No extensive notes. Moderate and subdued red fruit (raspberry), with lower acidity and just a hint of funk. Nice but this bottle was somewhat tired tonight and certainly past peak.

No alc on label. Pale and glorious. A great bottle. So light and ethereal of the palate. Gloriously aromatic and a twist of spice in the finish. Compelling. Funny it only gets a WA89 score.

Same btl as R&Rler tonight. Semi translucent red color with bricking. Said to have been splash double decanted & immediately recorked earlier in the day. This was perfectly resolved and "left nothing in the ring" tonight. My clear red of night! An explosion of garrigue and decaying fruit on the nose. Elegant, fading red fruit, damp forest floor, herbs, tobacco leaf and more. Tremendous tertiary depth! Thanks Candice for finding recently and sharing! This btl proves that a few great CDP producers like VT wines can benefit from extended btl age. Worth seeking out some of these from the 90s & 80s.

Making the Most of Dinner Without Dad (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Medium dark red color with an 8mm bricked transitional margin. Splash double decanted and immediately recorked earlier in the day. Drank one glass over an hour plus. For reference, go back and read Keith Aker's note from 3/21/09 for context - he writes a great note on this back then. This was stunning, head turning, gripping. The nose immediately captures your attention, wafting forth in a Provencal perfume of herbs, leather, and delicate spice, pencil, char and tobacco, garrigue, cherry and currant. The palate is beautifully sublime with dried forest floor, pencil herbs, charcoal, bright cherry, leather and elegance. Medium bodied, with resolved tannins and a 30 plus second finish. I loved this!! Thanks Candie for scoring the one bottle available and sharing it.

20+ CDP Dinner (Bristol): Such an experience to taste this alongside the 78 VT. To me not as fresh and more spice driven. A touch more bricking. Beautiful wine with less acid. Still has 5+ years ahead of it.

Medium-light garnet-red, much sedimentation. Piquant and earthy nose of garrigue, boiled beef, soy sauce, greek olives, cranberry, leather and wisp of smoke. On arrival, light tannin and medium acidity, tilted up a click more with an hour's time. Elegant and narrow in the mouth, fruit all gone, but just as our host expected, this old fellow went well with a oak-grilled herbed rock fish, the last of our yard's corn, (red) bell peppers and cucumbers.

This wine was a pleasant surprise. I wasn't expecting much and the cork didn't fare well, but the wine turned out to have plenty of life. The fruit was still vibrant and overall the wine was balanced. The nose had plenty of grilled meat and spice. I should note that the wine improved significantly after 2 hours.

Deep and meaty, ripe and sexy, mature yet fresh and full of vitality, a juicy core, sneaky power, and altogether one of the most sensual bottles I've drunk this year. I fear I may be underscoring it.
This bottle was pristine. Fill was excellent, just above base-neck. Cork was soaked through and came apart upon opening, the bottom portion ending up in the wine.
Drunk at Prezza Boston, where the fire last summer clearly did not impact this bottle. I was told that the cellar was unaffected save some slight water damage to a few labels, and remained cool even as the fire raged back in the kitchen.

Andrew's Birthday (Jade Palace, Forum): I get lots of sweet cherries and this wine personifies the Burgundian power without weight. Very pure and terroir-driven, I enjoyed this much more than the Beaucastel 1983 tasted together.
2010 Simple Dinner Series No.9 – Rhone God’s Birthday (Jade Palce @ The Forum Shopping Mall): Alcohol :: NA Lively med ruby core. Simply super perfume nose that is refine, elegance and vibrant though not as deep as 83 Beaucastel. Fragrance red flower, roasted meat, game intermixed with lots of sweet fig paste, peppery spices and expand a little bit more with touch of american bubble gum touch and barnyard that complete the seductive, complex aromatic profile. Very much alive on the palate, quite sweet entry with sweet red cherry fruits and dried fig paste, super silky also offer good harmony with mineral infuse, soft persistent juicy finish with touch of barnyard aftertaste. Buy - Maybe.

Monday night at Apiary (good food, lousy service). High shoulder fill. Cork was so wet and soft that it had to pushed into the bottle, which was easy to do. I had little hope for this wine. Light rust in the glass. Initial nose of mushrooms, wet leaves and a little bit of cheese, which mostly blew off leaving tobacco, Provence herbs and red berry notes. Seamless on the palate, with some red fruits, tobacco and roasted meats. Beautiful, harmonious, lucky -- great bottle.

No expectations here. Looked cloudy in the bottle. Cork was depressed and soaked. Removed cork pieces and decanted for heavy sediment. Color was brown/orange/brick and appearance was still a bit cloudy. Nose said something else altogether - fresh, rich and inviting. Taste was definitely mature but complex and still showed acid, tannin and fruit. A tiny hint of raisiny age. This was a treat, as I've never tasted a CdP over 25 years old. Even during the course of the meal, it did not go downhill and truly complemented a great steak.

Beaucastel Vertical 81-01 (Gurnee IL, Jordan's house): nose: this is a holy shit type nose. Insanely deep with all sorts of garrigue, black fruits, earthen tones, spices, black cherries and just jam packed with tellicherry peppercorns. This is the kind of nose that makes your eyes roll into the back of your head and the layering is just off the charts
taste: this is pure sex in the mouth. wow, just wow ridiculously layered feel with all sorts of black cherries, dark red fruits, loads of peppercorns and herbs with a touch of roasted beef tones that form the base
overall: mind blowing. The layering on the wine is off the charts and this is a Telegraphe that takes you to a completely different level. This nearly left me speechless and I just sat there with the glass for a while to soak in the moment

last minute pull, so opened and intially drank right from cellar. Screaming right from the get go. The nose is down right explosive. Notes of dirty diaper, dried flowers, leather, wild cheeries, charchol amd smoke, maybe a touch of orange peel, and another one of those undescribable perfumes that makes a wine stretch over some kind of line from good to great. In the mouth there are no serious distractions. The balance seems to be fine, maybe a little tannic vis a vie a lack of fruit- fine with me as I think if it was any bigger or fleshier/fruitier it wouldn't drink the same. The finish goes on and on.A great example of old world sexy!!!!!! I have one left but as soon as the wife lets the wine purchases pick up I will buy more to be sure...

In immaculate condition and only just about approaching maturity - a little brick at the rim but not much. Not profound on the nose, nice smoky red fruits. The flavour has just the final remaining hint of pepper but blossoms into a lovely sweet fruited mature chateauneuf after a couple of hours in the decanter. Long and lingering. Lovely wine and 5-10 years more to go here.

Vieux Telegraphe Vertical Dinner (Rubicon, San Francisco): Lighter, resolved color with pale rim. Very forward, high toned, floral nose without giving the impression of high VA. This bottle was in perfect shape. Deep nose of game, leather and dark fruit. On the palate, gorgeous texture and balance, with notes of game, leather and smoke. Showing beautifully and in no way over the hill or dried out. Blind, I might have guessed this was an '89 or '90 Chateauneuf. Obviously fully mature, but I'd bet it will last for a few more years in this state. Note: tasted from several different glasses, the Schott Zwiesel Top Ten series "Full Bodied Red" stem seemed to flatter this wine the most - and it actually seemed younger in that glass. Also a good showing from the Schott Zwiesel Enoteca series Rioja glass, which surpassed the Riedel Sommelier Hermitage glass, which would normally have been my go-to for this wine...
