Decanted 3h before drinking. Medium nose, nice acidity and berry fruits on the palate. Not what I consider a typical Margaux, but still very enjoyable. No signs of age, but bot much power. Longer decanting time is warranted! medium finish.

A Diverse Set of Wines in Honor of a Visiting Friend (Los Olivos, CA): I adored this wine, showing what I think of as "gentle power." Plenty of firm acidity and structure, with sweet dark fruit notes on the nose and more on the palate along with some spice. Medium bodied, with mostly resolved tannin on the finish.

Second of 2 bottles, and tasting profile is as per last September note. I do realise that contrary to my last commentary, the wine does need a couple of hours in an open decanter to blossom. I think that 1988 was a decent vintage for the regional Margaux estates, and the wines in general are relatively good value.

Bordeaux first-growth lunch: Rather understated at lunch but it fully blossomed when I tried the remainder at dinner. An old-school restraint and elegance as with most '88s; gentle and soft but not lacking in backbone. A traditional claret that was in my wheelhouse.

(Chateau Margaux) #1; COLOR-dark; NOSE-good elegant fruit; sour cherry; very clean; little spearmint action; some dark cherry; some mulberry action; TASTE-great polish; I like this effort; some very young strawberries; a little tree bark; I like the elegance; nice Asian spice (paprika & rosemary); these little strawberries are taking it home for me; good long finish; good brightness of fruit; a very complex & thoughtful wine w/ dark, dark fruits; I really like the length; jammy, but not over the top; great polish and class; extremely well made; a great wine; can be cellared for another 5-10 years; a tremendous effort; RP-88; WS-95; GV-93
(Chateau Margaux) It had that 1988 quality of high tannin, high acid and somwhat lower toned fruit. It was good and I wish I could have had it on its own as I do not have that much experience with Chateau Margaux but that is the way the cookie crumbles.

Tasted like mouse droppings, mold and bad decision making. Huge disappointment and I have three more in the cellar. Argh.
