The Latour was theft of the three 96s, beating the Mouton, which was not evolved enough to drink and the Lafite which showed no lafite character. The condense scars these are just not ready yet which is surprising given they are 28 years old.

2 bottles of the '96 Latour opened for a family/friends dinner party. Low Neck bottle levels. Corks removed intact via Durand - no evidence of seepage. Color - translucent edge to opaque-deep garnet/no bricking. Nose - Dark fruit, earthiness and tar (not prominent). Palate - Dark fruit forward with suis bois, pencil and tobacco. Mouthfeel - full bodied with medium to long pleasant finish ending with soft/fine mouth drying tannins. Wine was enjoyed by all as it seemed to strike an excellent balance for those wanting a fruit forward wine, versus those who wanted a more complex wine experience. For me personally, while excellent, this was perhaps not a classic Latour showing as I would have expected less of the Left-bank classic style graphite/pencil aromas versus more tobacco/cigar humidor type aromas that Latour is known for. (I know - I'm being a bit picky here! Rating 95/96)

blind Some fruit elements but this bottle was a bit too evolved. Great to drink now but normally should be fresher and more compact and less accessible. 97

This bottle was really singing. Maybe just because its been so long since I had a Latour.

Much leaner showing than 4 years ago. This bottle was tighter and more mineral driven like a Pessac - still a great wine but I have had greater.
