Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of several hours. The 2010 Mount Eden Estate Pinot Noir is simply beautiful…but then again, I tend to be a sucker for light handed, Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir. The wine pours a very pretty ruby color with a slightly hazy, translucent core. Medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is still developing with a lovely mix of high-toned red fruits: slightly bruised strawberries, raspberries, with mushrooms, forest floor and mild warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, elegant and by all rights, gorgeous. Drink now and over the next 7+ years, easy.

Didn’t know I had this bottle. Last one was 2017. This wine is VERY young and VERY GOOD. I’d hold this another 5-10 years or give it lots of air. This is a classic, one of the best in the US. Well done.

Amazing wine, world class pinot. Incredibly aromatic nose of ripe pinot fruit and cloves. Silky, powerful, and weightless; enveloping rich dark cherry fruit on the palate with a hint of cola. Long finish.

Quite stemmy. It really draws all attention to it overwhelming the fruit. Quite light bodied. I was a bit shocked at just how translucent it is. I initially thought some air might let the fruit step up to the mic but this is just about the same on night two. The overall expression is clearly in the "Burgundian" camp with the stems, iron notes and prominent acidity. Its also solidly in its secondary phase. Given the other notes there seems to be some variability in either the wine or the taster's tolerance for this mode of expression. The AFWE geek in me wanted to enjoy this more than I did. I spent much more time trying to figure out what was going on in place of getting lost in the experience.

Light garnet. Red plums, walnuts, roses and rose petals on the nose. Deep penetrating aromatic sweet and sour fruit on the palate, winding and wonderful with a strong lemon acid finish, balanced by back aromas of maple syrup and maple bark. A lovely wine, redolent with memories of a 1969 vintage at JAMS in New York in the 80s with Jonathan Waxman’s chicken and french fries. Perfect tonight with pan fried halibut, peas, Time Market sourdough bread and hollandaise sauce.

An Epic Summer Wine Weekend; 7/1/2022-7/3/2022 (Muskoka, Ontario, Canada): This wine just keeps getting better! It pours lightly cloudy, medium ruby. The nose is insane from first pop. Aromas are of seaweed, ginger, incense, rose petal, cherry, sandalwood, blood orange zest, tilled wet earth, alpine herbs, and pomegranite. The palate is lovely balancing the large scaled and wide open California fruit against the savoury earthy components. It enters on lush pomegranite and cherry fruit, turning to all the savoury spice, herbs and earth. Quite saline on the finish. Structurally this shows medium minus tannin and medium plus, blood orange tinged acid. Just incredible stuff and my all time favourite Mount Eden Pinot Noir. World class wine.

Medium garnet. Intense aroms of Mount Eden pinot berry (I don’t know any other way to describe it), earth, lilacs and roses, smoke. Bright crisp fruit on the palate, sweet notes of vanilla as in the sap of pondera pine, light body with fritzy acids, hovering aromatic back notes. 13.5% alcohol. Wonderful and lovely and so Mount Eden.

Opened for c 2 hours. An intense Pinot with big nose, powerful initial impact and long finish I would have thought it has some years left in it. Unlike other tasting notes, I did not find it to be Burgundian in style at least not at this point in its drinking cycle. Still very full bodied on Day 2

One of the best American pinots I've ever enjoyed. Drank the wine over three hours. It's at its peak and slowly faded after the second hour. Fully resolved with fading bright red cherry fruit. If you blindfolded me, I would guess a young Griotte Chambertin from Fourrier. Regardless, a beautiful wine that's fully ready. Delicious!!!
Drink up because I don't see this wine improving with additional cellaring. She's 100% ready.

No tiredness on the nose or palate. Great now and over the next 4-5+ years. Wish I had more, this one is electric on the tongue. Singing. Outstanding.

Nose of sweet and sour dried red berries with the richness of maple sap and a fragrant top note of roses and lilacs. The sweet and sour character continues onto the palate with a sparkling acid underpinning, a core of vibrant fruit, and a lovely return of the aromatics at the lilting acid finish. A classic Mount Eden pinot that takes me back to the 1969 we had at JAMS in NYC in the early 80s.

Fine aromas of white pepper, dry undergrowth, and an emerging aromatic cranberry fruit with a promise of sad wisdom. Dense sweet salty fruit on the palate, silky smooth with a sparkling acid lacing and a rich savory reduction at the back moving into a ringing finish. Reminds me of the 1978 (?) we had in JAMS in New York in the mid 80s, when I first fell in love with Mount Eden. Perfect with pan-fried thick pork chop in an onion sage apple coulis and buttery broccoli.

A slight browning but, other than that, this doesn't drink at all like a nearly ten year old wine. Pure, bright cherry, with notes of raspberry and cranberry and supported by a wide array of spice, bramble, general earthiness and a green sort of eucalyptus tone to the finish. Bright acidity makes this such a lively wine. Fine, totally integrated, tannins. Not many tertiary notes to speak of, which is a bit of a surprise, but I think this has a lot of years left in it. Great example of a fruit forward, new world Pinot, that isn't blown out and maintains exceptional balance.

Opened by Bill. Ruby color. A pretty nose with meaty aromas. An earthy wine with cherry, spice and dark fruit notes. No rush to drink this. The only other Pinot I've had from this estate was the 1997 and I liked this bottle slightly better. 91-92 points.

Courtesy of billhike. Always a treat to drink these pinots (and chardonnays, for that matter). Deep youthful ruby red color. Notes of black cherry, cinnamon, clove, florals and currants. Cherry dominates the palate, with spice elements as well. Impeccably balanced. Long finish. Continues to open as the night goes on, becoming more expressive and forward. Still quite young, this has a long life ahead and I would continue to hold for a couple of years.

Decanted for 2 hours. Medium light, read-through color with a thin, clear rim. Initial notes of cinnamon and other sweet, baking spices then turn to aromas of fresh blackberries and red cherries. On entry it shows pretty, high-toned and fresh flavors of red and black fruit. Delicious primary flavors and nicely framed by juicy, young acidity and gentle tannins. This vintage seems a bit lighter and red fruited than others. It should develop nicely in the medium term. 92 pts. 2021-2029

Tasted like the fruit was picked too early. I would have thought with the age on this bottle that it would have integrated into a much better wine. On the other hand, I think it is a well made, but it just isn't suited to my taste.

Withholding any sort of score or detailed note since this came out late... and outside of a quick sip, was served in a Red Solo Cup. Given all that, it was still a very strong showing; ripe, fruit forward, but with an air of complexity that, well... you don't normally see in a keg cup. Really curious to try this in a better setting, or at least out of say, a juice glass, because it was very good under crappy circumstances.

PnP. Dark red, with some funk on opening, which quickly blew off. Mouthfeel was medium weight, with minor tannins. Tasted of dark cherries. Fruit is still strong, and a bit one note. Wine should age for many more years, but not much complexity at this point. I will cellar my last bottle for a few more years to see if it further develops.

Opened and drank over the course of 3 hours. From the initial pour, this wine gives off a beautifully perfumed nose of black cherry, baking spices, sandalwood and herbs that lead way to an elegant well balanced and wonderfully pure layered cherry essence with an earthy mineral driven spiciness that carries good acidity and linger on the long finish. A very enjoyable Californian Pinot Noir.

Really quite nice for Cali pinot. The nose is filled with black cherry, raspberry, cranberry, fresh flowers, cardamom, clove, and a hint of a mineral note. The palate is rich with red berries, yet fresh, elegant, and delicious. Definitely one of the better made California pinots out there. This will improve with age for sure, but is also drinking well young.

Ruby. Heath, loam, violets, blackcurrants on the nose. Intense jammy strawberry on the palate, floating acids, long finish. The palate doesn't quite live up to the promise of the nose. 55+13+15+8.
The nose is absolutely beautiful, with an array of dried red fruits, baking spices and herbs; The palate is light and elegant, although fleshes out with some air, to reveal layers of cherries, earth and flowers with excellent lift; I would recommend cellaring for several more years for everything to integrate; 93 now, with the potential for an additional 2-3 pts with an additional 5 years in bottle

A Casual Tuesday at Crush with some guys from Toronto (Toronto, ON): Disclaimer: I am very predisposed to this stemmy style of pinot. Showing just as well as before. Fresh strawberry, raspberry, cherries in syrup, ever so slight cherry liquor, spicebox, incense, ash, smoke, grapefruit and brine. The 50% whole cluster really shows! Palate is silk with great fresh acid and red fruit on a long tart finish. The only detractor for me is the fruit is just so lush, though I bet this will settle down with age. Hoping to hold these for a while. Love this wine!

California Pinot (Gary's Place, Hudson, WI): Dark red with a pretty ruby hue. Splash decanted. Drank 1 glass over 2 hours. Very similar to the 2010 Domaine Eden in reality. Fresh nose with a bright floral perfume, dry earth, nuanced, mineral, strawberry, cherry. The palate has mouth watering acidity, bright red fruits, cherry, strawberry, slightly sweet essence, spices, subtle earth, and supple tannins that lead into a long finish. 92+ to 93pts. This was my WOTN for the Cali group.

Such a pure nose....incense, stems, cherry, nutmeg, tart raspberry, violets, minerals, asian spice The palate has great texture and such pure fruit...sweet cherry, raspberry, cranberry, and strawberry with violets, incense, spice, and mineral notes. The finish is long, lush and expansive. Great wine...love these high altitude pinots from Cali, they do it right.

Hard to judge, as this came at the end of the evening after 2010 Martinelli Moonshine and Williams Selyem Flax. Definitely a step below, but who could tell at that hour?
4th Saturday Group brown bagger (M/M thelostverse): Deep ruby color with notes of chery, raspberry, clove and nutmeg. With additional air, forest floor and subtle earthy elements emerge. In a word, elegant. Medium tannins with a flavors of cherry and spice. Plenty of fruit with nice balance- plenty of structure and acid. Obviously Pinot, but I thought RRV. 93+ pts.
One of our hosts' contributions, decanted for 5 hours.

4th Saturday Group. Tasted blind. One of my contributions. This was opened and decanted about 5 hours prior to tasting. I knew it wasn't ready, but I really wanted to try one. Red and black fruits with earth and forest floor. The cherry really came out by the end of the evening (10 hours after opening). I would be content just sniffing this in the glass for hours. I will try to hold to my drinking window and wait until 2020 to open another. I will also add to my stash, as this will last years beyond that.

5 Blind Pinots on a Thursday Night (Dave's House): (Blind Pinot #3) On first pour this wine had some dissolved Co2 which had us concerned it was flawed. After a few minutes in the glass however all of the Co2 dissipated and a stunning nose began to show itself. There is obvious stem inclusion in this wine, but it is very tastefully executed and suits the wine well. Nose features ash, loads of spice, plenty of red fruit; red currants, cherries, strawberries, pomegranate. It is so complex and has so much going on it almost overwhelms the senses. Palate is similar to wine #1 in the silk and length of finish, however I believe we all agreed this was clearly the wine of the flight with only #1 in the same ballpark as this. 94 Points and that is conservative.
Nice cool nose. Tobacco leaf with strong ash on the nose, with cranberry and fleeting stem notes suggesting green things. The ash component is strong on the palate too, but it intermingles with the cherry and cranberry and anchors itself into a rather prominent savory tone in just the right way, almost like a spice accent. In fact, I wouldn't call this a fruit driven wine at all, it is savory and stems in the best possible way with a very serious silken texture and outstanding balance. This would be a great food wine right now, and clearly has the pedigree to go the distance where I can't help but think those stemmy notes will add fascinating dimension. 93-95.
Day two- Floral, cranberry, and stems on the nose, not remotely any heat. The ash has receded significantly and the wine is far less sharp, very mellow. The balance is retained even if it has lost a bit of verve (not necessarily a bad thing). Forget silky texture, this has just gone to butter, seriously impressive. It is still a savory driven wine that is practically indescribable, while the red cherry and cranberry that is present is still pure and delicious even though completely secondary. Forget Cali, forget Burgundy, this is Mt. Eden and it is positively gorgeous.
Medium dark red color; very appealing, floral, rosehips, sous bois nose; appealing, floral, rosehips, stemmy, mineral palate; needs 5-plus years to integrate; medium-plus finish 91+ points (about 1/3 whole cluster)

A very good Pinot; more lean and european in style than what you would expect. A nice light and elegant Pinot berry bush fruit with some earthy dryness and minerality. Not overly complex but I think this would benefit from some age.

PnP, medium crimson red color. Nose fairly tight but hint of sweet fruit. Then later evolving into a predominately whole cluster aroma. Out of the gate, the palate staining intense mouthfeel reminded me of 60s TV commercial slogan for a Certs..."a sparkling drop of retsyn". Not because its minty but because of the energy it delivers. This wine is so intense and sappy to at once be very impressive and at the sametime almost overbearing. Certainly, I'm catching this pretty young. Its enjoyable but in strong need of time in the btl to unwind. Right now sweet cherry, mineral and hint of cola flavors. IF, I buy more of these it will be with the solemn promise to myself to age them out for at least 3yrs before I touch btl #2. This does seems to have a lot of upside but is uniquely different in it's overt personality from vintages 08 and 09 that recently preceed it.

Cherry dominates the palate, with spice elements as well. Impeccably balanced. Long finish. Continues to open as the night goes on, becoming more expressive and forward. Still quite young, this has a long life ahead and I would continue to hold for a couple of years.

Wonderful California Pinot. Perhaps should go up a point. Wonderful everyting. A serious wine, not a kick back pinot. I paid $50 for the bottle and it is money well spent.

A bit of alcohol and fruit. Pretty tart fruit but kind of a clipped finish with a burn. Not sure if this will balance out.....

See previous note. Much the same as my (rather foggy) impression from two years back – nice flavours, but lacks tension and grip. Consume sooner rather than later.

This wine has a sense of wood in the flavor and a more refined weight to it. Might need a few more years maybe? The fruit was enjoyable and more Medium to light bodied

The palate has great texture and such pure fruit...sweet cherry, raspberry, cranberry, and strawberry with violets, incense, spice, and mineral notes.
The finish is long, lush and expansive.
Great wine...love these high altitude pinots from Cali, they do it right.

In a word, elegant. Medium tannins with a flavors of cherry and spice. Plenty of fruit with nice balance- plenty of structure and acid. Obviously Pinot, but I thought RRV. 93+ pts.
