Beautiful barnyard notes floating off the top of this fully mature wine. Cool notes of old cellar and clay remind me of really old school boned wines at the beginning of my love affair with the matured wines of the region. Long caressing finish that leaves dry and light footed. Its still in the elegant phase. Drink

Amazingly enough this was practically unchanged since the last time I tried one in 2014: forest fruits, yeast and leather on the nose, then a thick, chewy mouthful of plum, cranberry and cherry. Still quite youthful, but a little rustic, compact and even rather stodgy. No hurry if your cellar is cold, plenty of years ahead, but I doubt it will improve much - a perfectly decent wine but neither a particularly good Nenin nor a particularly good 2000.

Friday Night Double Blind Tasting $40+ (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): Dark core with larger brick garnet rim; stank, Bordeaux, cigar tobacco, getting to that black truffle zone, a bit leaner and tannic, drying out a bit, funk, tilled earth, good producer off year, '98 Clerc?

Don's 50th: Dark and rich, with some toughness left still. Drinking well now, but could continue to age without problem. Lots of dark fruit concentration with decent acidity, and still some tannins remaining. Nice example of Pomerol from a good year at a reasonable price.

Earth, pencil, graphite on the nose with fruit somewhere behind them. The fruit remained restrained on the palate but began to come forward four or five hours after the initial P&P, when it showed itself as dark plum. Absent the fruit during the first few hours, the wine was a big graphite and mineral experience. The flavor seemed to plateau on the mid-palate and remained through the finish. Low acidity.
Good wine but lacking in fruit and complexity, especially at the $100 price point.

Of all the Nenin vintages I was able to taste, I'm scoring this a perfect 100/100. I couldn't find any fault last night, this is THE BEST Nenin wine I have ever had. ( chosen from a large range of vintages tasted 1990-2010 ).
No formal notes taken during this hedonistic moment last night, only fond memories. That abundant aroma rising from the glass, followed by a rich and sexy feeling in mouth. Enjoying this wine, all the wine down into the belly ... pinching every drop from the bottle.
But ... I cannot score it 100 here ... as there are other wines ( some Pomerol ) topping this. Hence, I've chosen to put up a 95/100 here ... believe that to be correct.
But ladies and gentlemen ... scout all corners of the earth to find this vintage and simply try it !

13.5% alcohol. 73% merlot 27% cab franc. Decanted. Last tasted 2-08. A great vintage, but this isn't a great wine. I previously scored it 91, and I can only surmise that there was more abundant primary fruit that kept the heavy tannin subdued. Nine years later the fruit has receded, but the tannin remains. Mocha/coffee notes and very mild bell pepper. I find this dull and unexciting. I presume some will consider this closed or needing more time based on the vintage. No. It's never going to flesh out or get better. I think I drank it near peak in 08. Drink up, and don't save it for a special occasion.

Cellared since release, perfect cork and fill. Dark red core, lightening at rim. Dark fruits, cedar/tobacco, strong note of iodine on the nose. Full-bodied with dark ripe fruit, good balance, still tannic on the finish. The next day the iodine note is replaced by more dark fruits and the palate feel trends towards lush with a mellowed finish. Excellent.

Plummy dark fruits, nice fuzzy sides from some age, has acquired some secondary elements like a light dusting of dried spice atop the plummy fruit. Really quite solid. Still plenty of vigor. NYE 2014/2015, at Barbounia before Elton John at Barclays.

Same as just prior, not first note, prob because of decant. Very good Pomerol, had at small fairly authentic French bistro in So Florida went very nicely with duck, pompano. Drinking too quickly. Gave this one a day to breath. Poor cellar management- too easy to get at, and should be more measured in consumption. Overall means we have enjoyed it and keep reaching for it.

First time trying a wine from this chateau. The wine was fresh and approachable upon opening, but did improve after a one hour decant. The nose was fairly typical Pomerol, with bright red fruits, spice, dark chocolate, and cedar. As someone else just noted, there is not as much chocolate as I find in other modern Pomerols. A little light on the mid-palate. More enjoyable on the nose than palate. Nicely balanced with round tannins, but a little tart acidity on the medium finish. Not a stunner, but I look forward to trying this again. I'm curious to see if this improves over the next few years.

Dark, plummy fruit, a touch of herb, dark cherries, impression of chocolate-dipped cherries that I often get in Pomerol and other Merlot-based wines, but this bottle is not quite there in its chocolate-y-ness. Round, supple, the palate is smooth and nicely integrated, the tannins are still still there but they are soft and plush. Drinking very nicely now in terms of its mouthfeel and its texture, although it's not especially complex. With David in Scarsdale and huge steaks off the grill.

Beautiful wine with heavy leather, tar, cedar and dark berry nose and flavors.....Nicely balanced, great dark color, and although cork was quite soft, it sealed perfectly and didn't come apart when pulled. This was Bordeaux as is often wished for, as it was ready to drink and very balanced....interesting note was that it seemed viscous and somewhat delicate at the same time. Barolo like in the heavy tar qualities, but really a nice experience to drink. Wish I had another.
Once again, this wine impressed. Served next to 1996 Trotanoy this wine shined with exoticness and beautiful and seamless integration of fruit, wood, and earth. The Pomerol factor is not as pronounced as one hopes, but the wine is perfect and begging to be drank. Medium long finish, with silk back end. I Like again...

Forest fruits, yeast and leather on the nose, then a thick, chewy mouthful of plum, cranberry and cherry, still very primary, in a cloak of quite astringent tannins with a yeasty, slightly chocolatey finish. The yeast does eventually fade, leaving a promising second wave of ripe berry flavours. I should have decanted this. Very youthful still, this needs at least three more years, possibly more. I think it should develop into a very good bottle, but probably not a great one.

Cellared since release. Perfect cork and fill. Pop and pour, drunk over 2 evenings. Dark red to rim. Dark fruits, plums, earthy and floral notes on the nose. Full body, lots of ripe fruit, good balance, tannins on back palate with medium-long finish. Smoother with persistence of fruit and mellowing of tannins to show even better on day 2. Should drink well for many years to come. Excellent.

Beautiful nose, with strong notes of cinnamon, clove, and tobacco. Tannins have softened nicely. Slightly bitter finish, which was not to my liking but tolerable.
Normally with Bordeaux, I decant young wines (< 5 years) for three to four hours and slightly older wines (6-10 years) for one to two hours. With the 2000 Nenin, the nose was so concentrated and prominent that, not willing to risk its fading through over-oxygenation, I simply popped it open two hours before drinking and then decanted thirty minutes before drinking.

Le Pin tasting at Metro. A nice 2000 Pomerol. Beautiful ruby in appearance, notes of spice, flower, tobacco leaves, minerality and licorice on the nose. Soft entrance to the palate, plum, mocha, leather notes are there to be found, tannins have softened quite a bit, good balance but lacking some concentration, mid palate is also on the light side. An easy, tasty Pomerol, can use some more time in the cellar and hopefully will gain some complexity and roundness.

Decanted and let it sit for 1 hour. First taste revealed big forest floor flavor and more subtle ripe fruit. Over the next couple hours, the forest floor flavor settled to a nice balance with the bright ripe fruit. Moderate acidity. Soft tannins. Good structure. Great Bordeaux for the price and ready to drink now.

The fill was into the neck and the cork was sound; opened (but not decanted) about 1 hour before dinner. Notes of chocolate, flower and ripe black fruits. Double-decanted for approx 10 hours at room temperature prior to serving from the bottle. The small taste immediately after opening showed some rough tannins but this smoothed out quite nicely. Bouquet is complex showing red fruit, creamy oak and minerals. The palate is medium bodied with dark fruit and mineral complexity. Nice finish. Kept getting better...maybe a little early in the drinking window but I'm already looking forward to the next bottle. 92+

A little fuzzy on this and was not taking notes. Chocolate and dark fruit, broader mouthfeel, still a good bit of tannin, I was in St. Emilion and younger; good.

Drinking nicely on PNP -my notes were to wait, but wife popped this one that I had in our kitchen cooler, revealing rich tasting, fills the mouth with its flavors and length. Can't account for the extremes in impression but it's a very good wine.

Pnp. Needs more time. After about four or more hours, began to open with more and more revealed with each taste, and each reveal more and more likable. Note to self - wait another year or so, follow CT notes.

Excellent.

Blend with a typical Pomerol color, medium body, smooth at taste with hints of dark chocolate and black berries. Recommend it.

Still a youthful red-purple
Subtle nose, red fruits. Not much else
Palate: follows nose, subtle but nice red fruits. Refreshing. Finishes with a stem-y bitterness.
Overall, a nice wine but nothing special. Drinking well now, will be fine in the bottle for a fewer years.
Notes: much improved after being open for several hours. Should have decanted. Also, considerable sediment in my bottle

Rich and dark, with smooth velvety tannins, well-resolved. Tastefully done oak. Overall, well balanced and refined. Significantly improving with time - a glass left overnight for the next day showed greater complexity, while retaining balance.

Decanted a few hours and it needs it. Lots of ripe fruit, tobacco, lead pencil shavings, leather and dark chocolate notes. Very refined and smooth. Love the nose on this. Long finish. It's right there. Hard not to love this Pomerol. Classic. Drink now-2020.

The fill was into the neck and the cork was sound; opened (but not decanted) about 1 hour before dinner. Notes of chocolate, flower and ripe black fruits. This bottle was much more opulent and lush than the previous two times I've had this wine, and their seems to be a fair degree of botle variation.

It shows a serious amount of subtle aromas and flavors of tobacco, cherry and chocolate character. Full-bodied, with velvety, ripe tannins and a long and caressing finish. Yummy already. Hard to hold back. This is one of the best Nenins I have tasted in decades. Best after 2010.

The fill was into the neck and the cork was pristine. This was better than previous bottles, with an outgoing bouquet of ripe black fruits, fennel, chocolate and spice. Medium-bodied, with good balance, velvety texture, fine depth, and impressive focus on the long finish.
