Tasted at Bern’s from a low shoulder fill bottle, this wine had a deep red center and reddish rims. The medium intensity nose was dusty and tight at first, but developed into a medium+ intensity nose of plum, violets, black spices, and soil.
In the mouth, this wine had plenty of fruit but fully resolved tannin and good acidity. It had a silky texture, Good length and was clearly alive.
Drink up ASAP.

I don't even know how to rate this wine. I drank it at Bern's (where else could you find an old chestnut like this?), where it has been resting since the '50s. It was astonishingly alive and really quite lovely. Delicate fruit remains with a whole panoply of tertiary flavors. Is it a blockbuster? Of course not. But it was made as the Great Depression was ending, and it gave great joy in 2022, which is enough of a triumph for me.
Brown colour. Scents of pine needles. In the mouth the wine showed clear signs of madeirization, although there was an interesting and nice sugar-like note on the mid-palate. Sour aftertaste. Hmm.

Not good. Disappointing given prior experiences.
