Representative of this region and testament to old world elegance. Dark burgundy colour with a crimson hue. We didn't get to decant this wine prior to taking it to a restaurant. Nevertheless, as soon as the cork was popped there were pleasant aromas of dried berry fruits and liquorice, with hints of dusty earthiness. A well structured wine which is drinking well now, with further aging potential.

no proper notes - Absolutely beautiful, nice powefull fruit of dark berries, very well balanced with the high %, quite smooth with ripe tannins, complex and concentrated with long finish. Outstanding quality, 93-94p with long potential for agening.

Tasted non blind.

Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Muted nose of camphor, tacl and yellow pear. Flavors of yellow pear and yellow apple. Medium acidity, medium body. Drink or hold.

Popped and slow oxed for 12 hours before dinner. Modern styled as the wine was dense and rich. Nothing rough or tannic about the wine. Glossy ripe black fruits and a rock candy sweetness I typically find in Grenache. Still a baby, I'm not sure what lied underneath the fat but it's pretty darn tasty right now if you like the style.

Lovely. Quite understated. A touch of dark red fruit and faint garrigue. It's shed its exuberant gloss, slight sweetness, and the sense of alcohol it once had around the edges. A solid ***1/2

Dorato. Al naso marazapane, albicocca e pesca gialla, pepe, finocchietto selvatico, tiglio, miele, kumquat candito, zenzero, resina. Bocca intensa, grassa, minerale (quasi salata). Tipicamente ammandorlato nel finale

Second of 6 I have and these seem to be hitting their stride and probably won't get much better given the vintage. Calmed down since the last one and more integrated with less heat after about 45 minutes. Dark fruits, funk and barnyard there. Easy to drink though alcohol is present. Drink soon.

This will only get better with time. Opened and let sit (no decant) for a good 2 hours. Then just improved over the course of the next 2 hours. Classic CDP, with a bright nose, great fruit and a velvety finish. Can't wait to drink the next one on about 2 years.

Consistent with my previous bottles, there is an enormous amount of "fizz" upon opening (which I have found on many occasions with other southern Rhone wines). After shaking out the fizz (shaking the bottle with the palm of my hand covering the opening and then slightly opening my palm to allow the fizz to escape...like shaking and releasing fizz from a bottle of Coca-Cola), it's an excellent bottle of Chateauneuf!

Acker Auction - March (Rebelle in NYC): Just an incredibly young wine and still finding it's feet. Dark red fruit, very ripe, touches of pepper, more fruit forward than the Rioja right before it (where I didn't unfortunately record the name). But not over the top (like the Brune et Blonde which came right after).

This was a little disappointing, particularly for a Spectator WOTY. Nose was enticing, but the flavor and mouthfeel were much thinner than I expected. Not as robust as I would expect from a top CdP. The finish was clipped with an odd chalkiness. Bad bottle? Maybe, but none of the usual symptoms of a spoiled bottle.

A stunning bottle with everything going on. This is entering a sweet spot. Huge nose that matched the palate...dark fruit, wet leaves, touch of menthol, spices, flowers..great acidity....the only thing that detracted from it was the heat. It was noticeable and almost worked with the huge but very balanced wine.

Popped and poured. This is an energetic, medium-red wine. The nose is explosive, ever-changing, but great throughout, with scents of kirsch, garrigue, raspberry, cherries, and the rest of the red fruit spectrum. The mouth is rich and lush, with very enjoyable wild and sappy fruit flavors, leaving a lingering finish of red fruits and scrubland. Simply put, this is an awesome wine. It gushes with everything – great nose, mouth, finish, the whole deal. I love Clos des Papes; with the exception of an overripe 2003, I have never had a bad bottle – this is my “desert island” wine. The 2005 is in perfect shape now, but also has room to grow. 96 points.

decanted one hour prior to tasting/drinking over 2 hours, this does need time to open as at first seemed too thin/sharp, but later this evolved into a decently bodied yet burgundian style of wine. Not overly complex but glad to have more.

Wonderful rich nose with a hint of old world charm. Brambles, dried red berries, touch of cassis, and Anise all very well integrated into a backbone of balanced tannins. Great finish. 375 bottle. Improved over the 2 hours we enjoyed. Wish I had more then my remaining 2. Drinking well now and probably will be for the next 8-15 years.
