10/6/23, 9:54 AM - Decanted for 2 hours and drank it over another 3 hours.
1/17/23, 7:34 AM - I thought it was at or slightly past its' peak.
1/17/23, 7:32 AM - Thanks. I fixed it.
1/17/23, 7:31 AM - I'm not sure it will improve any more but it will hold in a good spot for a while.
1/14/22, 2:40 PM - They had a magnum of his pinot noir for about $40 but I missed it.
11/23/21, 8:36 AM - I found it at Binny's in the Chicago area.
12/3/20, 8:01 AM - Most of them have been orange wines and I have never been a fan of the oxidative style that so often accompanies aging in clay.
5/6/20, 1:47 PM - I follow the wineries in SW Michigan much closer than up North since I have a vineyard near South Haven so I'll confine my recommendations to the SW part of the State. I really like how Modales has started out. They only opened their tasting room a year ago but have some impressive wines. Also White Pine, Karma Vista and Dablon have some nice wines but not at the same level as Wyncroft. I'll be revisiting a lineup from Hickory Creek for the first time since they came under new ownership in the next few days and will post notes.
6/17/20, 2:04 PM - Never visited that winery. Passed it by many times but never stopped in. They specialize in Rhone varietals which in my opinion are not the best suited grapes for SW Michigan. I will visit at some point.
5/2/19, 1:50 PM - Of the 3 you mentioned, I would lean toward the Sonnenberg. Although my favorite vineyard in the Ahr would be the Krauterberg near Walporzheim. The Garkammer vineyard near Walporzheim is also very special but it is a monopole site and only Adeneuer makes wines from there.
4/12/19, 9:21 AM - The first time I had this was in 2010 and we decanted it for 2 hours. I think a minimum of 4 hours decanting would be optimal at this point.
1/2/19, 10:48 AM - I talked to Jim Lester about the gunpowder aroma. He says it is sulfur compounds trapped in the bottle. I sulfured the wine on 9/15 and bottled on 9/24 before fermentation was finished. Normally sulfur would blow off in an open air fermentation. Nothing I can do about it now. If I make this again, I'll have to go more natural and not sulfur the wine (which acts as a preservative).
12/9/18, 7:58 AM - Only tried it early although it was the last of the 3 Champagne I tried
10/16/18, 2:57 PM - Yes much better values. As you could probably guess my wife bought this when we visited Veuve back in 2013. I was glad to open it with some friends for their anniversary since they like overpriced industrial Champagne.
10/16/18, 3:01 PM - Paid $100 for this. If you want a better bottle for less money. HDH currently has the 2008 Launois Special Club for $65. This is the last Special Club that Launois will ever make as they have now left the Club. 2008 is an outstanding year in Champagne.
8/6/18, 10:33 AM - Whites certainly do better than Reds in Michigan but there are some very good reds being made in Southwest Michigan. Wyncroft makes excellent Pinot Noir, Cabernet and Merlot. I am biased though since I own a Pinot Noir vineyard in Southwest Michigan. Nonetheless, Southwest Michigan has a long way to go but the growth in vineyard acreage and number of producers has really taken off.
9/22/17, 9:27 AM - I think you can drink this now through 2022.
4/28/17, 7:52 AM - This was the 2nd of my 3 bottles. The 1st bottle showed similarly. I bought these in 2015 from a retailer who was closing them out for $16. I suspect poor storage before I bought them might be the culprit.
3/24/17, 8:40 AM - Kind words. Thanks.
3/16/17, 8:42 AM - This note is from 4 months ago but I recall thinking this wine was astringent with harsh edges and shallow at this young age.
2/27/17, 8:28 AM - We visited the Ahr Valley last year and tasted at Adeneuer, Jean Stodden and Kreuzberg. This introductory level pinot is a very good value.
2/13/17, 9:29 AM - I fixed it. I was using the iphone app at first and touched the sliding scale for the score which registered a 100 by accident. Wrote some additional notes later in the night to adjust my score.
12/12/16, 12:28 PM - Yes. They have always been that shape.
12/1/16, 9:29 AM - I fixed my note. What was the bottle you said was leftover from the night before?
11/28/16, 1:26 PM - Good one.
11/13/16, 7:57 AM - Wasn't thinking of posting. Didn't think there would be much interest
9/23/16, 1:56 PM - Alexandre and Olivier have changed the blend after the 1st vintage. The 2009 was 50/50. The 2011 and 2012 are 100% Meunier. From the website: http://champagnesalmon.com/collection-special-club/
6/2/16, 2:30 PM - Room for improvement.
1/25/16, 2:59 PM - I tried it without knowing how long it had been open. So when I tried it I was expecting something more. Anwar then asked me to guess how long it had been opened and my guess was 2 weeks.
12/4/15, 1:51 PM - Yeah. Hold. I have 10 more bottles so I can open one sometime. Half owner?
7/31/15, 8:35 AM - I pulled it to open it this weekend and put this preliminary info into CT.
3/13/15, 9:09 AM - This is the 6th Neri BdM that I've had (all different vintages) and the 1st flawed bottle so they have a good track record and I wouldn't worry too much.
3/13/15, 9:05 AM - Hope you enjoyed your meal at Oceana.FYI there's a space for private notes on the drink or remove page I think section 3.Cheers
1/23/15, 7:47 AM - If you don't mind me asking, how do you know the bottle you had was 2008 fruit? I've been looking for the 2008 based version of this wine but thought that the 2004 was the latest one out. Where did you buy this?
1/26/15, 8:10 AM - Likely hasn't hit any stores in the US then. We visited with Olivier Bonville in Sept 2013 and he opened the Belle Voyes sourced from the 2004 vintage back then. I was a little surprised that he bottled his 2008 based LBV already.
1/23/15, 7:52 AM - Quite a few people on CT write the same thing to me and proceed to tell me how I should be using CT.
1/23/15, 7:49 AM - My note from 2006 is on the site. Here it is again: "I bought this wine for $35 at auction. WS gave it a 93 and WA a 90. I decanted it for about an hour before we drank it. It improved as it sat in its bottle during the night. It was moderately tannic and medium bodied. Notes of blueberry and kirsh. Drinking well now. 91 points."
12/15/14, 12:38 PM - I don't think there is anything political about my tasting note. The reference to "gangstas" relates to the fact that this house is now owned by gangsta rapper JayZ and is featured prominently in gangsta rap videos.
12/3/14, 8:14 AM - 2004 was not the best vintage in sauternes. I would be comfortable holding this for 15-20 years after the vintage. So 2024. After that I think the wine will start to fade.
12/3/14, 8:10 AM - This is not a wine to age. It will be best while young and fresh. That being said, I would wait a few months before drinking to let it settle in the bottle since it was only recently bottled in September.
12/3/14, 8:07 AM - I'm not a fan of aging NV champagne. I would drink them within a year or 2 max of purchase.
8/11/14, 10:09 AM - I guess it could be ready the other way but the brisket was the food pairing.
12/5/13, 7:17 AM - Somehow I missed this wine at the dinner?
11/5/13, 7:15 AM - Chris claims he brought this.
10/9/13, 1:47 PM - I think it could be less helpful if I hadn't included a score.
5/10/13, 2:55 PM - This wine will definitely last several more years.
2/7/13, 8:36 AM - No. I just thought it was closed down.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
