern over time, so take care not to over-decant unless you have some animal fat on your plate. Not sure where this stands with respect to the peak, but it seems open for business with the aforementioned caveat.

I'm drinking this with the 2010 tonight - I had this exact pairing last year and had a clear preference for this wine (and even remarked in my previous note about the wine's continued ability to age), but tonight this bottle has a prune note on the nose that is distracting. Not to the point of maderization, but if this was your only bottle, a worrisome development. It's actually pretty delicious on the palate, but today it's finishing a clear second to the 2010, which is the exact reverse of my opinion last year when I had these two wines.
Still going strong. Drank straight from opening and delivered right away. No signs of going downhill the next couple of years. Impressive from an entry barbaresco.

As we approach this wine's 20th birthday, no signs whatsoever of any fatigue. Gorgeous red fruit & menthol on the nose, tart red fruit and good acidity on the palate and just a pleasure to drink.
I’m a fan. Drinking beautifully. Opened 6 hours in advance. Very classic rose, red fruit and mild tar nose. Light bodied yet full of flavor. Impactful yet not overly complex. Would be a great example for a Barbaresco 101 class. Great dinner wine with porcini risotto. (91)

Red fruits, rose petals & tar on the nose. Good acidity on the palate, tart red fruit - very likable, and similar in terms of aging profile with my previous note in April, '21. If you have this in the cellar and haven't tried it recently, do yourself a favor and check out a bottle.
A terrific wine with food, a bit flat without it. On its own, the fruit is subtle and faint, with more herbal and tertiary notes. With food (in this case a pork loin) some nice cherry and red fruit mid palate came through before giving away to the more herbal notes.

Lively color with serious bricking. Great classic nose of tar and earth. Nice acidity gives it lift as well as digestability. Time to drink up, though, as its tannins are slightly drying out.

Off this bottle, I think the wine is now sitting squarely on it's plateau of maturity. No longer drinking young, but with plenty of time in front of it as well. Good acidity to provide some lift on the palate, nice persistence, with some tertiary notes starting to show on the nose. I know I've said this before, but you really wonder how Produttori is able to stuff so much wine enjoyment into such a modestly priced bottle. This is probably the red wine analog of Pepiere's Clos des Briords in that regard.

This has developed nicely over the years. It has shed its tannic clout and has turned into a mellow wine of contemplation. Starts to get a browny rim although retaining a certain amount of freshness thanks to nice acidity. All components have created a cohesion one could only hope for. Great stuff to accompany food with earthy flavours such as a mushroom risotto or to savour on its own by the fireside.

I haven't tried this in a couple years. Gorgeous nose, with ripe cherry fruit, tar & menthol.
Light-bodied on the palate, tannins mostly resolved at this point, good acidity & persistence. 15+ years after the vintage and really in the zone - when you think about the purchase price, hard to fathom how they put this level of quality in the bottle.

Showed a bit pruny at first, disjointed and hot. Harmonized after an hour (no decanting) but is, and this shouldn’t be a surprise, way too young. I suspect it will never be a great wine, but it’s a good wine that couldn’t be mistaken for anything other than quality young northern Italian Nebbiolo.

3rd of 3 bottles. This wine was in perfect condition, but on the slow decline. Stewed tomato, tart red cherries, menthol, beautifully integrated and mature.

A bit ho-hum, lacking any great perfume and having quite a simple cherry-led palate with some mushroom emerging. Tannins still of decent intensity and nicely refreshing acidity, however I'm not convinced that the fruit is going to last the course.
Based on the EUR20 price at the time, it's decent enough value, but I do expect a little more from even the standard bottling.

Really good vintage for this wine. Doesn't hurt that its at peak either. Structured and still packing some power. No heat tho. Menthol, dark cherry, roses, black tea. Seriously amazing qpr. I prefer this to a lot of the recent vintages i have had. No contest there.

Wow. Did not decant. There was not a lot of sediment. Aired in glass for about an hour. This wine is in a great place. Quite vibrant acidity which made it good with bolognese sauce, but it was really beautiful on its own after dinner. Lots of earthy mineral flavors (perhaps some hints of juniper?) with red berry fruit. Clean and smooth. A terrific bottle!

This Produttori was brought to Boca and enjoyed with dinner in celebration of our 21st wedding anniversary. It was a beautiful, elegant, feminine wine, replete with tertiary aromas and flavors, sour cherry pit, tobacco, menthol, and wet soil. The acid spine showed through, giving substantial energy and lift to the sour red and black fruits. The tannins were mostly resolved, but gave a beautiful astringent bite on the long and tart finish. Delicious. Drink now through 2019+.

We bought a new Uumi pizza oven - steep learning curve but a truly remarkable oven. We made Pizza Margherita to which we added prosciutto. The pairing could not have been better. The wine is exactly what it should be - a few years of life left but who cares. Today it's perfect. Menthol and cherries on the nose, pie cherry, tea and menthol in the mouth finishing clean and sharp. The finish lingers so pleasantly finally resolving to a tannic cherry and a hint of menthol. There are no missteps - as stated, it is exactly what it should be at 12.

Modestly expressive nose--iron, black licorice, a bit of mushroom. Really enjoyable on the palate--solid acid, strong but not over-bearing sweet tannins, licorice, dark fruit, well balanced. Near or at peak and should be delicious for years.

Slow-oxed for 6 hours prior to serving. A beautiful and classic midweight barbaresco at the early stage of maturity, remarkable for its detail and finesse. The wine's moderate structure keeps its push fruit light in the mouth and in balance. Great PQR and highly enjoyable.

Decated 1hr, last bottle of 3, 1st tasted in 2008, then 2012, this bottle is certainly the best of the 3. Red fruit, coffee, truffles, cedar, herbs, earthy, light tannins, simple but good balance. Drink soon!

Delicate red fruits, mountain herbs, subtle tobacco. More on the feminine spicy side than brawny, tarry side of Neb. Medium weight, open knit, fruit is still relatively fresh, acidity is integrated. Tannins do appear on the finish, but, hey, this is Nebbiolo, not Pinot. Good stuff, very civilized.

Quite delicate and light on it's feet, this seems fully mature; certainly in the feminine side of Piemonte (as it should be) with some tar, smokey, meaty notes and a pretty little red fruit. This is not Grand Vin, for still a very civilized glass, perfectly matured and in balance. #50&jetlagged.

This needs serious aeration if you're going to get involved now. It felt entirely backwards and murky upon opening, musty almost. Now almost at the end of day 2 it is singing, fresh and clear fruit, typical nebbiolo tar and dried roses, and maybe some iron-like minerality. It's a bit hot. But it's very lovely.

A definite tawny colour - ruby core, bricking rim but overall a dark tawny - winey nose, leather, forest floor - palate offers a bit more fruit, dried cherry - very dry, much better w food as is the case w most Italian wine - a bit dried out, glad I opened it now, I don't think that time will allow the tannins to fade while allowing enough fruit to stay - 89/3*/Mmm/15.50.

I have had several and they have all been excellent. I bought quite a bit, but not nearly enough at $23 upon release, really screwed up. Young with a long life ahead, but delicious now. I rarely post multiple reviews on the same wine, but outstanding quality at this price. Would be happy to drink it once a month for I would predict many more years so this should have been a MULTIPLE case purchase. Don't get me wrong, this isn't complex, mind blowing Barbaresco, but it sure is enjoyable AND it was under $23.

Piercing aromas of cherry, leather, mahogany, and limestone. Medium bodied with the right amount of sweetness on the midpalate. Some tannins persist on the fresh, saline finish. Coming together very nicely (Drink now to 2020).

Stubborn wine - takes a lot of coaxing to get any fruit to the front. Pretty austere and tight on day 1 with P&P. Day 2 took on a soapy charecteristic on nose but blew off after an hour. Pretty nice for next hour and fruit came out. I like this style but can see how many would be turned off. Can see this getting a tad better with time but don't wait too long.

My good friend Larry brought this wine to my house for dinner...and asked me to guess the wine, blind. The color was so very light ruby, with a significant tawny rim, showing some age. I immediately thought of Pinot Noir or Nebbiolo due to this color. On the nose, the wine was very restrained, not offering up much in the way of fruit...but it was definitely a serious wine, with soil and tobacco notes, some medicinal quality, and a tart red fruit profile in the background. Thinking old world for sure. The palate showed a med(-) bodied wine, with all the component parts in nice balance, showing fairly light tannins (but the bottle was just opened...this may change with air), the tannins were astringent and beautifully integrated. There is med+ acidity, fantastic structure, great soil-driven terroir and minerals/rocks. Just delicious, fruit-backward, I love it. My guess was a 2000-2005 Barolo or Barbaresco. Nailed it! This wine is drinking beautifully now, but will last through 2020 or maybe longer...I will assess the remainder of the bottle after it slow-ox's overnight in the cellar to see how it handles the air.

Paired with roasted red garlic marinara sauce and fresh three cheese tortolini. Fresh bread and cheese. 3.5 hour decant. Pristine cork. Tawny rim to leather center color. Faint smell of potpourri. More body than most Nebbiolo I've tried, but still thinnish. Acidic entry. What little fruit there was to start quickly vanishes to leave a nearly flavorless filmy, acidic residue with a faint resemblance to acetone. Short finish just drops off a cliff. Yet I'm convinced this isn't flawed. The longer I worked this over and the more I focused on it after dinner, the more convinced I became that this just isn't very good. 79
P/P (a mistake): good nose of dried roses and cherry; medium body and somewhat lean fruit with good acidity; this has not filled in much but it has good typicity. I liked this more than others.

What gives? This felt mature and rounded or in a dumb closed phase. The fruit has faded leaving dried roses and toffee/aged tawny like remnants. Hardly enough to induce a chub. Also I don't see this going another 10+ minutes, let alone 10+ yrs. Disappointing.

Opened at noon, decanted, and approached with a vibe of empathy and respect. And yet the wine was tough as nails, tannic, not forthright, constricted. Even 8 hours in. There is quality here - there are moments when the fruit shows clear and pure, and it is lovely. There are hints of mushroom and herbs on the nose too. This was in a better place to drink several years ago though, and I think wants to sleep for another 10 years at a minimum.

Decanted for 45 mins, should have been longer. Starting to open up and show notes of red cherry, iron, perhaps a bit of rose petal on the nose. The palate is full of tannins, red cherry tastes, good acidity. Still feels very young at 10 years, could sit in the cellar for a long while more.
And indeed, after another 30 mins, with dinner, the wine opens up beautifully, with the rose petals strengthening, the palate becoming more full-bodied. An excellent wine now, but remember to decant well in advance!

Red center (darker than expected), paler red rim with clear signs of age. Spicy plums, vinous, smooth animal fur, some classic tar and resin. Smooth, good tannins, tart cherries, roses, a little peach pit, good acid, delicate finish of strawberries and cherries (a little Pinotish), some stalkiness, good length. Drinking well now at 10 years old, best with food, will probably improve a little over the next 3 years and last for a few more beyond.

Beautiful if not terribly complex. Brick red color throughout. The nose is quite strong and beautiful with lots of tobacco and earth, hints of floral (wife says not, so maybe the power of nebiollo suggestion?), hints of red berry. The palate is more limited with just the tobacco and earth. Nicely balanced with a long smooth finish.

First opened this on 23rd December and found it closed and unyielding, lack in fruit or body. Same again next night for another glass or two. Didn't get to finish the bottle before Xmas break: about one third was left with the cork bunged in. Cautiously sniffed and tasted on Jan. 6 before consigning for cooking and was amazed there was no trace of oxidation and in fact had finally opened up and tasted much better than on the first two occasions.

I found this wine over-extracted. There was fruit, but it seemed to have a heavy cloak covering it up. Flavor was dull, not bright. The freshness I have come to expect from a really good Barbaresco just wasn't there.

From a new Riedel Sommelier Burg glass (first pour Vinturied). Initially tart and bright cherry aromas with spice, talcum, light florals. On the palate tart, borderline sour cherry, sweet spices. Then with more air this kept changing. Became a darker, blacker fruit profile, with anise and Asian spices unveiling, and the texture becoming intriguingly more complex with tingly tannins overtaking the acidity. Then seemed to flatten out and florals and red fruit returning along with some bitter earth prevailing on the palate. Overall a very interesting and rewarding bottle, though perhaps a bit too mercurial (not VA though) for some I suppose. 89-90+

Decanted 1hr, it is hard to believe that is has been nearly 4 years since I last tasted this. One of the many reason I love CT is the time stamp on tasting notes. This certainly has fully intergrated in 4 years, with tart cherry, cranberries, dry finish, lacks complexity. Based on this bottle ready to drink!

Pop and pour and followed over 7 hours. Decanted 1/2 of the bottle and tasted with dinner and then later. Light in color. Nose of ripe berries and some cedar and redwood notes. A bit tart and light. Somewhat hollow. Ripe berries and spice with bright acidity but lacking in depth.

A really solid performer. Quite ready to drink and evolved nicely in the glass over an hour. Still some dry tannins in the back, but the nose is fabulous and classic - tar, roses, coffee and old leather - while the palate is smooth with ripe red fruit and just the right amount of acidity. I will attempt to buy more of this...

Bought it from the Produttori, stopped by in Barbaresco on the way from Bern to Nice. After opening quite closed nose, some leather, needs some rest and air. On the second day smell improved, opened up a bit. Present but smooth tannins, dark fruit on the lighter side, a bit short for a Barbaresco.

Nice young nebbiolo. Lots of potential but showing very young. Decanted and followed over 4 hours. Thanksgiving fare was not the best pairing choice to showcase the wine, but it worked nonetheless. Tannic backbone is still there and the dark fruit seems reserved. Couldn't really assess the nose in a room full of Turkey, pumpkin pie, stuffing, etc. Good weight on the palate and nice complex length, just not really coming out to play yet.

Per my taste, this is a lovely wine. Lot 7.138. Brick red. The bouquet is a complex perfume of dried cherry, tar, cedar and spice. Very little oak showing. Very fresh red fruit on the palate with elegance and length. Not a heavy or big wine, but plenty of flavor and body. Juicy, high acid in the very best way. Lingering finish with persistent minerality. Tannic as Nebbiolo should be, yet refined, elegant structure. For me this shows very well at present, and has the freshness and structure to justify laying down. This is why I drink wine, in short, it's complete with all components in harmony.

Lovely wine, still too young, great fruit and lots of acid and tannin, it absolutely needs a substantial meal to show its stuff. In a good year like 2004 this wine will not reach the heights of many other Barbarescos, as the best fruit went in to their single vineyard bottlings. But it is very nice and has a long and rewarding future ahead.

What I know about Barbaresco wouldn't fill a tastevin. Clear ruby/brick red. Lots of cherry on the nose with a bit of iron. Plenty of straightforward cherry flavor; some pretty grippy tannins, though sturdy fare tames them. Nice wine.

Delicious, rich and still young. The nose was dusty and dark red fruit with flowery overnotes. In the mouth the tannins had tons of grip and the bold acidity underlying held up a profile that started with gentle fruit and built toward darker and richer fruit before tailing off on a moderately long finish.

Precocious and juicy, in fact it should say "juicy" on its sequined bottom like a fashion statement, or was that just some unwelcome flashback from my last visit to the Livingston Mall? Nose really attractive crushed red berries, leather, and red licorice. If I have a knock on this it's that it's just a little too joyful (am I just confirming my inner curmudgeon or what?), at least at this stage. Actually, I think it's more a tribute to the '04 vintage in Piedmont and the skill of this venerable institution in cranking out large volumes of highly drinkable and interesting wines. To get all Bond-like, you might even say that at these quantities nobody does it better, which of course at the heart is a parity claim, but geez, that's just a little creepy and CPG of me. Ok, the real knock is the finish, which comes up just a tick short although it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't improve over the next few years, though hopefully not at the expense of the sexy fruit. If the sweet and unrepentant ripeness without excess reflects global warming, then all I can say is bring it on, Mama I'm sure hard to handle, yes I ram. Or perhaps more appropriately, Katie White's "Shut up and let me go..."

Good deep color, transparent. Aromatic nose of cherry, rose, raspberry, woodsmoke, and minerals. The palate is medium full, very elegant for a basic bottling with good persistent sweet fruits, char/smoke, and minerals. The finish is well balanced and very long, the ripe tannins are just about integrated, excellent cleansing acidity.
Overraskende lite utviklet på farge, med tynn vandig kant. Røde bær, svakt tobakk, roser. Befriende frisk, markjordbær. Behagelige tanniner (drukket uten mat). Fin syre, gode lengde. Meget god vin.

Decanted for 4 hours - don't pop and pour this wine yet as it needs more time. Relatively thin, reddish color. Black cherry on the nose. On the palate, no holes from the beginning to the finish with highlights of black cherry & herbs (rosemary). Tannins are noticeable on the finish (it's Nebbiolo) but are well integrated with the wine. High acidity makes this a great food wine (very balanced with food) and with time, will be fine on it's own. Great entry level Barbaresco. Would buy again.

At first rather tight nose with rose petals and bright fruit of cherries, rashberries - maybe a bit of cranberries too. The fruit turned a little darker as time past by. On the palate quite light and soft but elegant and very balanced with persistant red fruit and rustic flavours - maybe and tiny hollow mid-palate. Soft to firm tannins on the back with a classic sour medium finish. Not perfect but surely a seriously enjoyable wine and hard to find a better barbaresco at this price point! Drinking weel now with a few hours in the decanter but will properly last and improve another 5-7 years. 89+

Austere upon open and not especially yielding, even with air. Though perhaps not the deepest fruit, this is beautifully made and seems likely to age gracefully. Sour cherry with notes of roses, tar and balsa wood. One of the better recent "normales" from Produttori.

Tightened up considerably since this summer. Wondered on day one if the bottle was flawed in some way in light of the huge difference in performance compared with just a few months ago. However, on day 3 it was slightly more approachable and delivered some drinking pleasure but it is probably entering a dormant phase and I am going to keep my hands off my remaining bottles for a while.

Showing a bright ruby core with a pale pink rim at the edge of the glass and no signs of bricking. The nose of this wine gives off scents of vibrant red fruits, tar and a hint of roses and lime at the tail end. In the mouth there are still some gripping tannins initially that give way to red fruits and medium acidity along a medium-long finish that offers a melange of red fruits and a rustic character.

Had this wine a year ago and it was overwhelmed by brooding tannins. Surprisingly, it has opened up very nicely. Suspect it will continue to improve for a couple years, but I would not hesitate to pop one of these now.

Took about an hour to open up and then began drinking very nicely. A slight amount of tannin but not distracting. Good acidity. A hint of rose petals and tar, dark fruit. Nice drink with oven roasted chicken.

Surprisingly open for business compared to the 2003 that was much tighter at this stage. Nose slightly subdued and doesn't reveal much of what is to come on the palate. Light red berry scents with a rosy perfume whiff. The palate is very elegant with raspberries as the primary impression. Very clean, elegant and fresh and quite enjoyable to drink already despite its young age. 90+

Light red color, pink/orange rim (the color is so light it could seem a dark rose'). The nose is an explosion of raspberry, italian crema and pine cones. Full bodied, well integrated tannins. Smooth texture, as it opens up it delivers also balsamic notes. Impressive Barbersco for the $$

Decanted for an hour. Not giving much on the nose. Very approachable from the get go. Tannins are rather soft for a 5-year old barbaresco. Very masculine wine. Tar, meat with a nice dose of dried cherries. A bit hollow in the middle initially, but filled up nicely during the night. Medium finish and moderate complexity... I found it to be a tad heavy... Really needs food. Good introductory barbaresco, but nothing special at the end of the day. 88
Price paid: $27 Would I buy again? Maybe
Day 3: After two days vacuumed in the fridge this is actually a little bit smoother, but still with a good bite... Upping the score to 89. Give this another 3-4 years

Much better than my previous bottle about six months ago. Definitely benefited from decanting. Gorgeous ruby color. Still painfully young with an onslaught of tannins and acid. Despite its hardened youth, this had gorgeous perfume, pure fruit, and nice depth. This definitely has the balance and stuffing to age gracefully and improve. One of the great bargains of the wine world. Great potential.

Decanted 2+ hours before enjoying it with a rack of lamb with buttered red currants and sauteed asparagus. Medium ruby in color. Bright red fruits on the nose with underlying tones of plum, roses, cherries, and crushed rock. On the palate pencil shavings, cherries, white pepper, raspberries, curants, and pomengranate lead to a medium length finish. This wine still showed lots of tannin and acid structure that leads me to believe that it could be in for the long haul. And also at that price point, its hard to pass this one by.

What a great value. I enjoyed each aspect of this wine. Earth, flowers and dried fruit on the nose. Also some toasty oak. I really loved the light pretty fruits, med/high acid and solid tannins. I am not sure what the oak treatment is but it is noticeable. I want to let my other bottles rest but I might not be able to.
As a P.S., it was confirmed that this only sees only large neutral barrels so what I thought was oak is another character of the wine.

What a great bottle of wine for the price. Every bit a barbaresco without the price tag. Drinking well at present although will clearly improve with age. Relatively lighter weight with approachable tannins and good liveliness.

This is probably shutting down some, as I recall tasting this another time and it showed much better then. On first pour, it smelled like band-aids, but after a 1 hr decant, it opened up with some red cherry, menthol, and leather. Medium bodied and fairly smooth, but good tannic grip on the back end. Should improve.

Dark red colour lightening at the rim. Pleasant nose of red fruits, spices and flowers with hints of tar underneath. Elegant and medium bodied in the mouth with bright red fruits over softer spicy and tarry notes, lifting acidity and grainy tannins at the back end.

This was fun to pop in the 3L large format for Sara's 40th birthday party. This is a very light wine, with not much depth or flavor, but it served its purpose well in providing wine for a large group.

Asher introduced me to Produttori del Barberesco and I am very happy about that. The 2004 Barbaresco will turn out to be a great wine with some additional cellaring for sure. Right now it is tannic, but all the core material is there. Leave for 3-5 years.

Has all the makings of a terrific wine. Perfumed with roses and subtle tar to make it a classic Nebbiolo (if a bit modern), but this has plenty of growing to do and should improve dramatically. Lots of upside here, and it will be much more enjoyable when the tannins integrate.

though young, this was a terrific addition to the evening at Bottega. Open and ready to go, plenty of fruit up front with cola and even some rasberry/strawberry nuance. Plenty of tannin so expect this will last a good long while..excellent value. Big fan of Aldo Vaccha who, like his father, directs the cooperative

With CT ratings all over the place, did not know what expect. Decanted for 3+ hrs consumed over 2hrs with rack of lamb, from CT notes I expected this wine to be quite forward, a good dose of black fruit was present in the nose, a touch of spice on the palate, followed by a long tannic finish, suggesting this wine could stand a few more years in the cellar. Will try again in a couple of years. 88+

Italian Wines to Celebrate the Holiday Season (Ross's Condo, New Orleans): Considering the difference in price between this and the riserva Barbaresco we had at tonight's tasting, the 2001 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Ovello, this is easily the better value. The nose is a hint perfumy, with florality and strawberry. The palate is a bit hot, medium-bodied, and carries razor-thin tannins that dry the palate a bit. The finish is relatively short at 15 secs or so, but should lengthen out if you give this wine some time.

I absolutely loved this bottle of wine. Classic cherry and strawberry on the palate. A little muted on the nose. This is clearly a modern interpretation of Nebbiolo with relatively high alcohol and a lot of ripeness. This is intended for young consumption but while your waiting for your Barolos to age it doesn't get any better than this!

nose: nice perfumed nose filled with spices, red cherries, purple and red florals with slight bits of tar. Great, classic nebbiolo nose that has a bit of a robustness to it while also being delicate and refined
taste: big acidity and tannins as one would expect from a young nebbiolo with nice tones of red cherries, spices, bits of tar and some rose petal tones. Good lighter feel but lacking a bit of depth
overall: a real quality wine at a great price. This is a really nice nebbiolo that has the aromatics that you would expect from a good classic producer. Will need a slight bit of time to fully come around, but is a great buy at ~30

Clear medium ruby color; Solid Barbaresco but very young. Oak on the nose with raspberry and earth aromas; The flavors included sour cherry with a medium finish of more sour cherry, roses and earth. Lots of tannins and acid jutting out all over the wine now but should integrate with age. Clearly this is a young but very well-made wine. Right now it is juicy, young Nebbiolo that shows some future promise. Under $30 this is a good deal. Needs at least two more years but should drink well for a long time. {Decanted about 30 minutes using aerator with good results}

lovely cherry and ripe fruit on the nose, exuberant, tar, rose, and leather too. but only at the core, because the outer layers are all astringent tannins still. but the fruit is so obviously ripe and delicious, the acids so piercing and bright, the earth so dusty. this will be great in a while.

Bright ruby with faint hints of raisins, earth and anise on the nose. On the palate this is quite drying, but has noticeable acidity and a medium body. The wine is fruity, with a bit of a hot finish, but needs to be revisited after some time in the glass. Day two it was a little more balanced and enjoyable. Suggests it needs more time before opening, and more time in the glass before drinking. Decent bottle for the price.

What a screaming value....at $33 this wine was kicking serious scents of mushrooms, earth, and a lightly dusted barn scent...In the mouth this wine had excellent acidity wrapped around bright red fruit flavors dominated by sour cherry. What business does this young Barbaresco have being so completely open for business? Nose of ripe mentholated cherries, strawberry, maybe some rose petal (perhaps wishful thinking). Soft and approachable, with grapey/strawberry fruit, fennel seed/spice rack, juicy acidity, earth. Seems deceptively unstructured until about 90 minutes in the decanter, at which point the expected astringent tannins start to come out. By the 2 hour mark this seems on its way to full shutdown. Seems to lack a significant midpalate presence, although it's very tasty in a kind of fruity and four-square way. And it certainly offers much more early appeal than the 2001 normale at a similar age, but therein lies the rub: it just feels a little softer and less ageworthy than the 2001. But I suppose it's possible I'm just being deceived by the finer nature of these 2004 tannins.

Produttori del Barbaresco with Aldo Vacca (Crow's Nest): A bit more serious and complex than the Lange Nebbiolo, but still has a solid fruit core of cherry, dried cranberry. Higher acidity level up front. The tannins are light and dusty, add to the mouthfeel, and cut through some of the food. Finishes with firm acidity and spicy berries. Food played a huge part in the enjoyment of this wine. Tried a week or so beforehand, and it was harsh. Definitely needs food, or 5+ years in bottle.

Vias and Aldo Vacca come to town: Retried, and much different experience than with last month. Pretty classic Barbaresco here, with a nice richness. Tannic, but not overy drying. Roses and cherries are the things that came to mind. Very nice. Can drink this now with a steak, but I'd want to give it a few years. 89-91

I'm a bit confused? After reading reviews and hearing from other colleagues, as well as having the '03, I had a lot of expectations for this one. The nose is addictive, with a nice floral element, warm baking spices, and ripe red cherries with an underlying earthiness, almost mushroomy. The palate however, does not follow through the way I wanted. Light-medium bodied, almost thin with no mid palate, with big bold tannins sneaking up, particularly on the finish. High acid, big tannins, and lack of fruit make this one clumsy Barbaresco. I was hoping it would flesh out after decanting, but did not. Will definitely make a point of trying another bottle.

Brown Jug Italian Tasting: Decanted this wine, but was not able to try it later on. Upon opening, a strong dried mushroom aroma dominated the nose. This was expectadly, very tight, but did seem to have a nice core of fruit. Need to retry another time. But high 80's when I tried it.

Nose: Tar, STRONG alcohol, not much fruit unlike what WS said. Extremely light bodied, again unlike both Galloni and WS descriptions of a very full bodied wine. Acid was off the charts. Strong tannins. Totally hollow mid-palate.
After about 24 hours in the bottle the acid and tannins calmed a bit and the underlying fruit and flowers came forward. Mid-palate still hollow. Finish was quite nice and lengthy. Not sure if more time in the bottle is what is necessary, but that mid-palate was really disappointing. 88 points after 24+ hours. Hope it will get better in time.

Opened one for chuckles -- a pure translucent garnet, not terribly dark. On the nose this is tight and hard, with a classic tar and roses profile, some menthol, no wood showing. Sweet fruit and aggressive tannin on the palate, this is well built and should be a great year for the Normale but isn't really rewarding to open now. Quite clenched and closed on the finish. I'll wait 5+ years before trying more... heck I'm probably still 5 years out on my 01's.

BOT 244 @ Miami--Italian Night (Miami University): A dark nose...some tar, old leather, a light hint of spice, and some floral tinges. Attacks with a blueberry & sour cherry front end and shows a light to medium body. Carries through with a touch of spice & leather. Finish gives nice acid, a bit of bitterness (which I like) and a little bit of charred meat flavors. Tannins are strong and granular.

Ordered off the menu at Lala Rokh (Boston). Restrained and elegant nose of anise, tar, spices, flowers and a touch of black cherry. Given that it was popped and poured, it was surprisingly smooth from the outset, the tannins round and the acid in balance. The power and spices matched nicely with the Persian food.

Light orange/red coloring. Decanted for one hour before dinner, strong aromas of tar and anise, very structured in the mouth, crisp acid and significant tannins. On the second day, the nose added some earthy spices with cedar and coffee notes; the anise was still strong, and the wine was still strongly structured, though the tannins were smoother. If this bottle is representative, I would say let it sit for three years and it will be a very nice wine.

Light red color, fresh somewhat muted Nebbiolo aroma. Shockingly light and quaffable compared to the '03. Reminds me of a Langhe Nebbiolo more than a Barbaresco. Shows the weakness of the vintage more than anything.

The acid spine showed through, giving substantial energy and lift to the sour red and black fruits. The tannins were mostly resolved, but gave a beautiful astringent bite on the long and tart finish. Delicious.

Stubborn wine - takes a lot of coaxing to get any fruit to the front. Pretty austere and tight on day 1 with P&P. Day 2 took on a soapy charecteristic on nose but blew off after an hour.

Tar, meat with a nice dose of dried cherries. A bit hollow in the middle initially, but filled up nicely during the night. Medium finish and moderate complexity... I found it to be a tad heavy... Really needs food. Good introductory barbaresco, but nothing special at the end of the day. 88

I am not sure what the oak treatment is but it is noticeable. I want to let my other bottles rest but I might not be able to.
As a P.S., it was confirmed that this only sees only large neutral barrels so what I thought was oak is another character of the wine.

Italy (Wine Exchange (Orange, CA)): Light salmon garnet. Fairly deep nose of briny green olives. The big-time acid presence is ripe but still shuts off any appreciation of the other layers here. A good bet for cellaring.

Mambo Italiano (wine Exchange): 13.5% alcohol. light garnet color. flavors of dried cranberries, cherries and red plum. nice balance of tart fruit and bone dry tannins that lead to and nice finish.

Pretty with floral light strawberry and some dark tobacco and tar notes. High toned acidic tannins on a long finish. This should get better with time, but is not ever going to be great. Fine for the cost.

Usually love Produttori Barbaresco for the Quality at a good price. I was extremely dissapointed with this wine. I would never have pegged it as a barbaresco. Somewhere between the 02 and the 01 for taste, but much closer to the 02...

Full bodied for a barbaresco, very smooth tannins, and bit fruit forward, but with great potential for such an inexpensive bottle. I will certainly lay a few down to see where they go.
