Tried side by side with a Belgrave 2000, which is constructed much simplier and is in a different price-range. Just wanted to see, if the vintage is ready. And: yes, it is! 4 hours of air. Beautiful fresh aromas of flowers and herbs, tobacco, wet forest floor and blackcurrant on the nose. The palate shows some cherries and black fruits, silky tannins. The acidity keeps the wine fresh and balances the fruit, but I think I will like it even more when it will be more integrated in the future. All in all expressive, complex, fresh, medium-length. Nice try but will certainly get even better in a few years. Drink with 4 hours of air or keep in cellar....92-93++ pts.

Decanted for two hours in a small decanter, and the wine would have benefited from longer aeration. Dark garnet colour. Red and dark fruit, black currant, blackberry, plum, vegetal notes, earth, mushroom, light tobacco, some ground coffee, and spices, with medium-level acidity, sturdy tannin, and very good length. Leafier and more ethereal on day. I was surprised by how young this wine was. Decanting for three hours the day before might had done the trick. Alternatively, I suggest holding for another five years. 90(?)

Decanted for a couple of hours after being upright for a month. Served at 12°. Nose is really lovely; earth, some sliced mushrooms and a hint of beef carpaccio (complete with the citrus). Palate is cool fruited, long and balanced. Tannins have melted away, some tertiary earth tones persist with a little spice and some Margaux berries. Really lovely.

This is a smoking good Margaux specimen. Really beautiful notes of mushroom, violets, brewing coffee in its seductive bouquet. The fruit is totally in balance with the sum of all things terroir-istic (not to be confused with terroristic) and resresentaive of what aficionados have experienced from this appellation that keeps bringing them back. This wine delivers. Ready! Drink

Promisingly open earthy nose. The palate is 100 % open delivering all its goods, fruit is ripe but by no means cooked, perfumes, moist dark earth, raspberries and spices. Fully resolved tannins and fresh medium acidity. The aftertaste is long and mouthwatering. This is in a perfect place right now, hard to see a Left Banker at this price point being better.

This has to be a burgundy lovers dream Bordeaux at this stage. The nose is a soaring 95, full of classic beautiful tones of earth, mushrooms, and coffee tinged night flowers. Really pretty and so,so French. The palate shows allot more age than the bouquet, with its mild manner and soft allure of more of that earthy beauty and dried fruit. The Medium finish is really what keeps this from getting the score of the bouquet, but man this sure is beautiful to sniff. Fully mature in bottles and easy to hold in magnums yet….DRINK

Another bonus bottle, it wasn't in my inventory but it was physically in my cellar (probably bought 6, not 3 like I put in cellartracker). This was gorgeous! I think it was my best one yet. Distinct mature bordeaux cedar quality, which I think extends from that graphite/bell pepper side of things. Something floral too and a great core of mature fruit. It had a certain sweet quality to it as well though it is definitely a dry wine. Long finish. Soft tannins. This was elegant, a real refined wine. Very enjoyable. I wonder if I have another that's not logged!

Mature and beautifully developed bouquet with dark berries and sweet spices, some smoke, forest and stable smells. On the palate beautiful and a bit rustic with pleasant oak, juicy acidity and round tannin with still a soft bite. Beautiful and mature wine. No real hurry.

Vinetasters: 2000 Bordeaux (Park Ridge, IL): Served double blind. Not a big fan of the aldehydic qualities of the nose here. Feels a little imbalanced in that the ripe fruit has been browning and drying out rather than developing with the rest of the palate which in context felt a little hollow and showed less fruit and more earthiness. My 8th, group's 11th.

Elegant nose of fine cedar, leather and tobacco. Fully matured. Ripe black berries, cedar, chocolate, tobacco, licorice. Medium bodied in the mouth, nicely structured and balanced, with mature fruit, cedar, plum, chocolate, spices and toast aromas. Falling a bit behind the last bottle, and again a bit short in the finish, with some remaining acidity, but overall an enjoyable drinking experience. Drink now and over the next 2 years.

It tasted fine on opening so I didn't decant, just gave it five hours uncorked.
Fragrant notes of roses, red cherry and strawberry, very pretty indeed. The first sip confirmed how good it was - bright red cherry at first, then some much darker raspberry, with waves of old rosehip and wild strawberry, before a long, lingering finish featuring all of the flavours plus a hint of blackberry, but above all some great Margaux dusty elegance. Like all P-Ls, there is a slight spiciness to the fruit, but unlike all P-Ls, the texture is really suave and silky. Rich, but not at all jammy unlike other Margaux 00s. this has perfect poise and balance. Probably the best P-L I have tasted and excellent value - I suppose that Prieuré-Lichine is the Lagrange of Margaux.

From magnum. I loved it, and so did everyone else at the table. I'm a Burgundy guy, so this is my type of claret. This Margaux certainly delivers on the nose. Of course it doesn't have the depth or muscularity that many Bordeaus lovers crave, which is reflected in other scores -- but it's got just enough weight for me and more importantly, loads of complexity. Perhaps the most floral Bordeaux I'd had. Tasted twice (first time about 8 years ago from a straight 750ml) with consistent notes.

This was just delicious. In its prime and not sinking. Had it decanted for at least 2 hours before serving. It tastes like black currant (cassis), blackberry, forest floor, mushroom, toast, vanilla, lead pencil, clove, nutmeg, tobacco, lavender and meaty. The body is full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has low acidity.

Wonderful, elegant nose of fine cedar, leather and tobacco. Fully matured. Ripe black berries, cedar, chocolate, tobacco, licorice. Medium bodied in the mouth, nicely structured and balanced, with mature fruit, cedar, plum, chocolate, spices and toast aromas. A bit short in the finish and some residual acidity initially, but overall an enjoyable drinking experience. Drink now and over the next 2-3 years.

lovely nose, (berries and cedar wood), On the palate a lot of berries, tabaccco, leather, cedar, good balance, perfect acidity, soft and resolved tannins, short decanting is enough than it's perfect to drink, fully mature, drink it in the next years,

Bordeaux 2000 - 20 Years On - 48 Reds: All tasted blind, not decanted. Observations: 1) It´s a good vintage but not on par with more recent great vintages like 09/10/15/16. Why? A smaller group of top wines reaching lower highs and in general a tad less depth, purity and finesse. 2) Right bank is ready, the left bank still needs time to integrate and open up. 3) Not much tertiary aromas yet - peak drinking window at least 10 years away for most wines. 4) 2000 is a bit a cooler vintage which is great for the right bank (not too much ripeness). 5) Winners? Pomerol with the highest ratings. Le Pin (97+ pts) leading the pack for me (narrowly beating the consensus winner Pavie (97 pts).
More information, top and worst 10 lists, appellation rankings, out- and underperformer from five participants in the story link. As always, in such tastings (lots of wines, not a lot of time per wine, not decanted) the ranking of wines/appellations might be more informative than the scores.
TN: At first I rated it around 94 to 95 points at is was very expressive and quite intense with the typical Margaux aromas and finesse. After a few moments, it lost a bit of its depth and intensity but anyway a beautiful wine. On the nose a lot of coffee and burnt sugar. Same on the palate with additional aromas of dark berries and some floral aromas. Soft Margaux structure, medium length. Easily worth 92/93 points.
Decanting: Good from the go, no extensive decanting needed.
Group average: 92.0 pts Group rank: 35th out of 48

Opened this for my dad's birthday celebration at Huat Kee Teochew Restaurant.
Decanted for 2 hours before consumption. A very matured wine which still needs more time in the bottle or decanter. Some meat notes with cassis, dark red cherries, dark chocolates, some spices, vanilla, and lead. The nose is unmistakably Margaux, with the perfumed aroma and chewy tannins adding to the wholesome experience for the drinker.

Gang of 4 in Covid19 times; Margaux versus Pauillac (@ RW): Dark and red berries like blackberries and strawberries in the bouquet. Also a pleasant dose of vanilla from the oak. On the palate a refined, not overly concentrated wine with some chocolate, red bell pepper, pleasant oak, still firm acidity and a good length.

An acrid smell wafted up during decanting, but that was a false alarm. The wine is on the rustic side, but balanced with some fruit and earthy spices, and has a long, rustic finish. I enjoyed this last bottle and I'm not sure where it will go from here, but I imagine that it will blend nicely of the next 5 years.

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (45%) and Petit Verdot (5%). Aged for approximately 15 months in oak barriques (approx. 50% new). 13% alcohol.
Somewhat translucent garnet color that doesn't seem that developed, nor particularly youthful. The expressive nose feels quite powerful with ripe yet savory aromas of dark berries, tobacco, some smoky tones, a little bit of fragrant oak spice, light woody notes of pencil shavings, herbaceous hints of leafy greenness and cooked bell pepper and a touch of salty liquorice. With some air, the nose opens up to reveal a quite tertiary notes of porty, raisiny fruit and madeirized sweetness. The wine is dry, silky and somewhat evolved on the palate with a medium body and layered flavors of fresh dark berries, tobacco, some leathery and slightly smoky tones, a little bit of sweet toasty oak, light woody notes of pencil shavings, a sweet hint of wizened dark fruits and a herbaceous touch of cooked bell pepper. Overall the wine feels quite accessible and surprisingly mellow on the palate, thanks to the medium-to-moderately high acidity and resolved, ripe tannins that lend some textural feel to the mouthfeel, but quite little grip to the structure. The finish is dry, velvety smooth and somewhat tertiary with very gentle tannic grip and layered flavors of fresh blackcurrants, some ripe redcurrants, light woody notes of savory oak spice, light evolved nuances of leather and tobacco, a toasty hint of smoke and a sweet touch of dried figs.
An evolved and enjoyably perfumed Margaux that shows quite a bit of power and complexity in the nose, but comes across as surprisingly soft and gentle on the palate, showing much more development in the taste. The wine is smack in the middle of its drinking window and most likely at or very close to its peak. I can imagine the fruit will continue to develop for some years more, but structurally the wine is getting quite soft and most likely will just get softer with further aging. All in all, this is a nice and harmonious effort that shows good sense of evolution, but ultimately comes across as a bit underwhelming. Furthermore, the wine is surprisingly developed for its age - in our tasting of fifteen 2000 Bordeaux reds, this was among the most developed wines, if not the most evolved wine. Good but not great. No need to keep it any further.

Sweet violet and tobacco or graphite notes on the nose. Very round and soft with a very fine presence on the palate. Could use a tad more tannin but this is is my next to last bottle of a case I bought years ago for $20 each. Outstanding and very enjoyable. Right when decanted showed well but best after 20 minutes. Drink and enjoy!

Very soft and minimal tannins still keeping it together for a very enjoyable light-medium bodied Bordeaux with green pepper and red fruit. This was elegant and probably drank as well or better in first hour out of bottle as in hour 2.

This bottle didn't exist in my cellar according to cellartracker, which makes it a bonus bottle! This is really a gorgeous refined bottle of bordeaux. Medium color. The nose is an enticing mix of floral and smokey char. Great mouthfeel with red fruit and a bit of that smoke again. Tannin is soft, finish is long. Wonderful and I suspect it is at peak.

Looked and tasted far younger than previous comments suggested I expect. Deep purple color with little bricking. Nose of dark purple fruit, spice and leather. Flavors began with the fruit and spice showing. Only concession to age is that the flavors evolved more rapidly than with a younger wine. Within and hour, the fruit faded and the dominant flavor was mint, with a deep, rich background.

Out goes the last bottle. This wine became much more balanced with age and shed quite some of its harsh notes over time. It ended up quite light, but beautifully balanced with medium length. A text book aged Bordeaux, and quite Margaux in its fruity lightness and silky tanins.

This was a dinner wine to match with duck breast. The smoky, tobacco, musty aroma of the wine was a perfect match. Still plenty of tannins and fruits, right amount of acidity to carry the wine through the duck fat. Good length, lighter on the palate and enjoyable , still after 20years!

Medium garnet. Mature Bordeaux aromas - dried cassis, prune, tobacco, cedar, clove, liquorice, earth. Fully developed. Medium acidity, tannins fine and quite soft now, medium+ finish that really holds the fruit characteristics. Very good quality and drinking perfectly. Much more enjoyable than when I last tasted this 7 years ago. You can hold, but it's not going to develop further and the structure and concentration are only just holding it together. Drink in next couple of years would be my recommendation.

Opened 2-1/2 hours before dinner, tasted and decided to decant to clear sediment and coax it to flesh out more. The decant was smart as the nose really opened up. That said this is fully matured and should be drank up in the next 2-5yrs top. A great perfuse nose with lots of cigar box, cedar and light underbrush. Semi opaque ruby red color with some bricking on the edges. Margaux weightless balance with; red fruit, cedar, chocolate, tobacco, licorice and light underbrush. 13% alc. We really enjoyed this with steak but I'm inclined to drink mine up well before its 25th bday. Cork was in tight and almost like new with about 1/4" even soak. Had a fair amount of sediment. I purchased down the line in late Oct 2015. Not on release.

Wow— this was simply a great bottle. So smooth and luscious with really fine tannins that softly eased across the palate. An outstanding example of mature claret that will drive me to purchase, age and enjoy more wines from Margaux. Drink them near term as this is the apex.

Magnum: Very tight and grippy, feels like its just barely entering its drink window in magnum. The red crunchy fruit is sweet and fresh, while the graphite is dancing int he background and tobacco is not as evident as it is in 750's. The violets are in full play throughout the wine. Very pretty...Drink from Bottle and HOLD in magnums for 5 more years.

Well developped Margaux having reached its drinking window. I would have given a higher score without the bottle variance observed amongst the three bottles emptied. Elegant and subtle, typical Margaux nose of mature black berried, cedar, chocolate, tobacco, licorice. Medium bodied in the mouth, nicely structured and balanced, with mature fruit, cedar, plum, chocolate, spices and toast aromas. A bit short in the finish, but overall an enjoyable drinking experience. Drink now and over the next 3-5 years.

At 18 years old, the cork was intact and the wine still darkly colored, fruity, brightly acidic, firmly tannic and drying, and well integrated. A fine example of how Bordeaux wines are ageworthy and distinctly different from New World wines made from the same grapes. Lively, vivid, and well structured without being sweet, soft, lush, heavy, or fruit dominated. And as we hoped, also really good with food.

In the 2000 bottling, Lichine captured the essence of Margaux that is often lost with many producers these days. This wine is powerful, yet very feminine and pretty. The finish is quite long and the wine has definitely improved from my last pull a couple of years ago. It throws lots of red fruit, tobacco and pretty flower shop scents in the middle and along the finish. Its like a multi layered wine right now with cedar and earth in the front, tobacco and red fruit, flowers, then earth, fruit and flowers again...Very nice. Drink or hold but this is at peak and 100% developed.
* Completely intact on day 2. The wine is in great shape for an aged Bdx.

Gorgeous, ethereal classic-Margaux nose. Reasonably weighty in the mouth. Good length and mouthfeel. Just a hint of grip on the finish. Definitely into the developed end of the flavour spectrum, but with some primary fruit holding on. As is often the case with good Margaux, it's probably more about the nose than the mouth, but this is a lovely wine with plenty of life left in it.

Åpen et par timer, men ikke dekantert. Høy syre i forhold til frukt, dominerer egentlig. Det blir ikke noe mer balanse nedover i flasken. Dette er åpenbart og først og fremst en matvin.

Dinner at Margaux's Table (Margaux's Table, White Bear Lake, MN): Very dark red/purple color. Slow-O for 3 hours, drank 1+ glass over an hour. Very pretty nose right from the start, with a gorgeous perfume of potpourri, dried flowers, spices, and dried cedar, more red fruits, cherry with red berries. The palate has nice fruit, the ripeness of the vintage showing, black cherry, red cherry, and more subtle cassis notes. Medium full bodied with a nice texture, tannins that are round, silky, and melding well. A very nicely balanced wine showing well. This too got better over the hour, but it really was firing from the start.

Cellared since release, perfect cork and fill. Dark red, minimal lightening at rim. Forward, expressive nose of cassis, leather, earth. Medium body, ripe red fruits and some complexity on the palate, well balanced, integrated tannins, medium finish. Has reached its plateau and will likely remain there for at least a decade. Room for some fruit/complexity trade off in the future, a positive if you like that. Excellent to outstanding.

Drinking beautifully. Dinner with friends at a 1 star Michelin in London. Opposite a Figeac 2001. Large format magnum. Opened a case of 6 and brought one to the restaurant. decanted about an hour. Next time will do more. Pretty wine. Silky and mouthy at the same time. Super elegant. Beautiful nose. I love this region for the bouquet alone. Must be the cabernet which gives our such great structure and tannin yet this wonderful blend of floral notes too. They say it could be one of the best PL ever in 30 - 40 years according to Parker. Relatively inexpensive to buy many years ago but the year is undoubtedly great. Punches above is weight for price. So happy this is in magnums. Will continue to age beautifully but in danger of rapid consumption in my house

Lovely BDX, despite the slightly modern stylings (oak spice was still a bit too prominent for my liking), but lovely floral, cigar, and leathery tones and touch of green herbs for freshness. Has plenty of backbone for more aging, and I'd let it rest to give the oak more time to integrate.

from cool cellars this wine needs definitely more time, even in halves, my last of these cooler ones was still opaque, deep purple, smelled and tasted too young, did not open during a couple of days of decanting, while the first half bottle came from a store where the bottles had 5 degrees C warmer - that one was great.

dark red-purple requires 1-2 hours of decanting excellent Margaux style nose with funk, damp earth, pencil lead, perfumed, floral, cassis, blueberry, raspberry, and leather. Since I've had this for the third time now over the last 6 months, I won't bore you with details. I agree with Chablis28's evaluation as well. MK's 20th Anniversary Dinner (Capitalle Grille, Mpls, MN): Very dark red/purple color. slow ox for 4 hours and double decanted for an hour; drank 2+ glasses over 2 hours. Another wonderful showing from this beauty. The nose stars here, with a great perfume of florals along with a bevy of ripe fruits - cassis, red berries, and then blueberry scents that are complimented by the mineral and mature oak. The palate is full bodied, nicely structured with textured tannins, zippy, mineral, a mix of black, blue and red fruits, pencil, earth and a long finish. This was a more youthful bottle and a bit of the reverse of the last bottle in which the palate surpassed what was still an excellent nose. 93+pts.

Very nice mature bordeaux with a lovely bouquet. The nose had graphite, red berries, cinnamon and leather. The palate had softened tannins in a medium bodied style. Not too much weight and complexity. But this is a ready and classic mature bordeaux in a good vintage. The smothness and readiness of this wine were enjoyable. Good value. This is a wine which is at its peak. I would drink this now and the next 2-3 years. 90+

"Undeniably the finest Prieuré-Lichine in 30-40 years, this textured, rich, medium to full-bodied 2000 boasts a dark, ruby/purple color in addition to a knock out nose of black cherries, cassis, tobacco leaf, cocoa and toasty oak in the background. The wine is sweet on the attack, full-bodied and well-textured with oodles of fruit and glycerin. This is sexy stuff that can be drunk early. but will age gracefully for 15-16 years. Decanted about 30 min. Had forgotten that I had tried this wine 4 years ago already and was not entirely convinced back then. This bottle was solid but underwhelming for a 2000 (would have rated perhaps 89pts) but moreover had a slightly oxidized note which I find rather rare for Bordeaux. One bottle left so let's hope it's better than the first two...

18c; no decant; clean, ruby; feint floral nose, later expanding with leather and barn, mint and pinks; nice grip, bright tannins; currants, raspberries, cherries, red licorice, mint, sage; 18 (Pauillac is from Mars, Margaux is from Venus).

No detailed note, but a lovely meaty minty nose- very pretty. Pleasantly tangy but perhaps just a fraction lacking in length for a 2000 of this pedigree. Other Margaux are better in this vintage.

Initially a little too cold from our cellar, it opened up nicely with warming. Pencil lead, dark fruit and tarry notes predominated. Nicely structured with a firmly acidic backbone and light tannins, it held up to a roasted beef tenderloin nicely.

This was much better than I expected. Excellent QPR. Even at cellar temperature, the wine left a "warm" impression on the palate, thanks to the ripe fruit and smooth tannins. Wish I had more at the price I paid. Drinking well now, no need to wait.

Weekly tasting group #150; New Year's tasting (A mixed set.) (@ My place): In the bouquet and on the palate in this stage a classical Bordeaux. In the bouquet cassis and the Margaux oaky perfume, some cedar and tobacco as well as minerals. On the palate juicy cassis, some bell pepper, good acidity and still slightly sticky tannin with still a firm bite. I have the impression the wine )still' is in a somewhat locked stage and needs another few years of ageing to show more finesse. Possibly wise to wait until 2017 or 18. I have a few more, so there will be a follow up on this one.

It might be bottle variation but this bottle seemed old and tired. Earthy porcini mushroom bouquet with some dried fruit. Palate is thin with some dried fruit and lively acidity. There is still an acceptable level of tannins. Lackluster in comparison to other 2000 vintage I've had.

We'll structured and integrated. Upon opening, fragrance of dark cherry and violets jumped from the bottle...was surprised by the vibrancy of this wine. The palate was dark cherry with cooking spice...clove and a hint of rosemary. Soft tannins and long finish of fruit and spice. Medium body. Drinking quite well now.

Very nice, elegant wine from Margaux. Seems quite young with evident tannins. Cassis and lots of earth and leather. Some funk undertones on opening that blew off in 30 minutes. A little light on the attack, but overall is smooth. Long finish. Can drink or hold this one, but this is certainly going to continue to drink well for a number of years. I'll hold off for awhile with my remaining bottles.

Cassis, redcurrant and cranberry on nose and palate, with trademark PL spices. Quite evolved, the colour starting to brick at the edges. It's a pleasant wine, drinking well in an easy-going sort of way, but with neither the power I expected from PL in a top vintage nor the elegance of a true Margaux. Not the best Margaux in 00 nor one of the better PL vintages, it lacks grip or bite and I can't see it improving.

Very elegant and charming. Delicate floral nose with some cassis and notes of leather. Great structure and potential. Drinks very well now, but will evolve for up to a decade more. Great wine.

my third 1/2 bottle, while the first was much more mature, second over a year ago/and third now are from a different source and still very closed, almost like different vintages. I had this bottle finally decanted overnight, but it didn't help much, I won't touch this the next 3 years at least. 89p for this now, 93p I gave the first bottle hopefully again in about 3-5 years.

Second Sunday Group: 2000 Bordeaux (R&D's): Dark color. Aromas of red fruit, though a bit tight at first, becoming perfumed and florally in the glass. Black fruits and florals with an herbal, slightly earthy undertone. Full-bodied with some tannin to shed yet, but what tannins are there are certainly approachable and fine-grained. Flavors of plum, blackberry, licorice and red fruit with a pleasant herbal streak. 91-93 pts.

Really classy, classic Margaux. Good right from the get-go. Soft, feminine, mulberry perfume. Still strong garnet color. Very soft, gentle fruit, tannins tamed. Seems at its peak though should last and hold for years. Lovely drink. 4-12-16-8: 90/100.

Very well developed and enough potential for another 10 years. Aristocratic Bordeaux. Nose with black berries combined with pine aromas of the oak. I like the tough tannins and black fruit. Well balanced and therefore an approachable wine.

This is ready, willing and able to serve up a nice dose of black cherries, tobacco, cigar box and earthy notes. The texture is soft, smooth and round, the finish could be longer, but this elegant wine is in the perfect, sweet spot for drinking.

Drank over two days. Day one PnP the vanilla and cassis were beautiful in the bouquet and still very youthful. Same on the palate. A textbook Margaux. Day two still a lot of cassis and beautiful classical Bordeaux impressions. The tannin still has a good bite and is a bit drying in the finish. I think this wine needs another 4 or 5 years in the bottle to show its real complexity and finesse. So around 2018.

Really liked this and it showed wonderfully, dark cherry, black currant, lead, earth and hints of cigar, similar palate which is fresh and intense. This still has a decade of evolution and i will struggle to keep m hands off my last bottle!

Not as open as the previous bottles, perhaps due to the fact only got to slow-ox for couple hours before dinner. Very deep in color, not much aging sign. With coaxing, aromas of flowers, currants, mint, roasted nuts, and wet earth. Nicely structured, plush mouth feel, with notes of coffee and cherry. Mid palate is well balanced, though appears lighter in weight this time. Fine tannins and refreshing acidity. The finish is compsed of jam, red fruits and burnt wood.

Tuesday Night Double Blind $40+ (Bin 75): Dark garnet with dark red rim; red currant, cranberry, blue cheese, sweaty pits; richness, tobacco, stony, earth, red fruit, darker, nice grip of tannin that is pleasant; pent up and lots left in the tank.

It feels like visiting a good old friend, having tasted this wine multiple times this year, and it's delicious with every visit. Although this bottle took longer time to open up, aromas of flowers, black currants, menthol, vanilla, roasted nuts, violet, and a hint of pencil lead. Creamy mouth feel, there's licorice, sweet raspberry, cocoa powder on the palate. Balanced mid palate, with noticeable tannins, dry but fine. Decent finish, with jam, spice, red fruits and oaky smoke.

Chris's Favourites (Chez Chris Davies, Paris): Clear, dark purple-red, only slightly fading at the edge. Clean nose, dark fruits, cedar, quite ripe. Medium palate, ripe fruits, fine tannins, well integrated but still present. Medium finish. No hurry to drink

Same pleasant and satisfying feeling as previous tastings, this wine is of great value for its price, especially given an outstanding vintage. Full nose of summer flowers, berries, wet wood, incense and cigar smoke, a hint of lavender as well. The elegant Margaux characters, smooth and feminine feel remains, taste of floral, sweet spice and anise. Very well integragted tannins, only negative is the short finish.

This Margaux wine is really a treat, plush, elegant, with nice balance and length. Loads of perfumed florals, cocoa, licorice, and dried mint coming out from the glass. Same notes on the palate, with cherry, spice and tobacco leaf. Impeccably balanced, with soft chewy tannins round the mid-palate. A longer finish could be desired, but this wine is all in all - delicious!

Had it last night with steak and gorgonzala sauce. Decanted it for two hours. Delicious. Very rich nose, well integrated and beautifully balanced - and got better and better over the next two hours that we drank it. Tannins and fruit very well integrated, rich mouth feel and a very nice finish. It's not a massive wine, but it is rich and elegant, well balanced and very pleasurable. It is not young any more but has many years to go still before it reaches old age. A very good value as well for a 2000.

Not bad. Plenty of appealing fruit and zest, but not enough body or grip. I was hoping for something approaching the quality of the 90, but this doesn't have the same depth at all - I actually think the 99 is better, at about a third of the price. Fine if you like upfront fruit, but this could have come from anywhere: it is certainly enjoyable but PL should have done better.

Gosh, I love this wine. So sensuous, so Margaux, the taste sensation stayed with me for hours. It showed what I love about the vintage - good structure, freshness, plenty of ripe fruit - plush and never overblown. My last bottle and I think it could last years.

Opened and let it sit in the bottle for two hours. Dark ruby red claret with good legs. With the aeration, wonderful nose with layers of perfumed florals, signature of the appellation. Cocoa, licorice, cinnamon, dark fruits, with a hint of mint and roses. In agreement with other recent tasters that the touch on palate is gentle, feminine. Medium bodied texture, tannins have graciously integrated, with brilliant balance and tasty feel in the mid section. Taste of cherry, plum, cigar, sweet spices and minerals, plush texture with medium acidity to round the palate. If the finish could have been longer, it'd be fantastic, yet the finish has good amount of tobacco and sweet floral scents in it.
This wine should be or has just entered its peak period, and offers a great drinking enjoyment. Unfortunately wouldn't finish the bottle, and used a bottle saver for the next day. Some oxidation was there, but most of the aromatics and structure remained, enjoyed with Parmigiano Reggiano cheese making the sunday afternoon just that much more relaxing =)

This 13-year-old Margaux was purchased upon release and cellared in pristine fashion. It still shows a deep ruby/red robe. The wine was decanted off its (moderate) sediment and serially tasted over the ensuing four hours. Within 30 minutes the nose shows very intense aromas of dried cherries, white flowers, allspice, coriander and plum. The wine is medium-to-full-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity, medium silky tannins and well-integrated alcohol (listed as 13%). The middle is rock-solid and the long finish is very smooth. This adolescent has matured into a responsible, elegant female adult! Absolutely stunning at this point. I suspect that it has entered its plateau phase and, as such, should be beautiful for another decade or two. Drink now-12/30.

Bramble, blackcurrant, cedar and a slight hint of cider - beginning to show its age here. Beautiful acid - very bright throughout the palate but the fruit here is increasingly warm and rich with plenty of woody earthiness. The underlying savory feel makes this eminently drinkable. Still has great structure, but the tannins have smoothed out beautifully. On the basis of this bottle, the acid-tannin-wood-fruit balance is perfect and this wine has begun its (hopefully very long) peak period. If you're used to drinking cali cabs or big blockbuster reds, this might feel a little thin to you, but this is exactly the kind of wine that I want to drink: elegant, fragrant, complex and refreshing. Absolutely stellar - probably the most enjoyable wine I've had all year.

Beautiful bouquet; very Margaux with elegant perfumed oak, cassis, tobacco and sweet spices. On the palate a little less impressive, probably because the wine is still a bit too young. There are red as well as dark fruits, some earth and leather, firm acidity and tannin and good bitterness in the fairly long finish. But, it doesn't all fall together at this moment. Bought a case and have several left, so the will be several follow ups on this wine. One bottle scheduled for 2013, but I should put it away for later. Next try end 2014. 89 for now + 1 for the potential

Outstanding - with expectation that it will get better still! Decanted for about an hour (could have used a bit more). Dried fruit & flowers, earthy and smoky vanilla, some sturdy but nice tannins, and a slightly raw but very good finish. A bit more forward than my typical Bordeaux, I'm looking forward to trying it as it ages.

Clear dark ruby color with an expansive nose of floral (dried flowers is a good descriptor from another note), cassis and spice. Unfortunately the palate and finish did not match up to the great nose and both fell somewhat short. It was well-balanced and seemed appropriately aged for the vintage. Hard to say where this one will go.

My first 100 point wine, then a second (Buffalo, NY): Enjoyable aromatics of crushed dried flowers and leather. These aromas continue through on the palate, adding a bit of red cassis. Elegant, feminine and everything was well integrated, but it seemed quite light & the finish was somewhat short. The rest of the group liked this much more than I did and were consistently in the 93 range.

Drinking very well right now, but can use a little time yet. Very floral aromatics with some char, graphite and sweet cranberry. Very nice on the tongue with a rich mouthfeel. Good acid, fine tannins, nice finish. If I could buy this again I would gladly do so. Yum. Will probably last a good 5-10 more years and improve a few points.
Drank just as well or better the second night, very impressive rich fruit. This was one I should have bought more of!

Enjoyed the wine at a restaurant. Served with a grilled ribeye. The wine still has structure and body. Fruit was pleasantly married to tannins. Finish was still evident and, though not lingering, was enough to last in the mouth.

Decanted 45 min and drank over the next 1.5h. Color shows only slight development with a lightening rim and a dark garnet core. Pretty nose and a palate with dark fruit and licorice, still some tannins but nicely integrated. Rather short finish. Overall slightly disappointing (89-90). I thought the USD 60 I paid recently for this wine was a good deal, but you get better QPR with many other cru classe from 01 or 04, or 05 cru bourgeois from Margaux.

Dark red to rim. Big effusive nose of cassis, leather, tar, earth. Maybe a bit of alcohol on first opening but this was buried by the time it warmed a bit from cellar temp. Medium body, ripe red fruits and hints of beginning complexity on palate, good balancing acidity to counter the sweet fruit, moderate well-integrated tannins, medium finish. Not yet at peak but on its way. Excellent-outstanding.

Drank alongside two other 2000 bord's (Chateau Quinault L'Enclos, Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste) and this was the softest of the bunch. All three were nearly indistinguishable from another, all had cassis, leather and some earth on the nose. In the mouth, a short finish.

Lovely, classic Margaux - slightly earthy, dark fruits, great balance. Elegant, but also rather concentrated and powerful. Like a prior bottle, the cork was extremely tight in the bottle and hard to open. This is a great example of a very nice, aged bordeaux.

A good way to end Thanksgiving weekend. Drank this with filet mignon, grilled yams, and sauteed brussels sprouts. A floral nose and a palate to match with the addition of red berries. A feminine wine leaving a lovely aftertaste, with the tannins reminding us that it is still a very young wine.

Popped and poured -- lovely, full, rich, classic, complex margaux nose of dark berry, earth, oak and a bit of funk. Struggled to get the cork out of the bottle (good condition, just very tight). Medium to full bodied with an elegant, but rich mouthfeel. Out of the bottle the wine was tightly wound and featured lots of ripe, sweet, dark berry fruit; some oak; a big structure with slightly drying tannins, and a long, focused, fruity finish. Opened up and became richer and softer after about 1 hour of airtime. Absolutely delicious classic bordeaux.

Decanted 3 hours before a dinner of grilled tenderloin. Beautiful garnet color in the glass. Nose reveals berries, very mild leather, slight oak. On the palate, more berry and oak is presented. A wonderul finish that exudes jut the right amount of french terroir and dust. This wine went up against an old '76 Petrus and held its own. A very good wine for the value.

Dark garnet color. Nose of graphite, minerals and black cherry but a bit tight overall. Also a bit tight on the palate due to the dry tannins but the skeleton of really good wine is all there. This wine just needs more time in the bottle to develop.

When I saw Winetex's note I was curious about the one that I had in my cellar. I opened mine (a mag) to decant to take to an offline. The nose was funky but showed some fruit and earthiness. The taste though was the same as Winetex's, "not fit to drink". I put it on the counter and retried tonight, but it was the same.
The interesting thing is that someone at the offline did bring a mag of the 2000. I will post a separate note, but I will mention that there was a taste difference between the two. I don't know what the wine fault was in mine, but it was a doozy. Perhaps Bitterness taint or Geranium taint?

Bottle was in great shape; we opened about an hour prior to drinking. Purple core, turning to ruby at the edge. This bottle had a slightly different aromatic profile than previous examples (from a different case) offering up scents of dry-aged beef, ripe dark fruits and earth. Medium-bodied, with good concentration of ripe fruit flavors, nice depth, sweet tannins and a focused finish. Is drinking well now, but will probably continue to improve over the next 10 years.

Bottle was in pristine shape; 2nd from a case purchase. Youthful appearance; a hint of ruby at the edge. Still some tannins to resolve, but a long and focused finish. Bravo!

Really drinking very well right now. Almost has more of a right-bank feel to it at this stage. Great nose, jumps out of the glass. Absolute dark cherry and oak but not too much oak with a hint of tobacco. Not quite as dry up front as you would expect for Margaux but not at all too sweet. Just great fruit and long finish.

Should have looked in CT to read my previous TN. Although I can discover toasted oak, cigar and cassis and even some chocolate, the most dominant participants of the tasting think this wine is too old. The others hardly disagree. I believe this wine is locked too much to show its real merits. Now I will remember and will not open one of my own bottles for at least another 2-3 years.

While I have quite many bottles of this I tried it again. A beauty alright. Give it more time. It is not as opulent as it was a few years ago, but I trust this will come back. I will probably taste this wine again sooner, but it is probably best to wait at least until 2012.

Wow - what a great value! Surprisingly open and approachable. Aromas of sweet ripe blackberries/bing cherries, cinnamon, minerals, violets and a touch of leather jump from the glass. Concentrated, feminine and elegant with a moderate finish. Classic Margaux, balanced and just so enjoyable right now. I did not decant yesterday as this was a last minute "I need a drink" maneuver on my part, and I knew I would be finishing some tonight. Solid 90 pointer and a stupendous value (I think under $20 few years ago)

The 200 Prieure Lichine exchibits great concentration and lots of glycerin, it is profound and elegant. On the nose it presents some vainilla, coffee, caramel and a bit of underwood as well as a hint of violettes. It is a complex and elegant nose. On the mouth it is full bodied, with layers of aromatics and again hints of coffee, leather and minerals and well integrated tannins. It is long with addtional mineral complexity in the aftertaste. A classic, but probably a crime to drink now...

Bottle taken from my personal cellar and presented in double-blind fashion to the Vintage Wines, Ltd. tasting group. Decanted and serially tasted over three hours. Bright disc. Opaque black/purple robe with deep purple rim. Clean nose, showing moderately intense currants, chocolate, black cherry and dust aromas. Full-bodied on the palate, with copious sweet tannins, medium acidity and similar flavors as for the nose. Long finish. This is the best Prieure-Lichine since the '83. It should develop well.

Group average: 92.0 pts
Group rank: 35th out of 48

Decanted for 2 hours before consumption. A very matured wine which still needs more time in the bottle or decanter. Some meat notes with cassis, dark red cherries, dark chocolates, some spices, vanilla, and lead. The nose is unmistakably Margaux, with the perfumed aroma and chewy tannins adding to the wholesome experience for the drinker.

P: Med, poss LM, body; Almost rndish entry with almost swtish frt on the front. VERY nicely balanced, seamless, & with a LONG (albeit very slightly faint) finish. soft integrated firm tannins, full bodied, well balanced and harmonised, soft structured, basic complexity, tobacco, mint-eucalyptus, soft cigar-box finish, medium aftertaste.
requires decanting of 1-2 hours.
24 hours later: still very enjoyable and fully aerated

Lovely BDX, despite the slightly modern stylings (oak spice was still a bit too prominent for my liking), but lovely floral, cigar, and leathery tones and touch of green herbs for freshness. Has plenty of backbone for more aging, and I'd let it rest to give the oak more time to integrate.

Herrlich duftender Wein. Mittlerer Körper, schön gereifte CS-Töne, feine modrige Noten. Kann die gute Bewertung nachvollziehen. Kriegt man den Wein unter SFR60...zugreifen!

Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Northbrook, IL): Tasted double blind. Ripe plum and black plum aromas on nose. Palate was much more structured with somewhat coarse tannins and sharp acidity well ahead of the black fruit. Seemed disjointed.

Decanted 2 hr. Licorice, spice, berries, cedar and dried flowers. Good Margaux nose but I felt the wine was not quite ready yet. Perhaps a few more years? Rather short finish.

Boquet was a bit restrained at first, but opened to reveal aromas of ripe black fruits, smoke, fennel and pencil shavings. Medium bodied; fine structure, good concentration, and round texture.
