The nose is captivating. It is soft in the mouth while it still has structure to last. Plums, herbs, licorice, with good acidity and a nice, long finish.

Blind sample, felt like it might have been a little bit off to me so no score. We are suspect of the kids of some of the 4oz glass jars.. I digress
Pretty dark color in the glass, purple rim. Aromatic pen ink notes, black currant, herbal streak, maybe some green pepper. Chewy tannins still preside and there is a little sweetness to the finish. It did remind me of the Beta wines a good deal after the reveal (but I thought younger Haut Medoc like 2015 Sociando in this case).

Lovely Napa cab in a restrained almost elegant style. No unripeness though. Concetrated balck currants intervoven with hints of cedar spice and green (but not peppery) leafy herbs in a seamless nateral expression that is reminiscent of Lafitte. Subtle complexity really builds on the finish. Really impressive wine in early maturity. Wish I had loaded up on this producer before the current price level.

Thanksgiving Wimps 2022 - James Baldwin Table (La Trompette): I really enjoyed this. My tablemates commented on the fact that I didn't need to keep telling them this fact. Well what can i say - i really enjoyed this. 13.5% abv. On the nose - a bit of pencil lead, but also some vibrant fruits. On the palate - silky tannins, and a voluptuous mouthfeel, but super balanced - fruit / oak / alcohol all in balance. This sat alongside pretty distinguished company and showed well - i'll seek it out again.

Quite savoury and stern at the outset, developing nicely over the course of the evening to become more rounded and balanced. As always from Corison, an excellent bottle of cabernet - balanced, concentrated, fresh, powerful. I think this will be better in a few years.

Purchased upon release and cellared under ideal conditions, this opaque ruby wine was decanted off of its substantial sediment and serially tasted over the ensuing 2-3 hours. Highly aromatic, it has taken on additional floral scents of violets and lavender, highlighting a rich core of dark plum and bramble fruit. Full-bodied, freshly acidic and with nicely integrated alcohol (listed as 13.6%), it delivers flavors in line with the aromas, adding notes of cocoa, allspice and tarragon. At this stage, the medium-weight tannins are plush and the oak has fully assimilated. Dense on the mid-palate and lengthy on the back end, this is an elegant Cabernet that is evolving beautifully. Well-cellared bottles should provide pleasure throughout the decade. If you choose to pop the cork, give it at least an hour in decanter. Drink now-2030.

2 hr decant then back into bottle for serving. Served with slow cooked beef stew. Outstanding. Floral notes on the bouquet with red fruit on the palate. Medium long finish. Glad I waited on these. Definitely do not think too young as some others have suggested but would say this is just entering into the start of its drinking window and if you like more age on your wine then I would hold 2-3 more years.

Yes, it's a big wine given its youth and climate, but this is a fantastic rendition of cabernet. The nose shows sweet red and black berries and a pronounced whiff of dustiness. The palate has brilliant acidity to cut the generous fruit. Surprisingly supple tannins for a wine so young, but there is so much material here this will comfortably age for a long time yet. Why bother spending more on culty Napa, when you can get real wine for so much less?

Wauw. So much power, but elegant without compromising on the tannins. True Cabernet in it is purest form. Peber, cassis, black currant and mineral / clay'ish spices. It will drink fine the next coming 5-10 years, for sure. Decanted and served approx. After 2h. Potential +94, this wine hasn't peaked yet.

The best showing/tasting since my initial tasting of this vintage in 2015. Opened up nicely after 1.5-2 hours of decanting. Layers of notes on both palate and nose. Red fruit, clay, graphite, and Indian spices with clove dominate, all with a delightful and energetic minerality streak.

Corison after Ribcap into dark chocolate...good all around.
This was fast tracked in my tertiary storage. Meaning, it is more advanced than if I had stored it my EuroCave’s.
It is well resolved. Yet, still has plenty of life.
Beautiful, bright, lush, ripe fruits of; blackberries, black raspberries; black cherries, strawberries, plum, raspberries with cherries over the top. Soft limestone minerals, tarry notes, expresso roast, underbrush, soft leather, cedar to wood shavings, moist clay, understated baking spices; clove, nutmeg, cinnamon & vanillin, dark spice with well pronounced heat, mocha, caramel, hints of tree sap/bark, sage, Provenance herbs, brilliant florals of; purple, violets & soft lavender. The acidity is near perfect. The finish is elegant with perfect polish and persists softly.

Day one: Thin and a bit dilute dilute. What's going on? A bad bottle, or is my palate getting jaded?
Day two: Cathy, how can I have doubted you. This is a symphony in a glass from the maestro of cabernet. Gorgeous concentration while remaining fresh and cool - this house's trademark. A masterpiece. Delicious now but many, many years ahead.

A Napa-ish BDX stalwart? A BDX-ish Napa beauty? Take your pick. Definitely the best of both worlds. Crushed white flowers, iron, charcoal, woody notes, nice faint mineral note, tart cherries, touch of blackberry. Tannins and oak integrated, but plenty of acid left for this to further develop 10+ years. I think it’s best life is many years ahead. 92 for now 94-95 with 7-10 years in the cellar.

Dark purple or garnet in color. Dark fruit, gravel, vanilla and some wood on the nose. After it had opened, some floral notes appeared. Palette: medium body; dark fruit; molasses; white pepper; nice tannins throughout. Long, somewhat sour finish. Still very bright but drinking well.

Very much a poised and restrained style. Improved since my previous tastings over the last few years, but it's certainly slow to show much of what it has to offer. No rush, be it decanting or further cellaring.

Wow, this has integrated just beautifully with gorgeous flavors of cassis and licorice and perfect balancing acidity. Such a delicious taste of real Napa/Rutherford terroir comes through here. The wine is medium-bodied for Napa but no light-weight with wonderfully fresh notes of eucalyptus, pine and crunchy violets. The finish is intense but measured with a beautiful mineral and black currant-infused complexity. To think this wine still sells on release under $100 when it blows away most $500+ Napa wines remains a mystery to me.

Tasted at The Wine Society's USA tasting, London, UK. A privelege to taste this 10 year old cabernet, it's great that The Wine Society included this in their line up. Dark plum colour. Classy, veggie nose, cassis, blackcurrant fruit. Ripe palate, smooth, rich. This still feels young, but drinking perfectly and I wouldn't want to risk keeping it too long. Excellent.

Deep ruby red. Reserved nose with blackfruits, cherries, currants, gravel, tobacco leaves and some light spices. Medium tannins (6.5/10) and medium plus bodied. A bit of acidity on the palate with notes of forest floor, restrained black fruits, smoked meats and dark gravel. Long finish. Drink till 2022.

Now this is what I’m talking about! Wonderful! Dark purple color. 1+ hour decant and could use even more. Drinking beautifully but still has years left in it! Massive cigar box on the nose. Wine is very Bordeaux like as it is deep, well structured, and has an excellent balance of fruit and smoke. If you drink it fast it tastes like the best bbq in the world! Long finish. Absolutely love this and it will only get better!!

On the nose, blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries and baked strawberries on the glass edges. Smokiness, savory meats, limestone minerals, crushed dry rocks, hints of white & black pepper, dark spices, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, vanilla, black licorice, bay leaf, used leather, dry tobacco, some graphite, dark rich soils, steeped fruit tea, alcohol vapors, dry stems, dry top soil with blue flowers, violets and lavender.
The body is medium just edging full. Tannins are; round, dusty, tarry and 50% resolved. The length & balance are good but, the tension, structure and body are leaner compared to stronger Napa vintages. This is a somewhat consistent theme I’ve experienced in 2010 Napa Cabernets. The initial mouth entry is good but goes hollow in the mid palate but, comes back on the long set. Ripe & juicy blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries and baked strawberries on the glass edges. Smokiness, savory meats, limestone minerals, crushed dry rocks, hints of white & black pepper, dark spices, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, vanilla, caramel, mocha powder, black licorice, bay leaf, used leather, dry tobacco, some graphite, dark rich soils, steeped fruit tea, touch of hot alcohol on the palate, dry stems, dry top soil with blue & dark red flowers, violets with lavender. The acidity is quite nice. The long, ripe, juicy, elegant, well balanced finish lasts minutes due to the dark spice as it rests on the palate and brings a little heat.
Cathy was one of first female Winemakers in the Napa Valley. I was told once she was the first. However, having asked her, she said, “no.” She certainly was either the second or the third though.
Lots of young and energetic fruit. Not at its peak yet. Notes of juicy apricot, red berries, crushed stone, and some dark fruit on the palate. Good elegance.

Showing great promise (consumed 2oz pour from coravin). Initially showing lots of graphite, tobacco herbs on the nose, tight cherry fruit palate with an astringent finish. This softened with time.
Edit - consumed rest of bottle over 2 nights. I think the argon from the coravin did impact the flavor of this wine, drying it slightly. Also, the dusty/smokey/tobacco notes on first glass poured from Coravin were subdued. That said, still a lovely wine, depth of aromatics and fruit but not at all fat. A big but lean wine?

Cathy makes excellent wine. This is a not slap you in the face fruity style wine. It has everything in great balance. Fruit, tannin and acid. Just a very elegant Cabernet in a style you don't find in Napa much.
Sublime. I let this one decant for 2 hours. Deep red color. Feminine yet powerful. Nice layers of deep fruit with smooth as silk tannins. Complexity. Perfectly balanced. Loved this bottle of wine. Paired perfectly with grilled ribeye. Glad I have more. Beautiful old school Napa.

The belle of the ball, served with the main course of a filet mignon with bordelaise sauce. Typical of Cathy's femine cabs, you could smell the perfume all around the glass when poured. Dark blue fruits, with spice, and long finish. This is drinking fantastic now, but should go on for many years. Great cab!

Improving relative to a year ago but is still years ahead of hitting the peak. After several hours of decanting, terrific balance on the palate without any excesses. Could be misleadingly taken for not offering much; restrained style, consistent with prior vintages. I feel like I could use few more cases of this and it won't be enough.

Beautiful cab. Moderate alcohol, fine grained tannins, and an incredible nose. Red cherries, plums, cassis, some herbal notes, a touch of violets, and some leather. Great acidity. Lovely mouthfeel. This wine should be simply superb in 5-8 more years. If only more Napa cabs were like this...

A thoughtful wine that requires an effort to fully appreciate it at this young age. Timid upon opening with subtle notes of dark cherries and thyme. Had sediment. With air, fruit became darker on the palate with new leather (without any barnyard notes). As expected, very tannic (but approachable). Good/sufficient acidity. Nose kept getting more delightful and complex. After 4+ hours of decanting, more thyme notes on the palate, with dark red berries, raisins, and clean new leather notes. Very deep and perfumed nose. Long finish. In terms of complexity and structure, this is closer to a good Rioja or Brunello than to a typical Napa cab. Likely to become a 95+ point wine after many years of cellaring. The only question is when exactly.

Very nice sweetish dark fruits on the palate with some hints of spice. The palate was very balanced with a nice measure of fruits, spice and earthiness. The wine was pretty focused and lean. One whiff and one knows we're in new world territory. Admitedly this wasn't as jammy and big as many Napas. Somewhere in between a Dominus and a Schafer. Definitely powerful but still has a reasonable balance.

It's a grippy, powerful drink now. Rock, bright blackberry, savory sage. A bit brooding really, but in spite of the intensity it's almost playful and graceful in it's power. Surprising of the several vintages of Corison I've had, this was the most powerful (though haven't had the cool 2011 either). The tannins show a slight dustiness but they aren't so severe. It's the good kind of structured that is so refreshing. If I had a case my vices would surely get the better of me and knock off a couple of these in the short term. I think these cooler vintages play right in to Cathy Corison's hands. Really nice and pure. 92+

Cathy Corison's wines at Arlequin (Arlequin SF): dark ruby, concentrated color. Nose of slightly overripe red cherry liqueur and a bit of blackcurrant character. Secondaries of faint animal spice (brettanomyces), deep glossy liquorice / anise, and cedar tones. In the mouth, classic Corison: Medium body, medium alcohol [13.6%], excellent midpalate aromatics with a hint of Brett and well-contained tones of fresh wood (smells like smooth, fine-grained freshly-sanded wood to me) [French oak, 50% new]. Elevated acid and plush moderate-intensity tannins. Long finish Score: Around 9. $85

Coravin taste. My first Corison. On the nose, this has nice red and black fruits, forest floor, and menthol. Lovely nose. On the palate, nice red fruit (but restrained), medium weight, lovely acidity, very nice balance, no heat at all. Tannins are there and a touch grippy, but this was much more approachable than I expected based on the CT drinking window (2024-2060). Very well made and an elegant, feminine style of Cab that I really like a lot. Clearly, I need to be acquiring more from this producer. This should be friendly with a variety of foods. I'm sure it will get better with time.

A pronounced perfume of black cherries, kirsch, and ripe fruit. I can describe in a way that does it justice - it smells like great Cabernet. Cola, herb, mint thing (from half bottle, just off the cork pull). Pure and lean mid-palate, great elegance, finesse and balance. Singing acidity on the back of the palate. One for the long haul.

This is an impressively focused and complex cabernet with major length and promise. Blind, this could easily pass for $100 plus top BDX from Pessac, Margaux or Paulliac. Color is ruby not, inky black. Aromas, of smoke, fresh dark fruit and tobacco. I decanted for about 30 minutes and then poured back into the original btl to introduce more air. Lots more potential but this is already a step up from many CA Cabs. Paid $70 and worth it. Easy to enjoy now but I'm sure this will be even more impressive at age 10 plus. 13.6% ALC. I'd get rid of the super ugly 80s style label though.

From a magnum purchased upon release at the winery, this opaque crimson wine delivers bramble fruit, mineral, espresso and dried herb aromas and flavors. With fresh acidity, big sweet tannins and seamless alcohol (13.6%), it is a wine with impressive structure. Showing excellent purity of fruit which persists nicely throughout the middle, it concludes with a lengthy finish. 13.6% less oak vs the Fiftyrow Morisoli. less sweet fruit too. more mineral and pepper on the nose. 'how do we balance the ripeness that we get.' Decanted and poured. Very tight cork with a distinctive "pop" upon pulling the cork and then the aroma of Cabernet filled the kitchen. Beautiful red color with slight purple on the edges. Tight - very tight - upon opening - it took over 2 hours to open and show itself. Dark red fruit flavors, luscious mouthfeel, definite drying on the sides of the tongue from the tannins, but no harshness whatsoever, and a finish that goes on forever. This is my first exposure to this winery (thanks to Twitter!) - I bought 3 bottles and gave one away as a gift (good for them, bad for me :) ). I will hold the other bottle for a few years, but I will definitely be a customer in the future.

Excellent.

Improving relative to a year ago but is still years ahead of hitting the peak. After several hours of decanting, terrific balance on the palate without any excesses. Could be misleadingly taken for not offering much; restrained style, consistent with prior vintages. I feel like I could use few more cases of this and it won't be enough.

In the mouth, classic Corison:
Medium body, medium alcohol [13.6%], excellent midpalate aromatics with a hint of Brett and well-contained tones of fresh wood (smells like smooth, fine-grained freshly-sanded wood to me) [French oak, 50% new]. Elevated acid and plush moderate-intensity tannins. Long finish
Score: Around 9.

Decanted and poured.
