  • At Sunshine Beach. This wine opened quite dull and earthy but woke up after a double decant and a few hours in the bottle showing a deep red colour and a rich nose of fruitcake, blueberries, cassis, tobacco and earth. The palate was rich and round with nice complexity to the fruit that showed touches of spice and Christmas cake leading into some fine tannins and sense of the earth. Really quite delicious once you recalibrate your palate to the style !

  • Medium depth of colour. Nose was initially mostly savoury, with rosemary and mint notes. Red and black fruits then came forward after an hour or so. Medium bodied, decent balance and finish. Okay but not as good as other vintages for this wine in my opinion.

  • My last bottle shared with a fellow run-ragged-by-life CT'er at a forgettable chain steakhouse. Why does Ruths Chris exist?? Avoid this place.

This bottle was popped and poured and followed over 4 hours. The perfume was standstill gorgeous. Wow. Haunting. I'd rate the perfume 99 points. I'd rate the wine 96 points. I'd rate this tasting note 74.

This 21 year old bottle was in an absolutely stunning condition tonight. My last of a 6 pack. Well stored bottles probably have 2-4 before a decline sets in. Definitely place this bottle upright (on death row) for a week or 4 before serving. There is lots of sediment in it. Congrats to those that still have these.

  • [random?] bbq with old friends (telok kurau): Rounded red and black fruit, sweet elegant spices, ashy earth, lacy structure. Soft supple leather, dusting of christmas spice, and white stonefruit and orange peel. Nicely developed, revealing bitter mocha with time with nice clarity and lightness, and working well with our Cape Grim, Ginny's yummy potatoes, and also her choc-orange cake! Glad this bottle survived!

  • Clearly from a weaker vintage, but this was drinking at peak and absolutely delicious - this was a perfect wine for nice BBQ at Reuben’s. It had a beautifully classic Aussie Shiraz nose, with wafts of earth, a hint of meat, a drift of ripe blueberries, some aged balsamic, and then sweet licorice spice and typical eucalyptus herb aromas. Lovely and inviting. The palate was absolutely en point - round and velvety, with gently juicy acidity lapping against perfectly integrated flavours of blueberries, cassis and sweet wood spice, all still very fresh and lively. Finish was satisfying rather than truly lengthy, and this lacked the power of a great vintage, but boy was it ever delicious. I loved this.
