Henschke Wines Tasting with Johann Henschke (WineHouse, Los Angeles): On the nose, it’s a little more muted. There is raisin and balsamic character, makes me think of Amarone. I also get a little bit of vine tomato. There is blackberry jam and a little black currant again. I don’t get as much spice. On the palate, it’s an interesting clash of freshness and acidity with really dark fruit flavours with black cherry and plum. The finish once again takes me back to Italy. Wow, what a tasting. 10/18

NobleRottersSydney - Henschke (Fix, St James, Sydney): {screwcap, 14.5%} [Andrew] Just so young, in tonight’s company. Maybe that had it as closed for me, because my notes are a bit scant. Ticks the medium boxes for structure (perhaps seems a bit warm on the palate). Spicy mien overall, but I thought it underwhelming. Maybe it does need another twenty years (they won’t hurt) but although it’s obviously a very fine wine it doesn’t justify the $250-ish that it costs nowadays.

Concentrated & complex Shiraz of great freshness and herbality. Organically and biodynamically farmed 111 year old single vineyard. Wine is aged for 18 months in 86% FR and 14% US oak, 26% new. Pronounced layered aroma of blackberries, blackcurrants, eucalyptus, plums, black pepper, herbal and medicinal notes of sage, bay leaf, meaty and tomato leaf hints. Full body, concentrated and complex intense and fresh flavours of black fruits, herbs, pepper, rich finely grained high tannins, medium acidity, long finish.

Palate a bit shot at the end if the wine tasting! Dark red. Nose ia chocolate with a touch of something brighter. Smooth mouth feel, smooth plum on middle. Not much spice but a touch of oak. Long finish that lingers
