Decanted prior to Thanksgiving dinner. Incredibly beautiful light orangey ruby. Totally transparent. Very much alive at 24 years of age. Muted nose of eucalyptus. Absolutely gorgeous in the mouth. This wine has all in harmony. Perfectly balanced and smooth. Layers of flavors, sweet red fruits, menthol, eucalyptus, some earth, minerals and leather. Vibrant acidity and a very long finish. Just sublime. This is why you cellar wine for a long time. Hats off to the Henschke's. My wife and I visited the winery in 1989 and I bought this bottle off of their mailing list when I lived down under. Brought back to the US and cellared ever since.

12% Alcohol. I prefer this over the HOG as this appears to be still kicking and screaming. A fresh earthy nose with a slight barnyard background that slowly developes to a more candied aroma. The secondary aromas is pretty developed but red fruits are still noticeable and this makes it very well balance. Very lively in the mouth with a thicker texture and more concentrated as compared to HOG. Firm tannins with a medium to long finish. This is pretty at the peak now and should be consume before it starts to slide downhill....

Wonderful mature Shiraz. Plenty of fruit and structure remain along with depth and complexity. Hint of jamminess turned candy on the finish. Medium-full bodied with a rich garnet edge. (7/00)

Wine Salon - November 2009 (Australia) (Chez Jahnke): Another brilliant wine. red fruits, mushrooms, earth, and tobacco leaf. Lovely elegance and real restraint. Freshness and poise. Winner.
