Double decanted. So dark and inky. "Margaux is all about perfume, lightness of touch and elegance. Pauillac is all about controlled power" says an authority next to me. The vintage was widely considered poor, but over time has proved to be elegant. I love how fragrant this is. Exquisitely expressive and rich. Still tannic and textured. Delicious but obviously not worth £300-400 or whatever. Silly really. Bit of eucalyptus and moist pipe tobacco here and there. Very good.

From memory. Nose is excellent, smokey, leather, dark fruit. For the nose it's 95 points. On the palate it shows it was a difficult year. Not rich, more on the lighter side. Some acidity. Not excited and a bit short. I will rate about 89 points on the palate. It took 30 minutes to open up and should drink soon, no need to wait.

Tasted against a mix of highly regarded wines, including an 09 JL Chave Hermitage, an 06 Colgin, a 2000 Leoville Las Cases, and a few vintages of SQN. The Margaux and the Chave Hermitage were the stars.

Quick pour brief impressions. Youthful and primary, quite alot of grip still. Black cherry, blueberries, violets and peppers. Polished and clean.

You need to give this wine about 20 minutes in the glass to open up. Be patient and you will be rewarded with a lovely wine...classic Margaux.
