Fresh and bright! At first the fruit was a bit muted, but with a little air it became far more expressive. Piercing acidity, and lovely complexity and depth. Very cool!

The nose is pretty with notes of honey, citrus, cheese, hay, and green apples. It's mature and complex, but not tired. Good acidity on the palate with more lemon notes, apples, and more honey. Generally, the palate felt a bit fresher than the nose. Quite long finish. A very nice experience and a lovely wine that is definitely fully mature now.

Simply wow. The very wet cork and break at the end when pulling had me worried. The initial bitterness kept my excitement in check. But 2 hours into the session, this beauty was dancing, light golden colour, honey apricot notes, dry balance with lingering acidity still. Might just hunt down another despite the cork risk

From an excellent looking bottle, this wine had a deep yellow center and clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose generated apricot, apple, honey, and mineral notes.
In the mouth, this wine was quite ripe with crisp acidity and very good length. Several blind tasters guessed Burgundy. However, while the texture was somewhat like a white Burg, the flavor profile was not.
Amazingly, this took a couple hours to open up. While it would need a bit more complexity on the mid-palate to be elite, it was a special and enjoyable wine.

This wine is not for everyone but I loved it especially with the halibut course. There is some ripe fruit but this is all about the unique mineral notes evoked by this incredible terroir. Great purity and cut with a grippy, wet stone finish. Perfectly mature for me tonight but it clearly will continue to evolve for decades.

Golden with some hints of amber, has a lush quince jelly nose an while showing some of that on the palate it much more dominant in the stony and mineral elements. Showed great freshness and not as much of the maderization as I would expect. The big surprise was it being much more ready to drink within 30 mins of getting air. Often with this wine it isn't ready on the first night and is only showing well on night two or even three. As always I kept about a third which was diminished slightly on the second night so we finished it. Still lovely if at cellar temperature, but not quite as fresh.

Small glass at Quince. Interesting bottle variation as one of the several opened with a considerable pop making me think it might in fact be a champagne. Nose of old shoe. Complex mouth, surprisingly fresh and alive for being 30 years old with no sign of oxidation. A wine to ponder over. And of course not for everyone; neither of my dining mates could finish their pours.

Golden. This is still lovely and enjoyable, esp. if you think of the price payed in the early nineties. Light with medium intensity, but elegant and complex enough to provide pleasure. But also enjoyable for its style which is more a question of taste. My notes on this are inconsistent. However, with some air, of course without decant, it blossoms. Apple, almonds, hay, citrus, toast, fermenting hay. 5/13/17/8. Unique, but with limited future I guess. -2025 if perfectly stored since release like this bottle.

Nicolas Joly Coulee de Serrant 1962 - 1995: Day 1 - poured through Coravin: Lots of white fruit here, it is also smoky, not unlike other CdS from 80s and especially 86. Aromatics of beef jerky and bourbon, old oak plays its part probably. Great
Day 2 - the bottle is opened: There's vegetable broth and carrots on the nose, as well as wet cigarettes, which is peculiar.

Belle couleur jaune d'or, limpide, lumineux même.

Nicolas Joly, one of the pioneer for Bio-Dynamic farming, certified back in 1984! Oldest vines were planted in 1920. He believes that Chenin Blanc can only fully express the deep personalities through a fairly advance maturity which contains some noble rots.
The 1990 was opened at 12pm, decanted at 7pm and served 2-3hrs later. Amazingly youthful. Great depth on both nose and palate, this is a "quiet" wine and you need to pay attention to get the full detail. Pure and elegance w great length. Will continue to evolve for another decade, effortlessly. 👍👍

This is by far the best bottle i had so far. It shows more vigor and intensity than previous bottles, more poise and character. Golden colour. Hay, grass, pear, apple, lot of minerals, but first there is a striking smell of animal notes and wet fermenting grass and hay (others said manure) that calmed down after some minutes. The aging potential of this white is really exceptionel. It's not especially fun to drink this. It's just an experience. If the cork holds out this seems to be immortal. I never had younger vintages of this. May be the style has changed significantly, but this is everything, but not oxidative in style.

golden colour. Hay, grass, pear, apple, minerals and thank god always quickly vanishing: hints of pissoir. This is without a doubt a unique wine, but in contrast to Trevallon or Musar e. g. there is less power, less complexity and less, above all, fun. Of course nobody, me for sure, believes in further positiv evolution, which was even absent in the last decade. How many wines are out there delivering more pleasure at a fifth or less the price? There are oceans of it. But obviously the producers of these bargains are not as great showmakers as Nicolas Joly is.

An enlightening vertical of Clos de la Coulée de Serrant (Racines, NYC): A bit closed aromatically, but this was beautiful on the palate, with notes of quince, peach, grapefruit and other assorted citrus fruits. The acids were razor sharp and precise, really palate-scraping, but not austere. This improved with air, and the fruit became a bit more "yellow" and plumper. A clean, focused and energetic wine.

Coulée de Serrant-a-thon: 1967 - 1990. (Racines, NYC): Smells and tastes like yellow, with a wealth of quince, ginger, pineapple and mineral flavors and aromas. It's expansive and rich across the palate with present, but subdued acids lending to a rich mouthfeel. There's just a bit of an oxidized note, but nothing to get worked up over. The fruit grew nicely with air and there's just a touch of alcohol showing on the finish. A lovely showing. A-.

There's lots of plasticine and rubber in the beginning on the nose. It somewhat subsides with time giving place to quince and dense white fruits. Palate is dense and concentrated, there's ginger and quince as well as some oak. Overall this seemed somewhere in between the overwhelming but mellow end of 90s style and chemicaly oxidative 00s style.

Coulée de Serrant - 1990 - 1999 and more Loire (Huet, Closel, Landron) (Home): Brass colour. In the nose, this is quite unpleasant at first: there's a public toilet smell, wet hay, a LOT of bee's wax, some wet wool. Once you get used to it, there are more pleasant nuances: creamy-spicy notes of Kurkuma and Saffran in cream, cold pipe smoke with vanilla. On the palate, it's absolutely clear and bright with great structure, lively acidity, a bit waxy. Creamy-yellow spicy notes as well. Tonic finish. This wine is the antithesis of fruit, there's a complete absence of anything that would even faintly remind of anything fruity. I love it for what it is.

Cork was completely saturated, with a bit of mildew under the capsule. Very deep golden color, which was quite shocking to behold, but the smell and taste of the wine was much younger. No real oxidization. Nose was that of wet soil, slight funk, but opened up to soil with pears. Tasted of pears and lychee, with that bit of humous as well. Unusual wine, but very good, even before the food. Strong acidity but with a roundness as well. as the wine opened, it became more honeyed while still being bone dry. Over time, a faint bit of mildew on the very back end, but this was definitely not corked - probably from the actual mildew under the capsule. Flavors were rich and complex. Went well with rich foods. Plenty more time ahead, but drinking well now.

Of the 3 vintages I tasted (1986, 1988 and 1990) this was the most sweet and complete wine. Good acidity as well. A beautiful composition of sweet tropical fruits and citrus acidity with a lot of minerals and pleasant bitterness. A luxurious, complex and outstanding wine.

Women of Wine - Whites tasting (Matasar's): Medium golden yellow. Big white licorice nose with bristly spice. Tight highly perfumed butterscoth on the palate, but somehow awkward and unbalanced.
